The CPU history window you have up ... mine displays 16 boxes ... i guess one for each virtual core but only 8 are actually working, on the activity monitor it says im using 1 percent of the computer but 48% is idle so i think 1 of my processing chips has broken and im only getting 4 worth of power ... do you think it should go to the apple store?

one thing your all forgetting about the i7s...overclocking. Makes them just as powerful as an octocore, if not more so. Great job paying that much money just to lose all that power.
Best purchase ever...in 2008. I get paid a lot for the work I do so cost isn't my worry. But the amount of tasks, projects, rendered frames I've gone through isn't comparable than using my old windows P4 1.8Ghz machine, nor I should wait for 2010+ intel's technology to come out. In fact, I'd custom built two i7 Bloomfield machines as a clustered render server. You don't want to see my energy bills when these clusters running 24/7... :D
@jeznaver Well cpu dosen't eat as much energy ans an GPU do.
Well i've a c2d E8400 and it take, 30 watts ? My gpu is made to take 150 watts max, but it should not get to that point ( I can't know how many energy it's using )
Its not about how complicated the scene is, its about having one scene that everyone can base the speed of their Processors on. if you make it too complicated, then people with older cpus will be waiting for hours.
My point is... If you have a bad-ass system, and you're putting a demo of it on YouTube... Then show us a more graphic-intensive scene demonstrating it.
yah, I get that. I think its about time for cinebench 11 with a much higher resource intensive scene. Even with Cinebench 10, my i7 does it in 36 seconds, lol. not much of a render....
you guys can say this all you want. my pc is custom built. quad gpu's 4.2ghz core i7's 12gb of memory. it has more software supprt. and windows 7 beats leapard
my pc would destroy your mac. its a known fact. macs cant keep up with windows. my pc is liquid cooled. its got graphics cards that max users cant even dream of. more support. more availible hardware. more programs. then any mac will have. and its cheaper. so ill rape the mac
And who gives a fuck..I know I dont care at all..Maybe that comment just makes you feel better about yourself which is great..im glad I could help you lmao
@captainclayman Its better than Vista on some machines I'll give you that, but if you really do use OS X you would know 7 is nowhere near as good or stable as OS X.
would the newer mac pro's multithreading make all the procs peak at 100%... here you seem to peak at 50% until it starts with the oversampling at the end...
OK... let's do some 24 hour renders and watch that thing fry it's little over-clocked CPU to a crisp he he... I guarantee that once that cooling system gets one little hiccup it's toast... my Mac Pros can stay way cooler than your PC under high stresses. My cooling is engineered to do that by Apple engineers building the system as a whole integrated unit to work under high loads like that. Your OC PC will burn up!
lol. im using a custom water cooling loop. much more effiectient then your pussy mac cooling.i idle at 40c. and laod at 65c. your lil mac is weak as fuck
Macs are always overpriced and technological behind Windows PC computer.
PC has GTX 295 & ATI 4870 x2 for gaming. apple has 8800 GT
PC has intel i7 965 $1k CPU(8 cores with hyperthreading); apple uses server cpus. 2 xeon so they can have 8 cores...horribly expensive. $2100+ for 2 xeon 3.2ghz.
DDR2 is old, especially DDR2 800. $50 for 4gb. apple charges $500
1tb HD costs $87, apple charge $300
I don't blame apple charges for premium dollars, there are a lot of unread and uninformed people.
I've also got the Mac Pro 2,8 (8 cores) with 8800GT. I made a video running some benchmark applications (geekbench and cinebench) and i think i got some nice results.
I have 2 Quad Core 3.2 Xeon Processors and used Cinebench 10 and got with 1 core 4mins, and with all 8 cores 40secs. Idk why that it but I guess that's right or something is wrong. lol
I have a baseline Mac Pro (Single-quadcored Xeon 2.8ghz) and it gets 11k in Cinebench 10. It renders the image in 30-35 sec with all four cores. I thought I was blown away, but I guess I had a bit farther to go. :D
the screen capture program iShowU was doing its job capturing and encoding in the background, thus it added approx 3 seconds to the render time. It would be fair to use an external camcorder to capture the event instead.
Vista's not fail at all. It's a bandwagon is all. Vista's only slight flaw is the amount of memory used - which if you have the proper amount to begin with it shouldn't be a problem. And I agree - skulltrail is nice.
Actually, it takes around as much as xp, the reason it takes so much is superfetch(look it up), which actually puts good use to your wasted unused ram. It will free up if you actually need the ram it uses. The reason vista came off bad was because as soon as it released, drivers that were created for it were rushed, thus making them unstable and making vista crash. Same story with xp x64.
they basically just shined up the interface and gave it this "aero" look. I personally think that its just more annoying and makes you more confused about your OS. If you think about it there are really no innovations that make you more productive. Theres a ton of things that are wrong! You don't hear mac users having problems with their OS do you (and I'm not taking sides). But vista it actually makes you work slower because xp (or leopard) could run faster!

uhm...30 watts?
The C2D e8400 consumes 125+.
An easy google search proves that

@evolutionpr What, the max voltage limit for E8400 is 65 watts, are you dumb, 125 is for Core 2 quad Q6600
Mine only consumes 30 and CAN prove it.
Oh actually it consumes 18.75 at full load, but it's at stock clock ;)

Hey, why don't you render an actual graphic-intensive scene? This scene is nothing.
I'll give you some scenes to render with V-ray... See how "fast" it is then.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but this scene just isn't that good of an example.

It's actually a valid question..
User : "lllIIlIIllIIIIlllIII"
Video : "8Core Mac Pro Xeon Vs. Quad Core PC (Benchmark)"
He is rendering a image of Size: 620x620 @ 3:18 in his video with the intel q6600 @ 2.4Ghz.
So what is the size of the image this 8 Core Mac is rendering, as he hasn't shown it?
To keep the Mac 8 core vs PC 4 core debate fair.
