  • απίθανο.... πραγματικά θαύμα. Σ'ευχαριστούμε!

  • Exquisite 5*****

  • I do not think it is about those that died fighting on the front, or "first", line!

The eternal memory mentioned in the prayer refers to remembrance by God, rather than the living. It is another way of praying that the soul has entered heaven eternal. It is Christian.

  • My Brother it is dedicated and written for the eternal memory of men who have heroically fallen fighting in the first line. I guess you don't understand Greek, reason for your misunderstanding. God Bless!

  • 0:16 andron (men) irown (heroes) promaxwn (promachos in Greek is that who fights in the first line--the patron goddess of ancient Athens was Athina Promachos whose huge statue sat inside the Parthenon)

  • 1:39 "pesonton iroikon"--"heroically fallen"

  • Beautiful. Even more moving than the Russian version.

Could someone tell me what the words are before eonia i mnimi? Never heard that before.

  • Eternal memory as the title says, but means more like "to be remembered (mnemonized) eternaly"

  • May your memory be eternal

    Eternal be your memory

    Something along those lines.

  • I have been listening to Christian Chants for a year or two now. I keep coming back to this one. I guess it is my favorite. The combination of music and art make for great worship unto God.

  • mporeis na baleis ta logia tou umnou se parakalo?

  • I am aware of the various scales in Western music, such as Dorian, Mixolydian, etc. and the various tonalities and sonorities they create.

But I wish I knew what is meant by a Plagal First Tone. It invokes mystery and exaltation as well as austerity.

Can anybody help me with this?

The music is totally intense in its' austere beauty. And the singers are awesome.

  • Try Googling "Reading Psalmodia" by David Melling. He explains the notation and the theory of Byzantine music.

  • The orthodox music uses 8 tones that can be compared with 8 sorts of melodies. By the way, Gregorian chant also uses 8 tones because it is the western adaptation of byzantine singing.

  • praying mantis it gave you goosebumps because it is holy - root meaning - ' other '
