Ally McBeal was one of those rare shows that defined an era, and it's a shame it isn't given more recognition. How I miss it! Ally and Larry were one of television's legendary "couples." Thank you, Calista and Robert and David Kelly for giving us those memories.
Big respect to David E. Kelly who created Ally and the characters, and who wrote the script. Without him there would be no Ally McBeal. The man deserves a lot of credit.
I would love to see an Ally McBeal Reunion movie where Ally and Larry find each other again. They made the sweetest couple and it would have been great to see what would have happened . It was sad enough that Gil Bellows left the show for a higher paying gig and a starring role in the short lived TV series The Agency. They killed off his character because he didn't think he needed to return to Ally McBeal for any reason. But her love affair with Larry was far more fascinating to watch.
god the way they wrote him out of the finale was absolutely shit! they should have had them marry and be done with it - the show bombed without him, as it was beginning to do before he saved it anyway.

He was written to come back after he left and then marry Ally, but since Robert Downey Jr got arrested they had to write him out that way and make up a daughter for Ally and whatever. The finale was going to be him and Ally getting married. I found this info in an interview online yrs ago.

I was so disappointed when they had to write Robert Downey Jr. off of the show. This was one of my favorite tv relationships and it really took away from the show. He's a great actor.

Robert has said that it was his lowest point of his addiction when he was filming season 4 of Ally. At this point, apparently he didn't care if he ever acted again. I thought he really brought new life to this show, it's a pity the re-writes at the end of the season are so obvious. I think it's hats off to him that at least his drug dependency didn't seem to affect his performance.
Him leaving the show really pissed me off. It totally destroyed Ally and was so unfair to followers of the show. He was really great on this show and I wish the series had ended with him coming back and them getting married.

Well, the reason for the abrupt end of the Ally and Larry relationship was due to RDJ getting in trouble for drugs and FOX firing him from the show. David E. Kelly said that the original season finale was suppose to be the wedding of Ally and Larry. No lie. It was NOT intended for him to leave. SO they had to do some VERY quick work in the last two episodes of the season. Sad, because I LOVE this show and Larry and Ally were and are IT together. **sighs**

Loved Ally and Larry, they started off so well, so much chemistry and love but the way they ended was completely and utterly ridiculous. It was so rushed and abrupt and badly written, there are rumours that they had to let him Downey go hence the sudden quick exit but in my opinion they completely ruined their love, can;t remember them fondly now.
I don't know how much is fiction and how is truth but there are rumours he had drug problems and other problems so the writers let him go, hence his sudden exit. He leaves the show rather abruptly, comes back from detriot, they are fine for a bit, he tries to propose but the waiter messes it up and he thinks it might be an omen, meanwhile Ally is thinking thoughts like he will nevere marry her etc. She catches him with his ex-wife (innocent) and then ....well he leaves a note.

So it is wrong. I Have the 5 seasons. She didn't know that she had a little girl (it's a long story) and she had never met the father ! About Larry, he left at the end of the 4° season because the actor, RDJ had drug problems and he had to go in jail. If he wouldn't have had those problems, they would get married at the end of the 4° season. (Sorry I'm French and my english is not perfect)
the last ever episode had her moving to new york with her daughter. she wasn't married or anything. at the end of the fourth season larry was gonna propose but didn't and he left.
then there was season 5. which was the last season.
ally was destined to be alone forever, that is the truth.........because love is wasted on her, she was insatiable, she was a perfectionist to the point of stupidity-larry was her perfect match,but he was a" one in a million guy",sad thing ...but love them both together
I believe series 5 was the last series. Ally ended up living wih her daughter who came to find her. Turns out Ally had frozen her eggs. Ally had a romance with bon jovi who was her builder at her new house, but the series ended her being single. Larry left to be with his son in series 4 and we never really saw or heard of him again. He left a really cute snowman for her though! Thats how i remember it, hope thats right?!

I absolutely love Robert Downey Jr! I am so glad he has gotten his life back on track. Is it just me or can you tell he was on drugs in these clips. His eyes look different and his coloring is off a little bit. Poor thing, I am so happy he is better!

Larry was going to propose to Ally, and have the waiter put it in her desert. The waiter put it in the wrong one.
Larry thought it was a bad sign.
He then met up with his ex wife who he was still friends with, and went for ice-cream, just to talk it through, all innocent stuff... and to do so had to cancel lunch with Ally.
Ally saw them together, and dumped icecream on his head.
Larry chickens out of calling her, and shortly after Ally gets a note that says 'I love you. Goodbye'.
Actually Junior got arrested on coke charges so the writers axed him despite him already signing on for 8 for episodes. So maybe they were going to get married and that was just supposed to be a hiccup. I wish they'd kept Larry in the show, I don't care if he was coked off his box.

So it is wrong. I Have the 5 seasons. She didn't know that she had a little girl (it's a long story) and she had never met the father ! About Larry, he left at the end of the 4° season because the actor, RDJ had drug problems and he had to go in jail. If he wouldn't have had those problems, they would get married at the end of the 4° season. (Sorry I'm French and my english is not perfect)

the last ever episode had her moving to new york with her daughter. she wasn't married or anything. at the end of the fourth season larry was gonna propose but didn't and he left.
then there was season 5. which was the last season.

I believe series 5 was the last series. Ally ended up living wih her daughter who came to find her. Turns out Ally had frozen her eggs. Ally had a romance with bon jovi who was her builder at her new house, but the series ended her being single. Larry left to be with his son in series 4 and we never really saw or heard of him again. He left a really cute snowman for her though! Thats how i remember it, hope thats right?!

I absolutely love Robert Downey Jr! I am so glad he has gotten his life back on track. Is it just me or can you tell he was on drugs in these clips. His eyes look different and his coloring is off a little bit. Poor thing, I am so happy he is better!

Es war LEIDER von vornerein klar das Larry und ally nicht zusammenbleiben würden da Larry gegenüber Ally immer sehr distanziert war und Ally immer an der Liebe gezweifelt hat auch wenn Sie immer versuchte daran zu glauben! Schade das es so ausgehen musste!!

Larry was going to propose to Ally, and have the waiter put it in her desert. The waiter put it in the wrong one.
Larry thought it was a bad sign.
He then met up with his ex wife who he was still friends with, and went for ice-cream, just to talk it through, all innocent stuff... and to do so had to cancel lunch with Ally.
Ally saw them together, and dumped icecream on his head.
Larry chickens out of calling her, and shortly after Ally gets a note that says 'I love you. Goodbye'.

Actually Junior got arrested on coke charges so the writers axed him despite him already signing on for 8 for episodes. So maybe they were going to get married and that was just supposed to be a hiccup. I wish they'd kept Larry in the show, I don't care if he was coked off his box.
