Pop/psych there was Marmalade before they became poppy. Also of note Blossom Toes(We Are Ever So Clean. Also The End (Introspection) Then Pussy Plays. Procol Harum's worth a mention as a psych band (Shine On Brightly). My last one is by Family album called Music In a Doll's House. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
Great effort mate, don't really know why there are a few people complaining, but obviously they must be able to do better? Anyway, I have actually found a few bands I didn't know of so thank you.
I was born in 1965... so all this great music was all around... and what did my bloody parents have me listen to?! Beatles! No bad thing, but it's only now I am finding out what I MISSED!
Came Back to say the songs i love the most are (1. Pearls Before Swine: Another Time) (2. Kaleidoscope -- The Sky Children) (3. The Animated Egg -- A Love Built On Sand)
I checked out your channel and saw you are only 18! AMAZING selections here! I am 63 so around during that time and in the Haight and New York with flowers in my hair or painted on my face.. Are these all albums that you have ( if so I am soooo jealous!!! ). Btw there is some great melodic hard rock and melodic metal, especially in Europe and Finland and Sweden. And check out my channel and songs --- I'd love your opinion. Loved that you put up Love's Signed DC. One of my favorites. :-)
Hey this is a great list. Another fairly obscure psychedelic group (from the SF bay area, they had one hit, "White Bird") was the underrated band called "It's A Beautiful Day".
Fantastic list! Reminds me that I grew up during an exciting time and place for music. Had the opportunity to see several of the bands on your list in Philadelphia back in the day. Would like to suggest you listen to one more, Philadelphia's own "Mandrake Memorial", the keyboard player was on the cutting edge when synthesizers were making their debut.
Anyone notice how many 60's psych bands sound the same? I mean I can't even dig most of them cuz of that. There are however many exceptions to that and this list has quite a few of those exceptions. Thanks for putting it together.
I'd like to add (all from the Houston, TX area): Bubble Puppy; Bad Seeds, Thursday's Children, American Blues, Zakary Thaks, Mouse and the Traps, Shivas Headband, The Wig, Conqueroo, The Children (ZZ Top covered one of their songs, Francene, as well as the 13th Floor Elevators song featured here: Reverberation).
I know Love; I have few of their albums and I love, LOVE, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Sweet Smoke! I have (all) their three albums. It is one of my favourite group ever <3
Why the fuck are people complaining about which bands are on here? The video clearly states that the bands chosen are obscure bands, therefore, groups like Pink Floyd and The Beatles aren't going to be on the list.
Fucking READ for once in your life before you start bitching.
@LedHeadTillDeath good post man. so many obscure music that i either dont know or dont listen to enough. ill deffinitely be checking these bands out. Im digging the name by the way
@xxZeroZonexx Hey, I have heard of some of thesse bands, however, there is one ultimate, obscure, psychelic entity that was not mention: Syd Barrett. The ultimate pschedelic song is: "Clowns and Jugglers (Octupus)." Where is the influence? I do not here folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, etc. It is straight fucking mad! This guy is tripping. His lyrics and guitar makes no sense and, at the end, feels complete. It does not sound like a new genre of music. Hence: Electronica.
The songs are amazing, no complaints here. Pink Floyd, the Beatles, etc are fine, but I've heard their songs thousands of times. This selection is something unique.
@Geoveras Beatles weren't, agreed;but,Pink Floyd definitely were. The two albums they made in the 60's Piper At The Gates Of Dawn And A Saucerful Of Secrets were pyschedelic.listen to them and see.
That was awesome, you are a true gem, thank you so much for shairing so many great bands in such a short time frame. Thanks for putting this up. So much of this music got forgotten by radio before I was born, but I dig it. And if I want to hear it I have to dig. This made finding a ton of it easier.
By the looks of these moronic comments it seems folkes didn't get the point of this video posting. Great post, am stealing this vid link for my own page which has to do with a London psychedelic club from the 80's
A few more - Blue Cheer : Oden : The Cosmic Jokers : JPT Scare Band : Jeff Simmonds : The Damnation Of Adam Blessing : Heritage By Christmas : Ax Genrich : Guru Guru : Chrysalis : Mandrake Memorial : Bruce Haack : Swamp Gas : Naz : Arzachel : Motherlight : Tame Impala : - Enjoy!!
An impressive compliation. Too many bands I never heard of but that is the cool thing about it. Wish the music was readily available. You might add Savage Resurrection.
Fun video of times past. I'd include Neon Pearl, Joe Byrd, Andwella's Dream, Mandrake Memorial, The Deviants, and Incredible String Band, but you've got some noteworthy obscure ones here. :)
Great list! The biggest oversight in my opinion is not including the United States of America who IMHO made the greatest psychedelic record of all time. However you made up for it by including great bands like the Misunderstood, Tomorrow, Electric Prunes, and the Pretty Things (plus a lot of bands I need to investigate). In all seriousness though, do you really think that the Strawberry Alarm Clock are BETTER than the United States of America..??
@CvrkLukas I think the idea behind this is to post bands a lot of people may not know about. Pink Floyd, Beatles etc are pretty well known to most people so I don't see the point in including them here! Great work LedHeadTillDeath, I couldn't have done a better list myself.
@nicholasomesfilms This is for obscure 60's - hence @LedHeadTillDeath reply 3 weeks ago - Mate, Cream is my second favourite band, however, this is a video for OBSCURE '60s PSYCHEDELIC bands (as mentioned in the beginning slide), not for WELL-KNOWN '60s BLUES bands. Same goes for the bloke suggesting Grateful Dead; not obscure! And anyone in future thinking to mention Jefferson Airplane, early Floyd, etc. I want to help people find psychedelic bands they don't already know.
I was almost getting a little disappointed but sure enough right at the end you squeezed in Roky Erickson & The 13th Floor Elevators. Excellent comprehensive list. If you actually have all these albums in vinyl I am a very envious man. Thanks for taking the time to compile this collection. Great education for younger generations who know nothing of real music.
It did get me to thinking what makes a track pyschedelic? Hard to define - probably a combination of lots of things such as special effects e.g. fuzz, phasing, distortion, etc, novelties like reverse tracking, use of different instruments such as flutes, sitars and so on, use of eastern scales.
I always thought that, on the whole, the Brit psyc bands tended to be more creative/original than the US west coast bands who tended to remain closer to rocky/bluesy roots

@LedHeadTillDeath Alright, I can respect that then. They're definately not obscure, like you just pointed out. However, as for them being just blues and not psychedelic...I dunno. Some of their songs were undeniably psychedelic.
Check out the band Shape Of The Rain and their 1971 RCA/NEON Album Riley, Riley, Wood and Waggett. The tracks, 'Yes', Wasting My Time, Patterns, I'll Be There', Castles etc, are really 'Hippie and atmospheric of the time. They have a Facebook Page. Take care,

Like something non-mainstream? Then you may like KOZMIC DREAMERS. I find their artistic vision and expression of ideas refreshing. If you listen to them you may like them and perhaps buy a song or poem from itunes. Thanks for reading this.
Great list man. I present a monthly radio show, Dr Ben's Psychedelic Love In, on FM and live streaming and there are some great tunes on your list that will definitely make their way onto the show. Ta from the UK!
i wanted to do a video response, but it seems i cannot, so i have just uploaded my video of some of my fave psych bands and albums, including an early Sparks incarnation!! (very rare!)
and info on where to get them. i cant even post my blimming youtube link here!
you will just have to see my latest upload from my channel!!
Heard of Some, not of many - It's Great to hear some alternative music other than the 'pop'ular chart tracks of radio play being brought (in some cases back) to the recollection of 'the day' - (some 'homework' to be done methinks) - Thanx for sharing
@LedHeadTillDeath thanks also for introducing me to the awesome Tea & Symphony, The Flat Earth Society, & Pearls Before Swine!! I'm gonna go thru your 2nd list now!!
U R So Needed. Fuck mainstream. Radio stations play mainstream and kill the arts of music!

How is Cream not on here?!??Dantalin Chariot's version of Coffee Song cannot even compare, man.
CrazeeTori9 5 months ago
@CrazeeTori9 Mate, Cream is my second favourite band, however, this is a video for OBSCURE '60s PSYCHEDELIC bands (as mentioned in the beginning slide), not for WELL-KNOWN '60s BLUES bands. Same goes for the bloke suggesting Grateful Dead; not obscure! And anyone in future thinking to mention Jefferson Airplane, early Floyd, etc. I want to help people find psychedelic bands they don't already know.

Take care,

@hollohollowayredux And anyway, The Spoils of War is a concept album, which dont always have to be about melody. Take 666 by Aphrodites child.

@hollohollowayredux yes of course. And the music i love is very melodic and catchy. Or if its not exactly hummable it is still catchy. So there!

THANKS FOR PUTTING UP THESE BANDS THEY WERE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME!

Heard of Some, not of many - It's Great to hear some alternative music other than the 'pop'ular chart tracks of radio play being brought (in some cases back) to the recollection of 'the day' - (some 'homework' to be done methinks) - Thanx for sharing
