I totally miss Bill. We'll have to get the new collection. Few souls words are as timeless as he was. Bills biography documents that Jay Leno made David Letterman aware of Bill. David had Bill on his show multiple times.  Both Jay and David agree that Bill Hicks was the real deal and expressed deep admiration for him. I like Jay and David much more for understanding that it is logical for them to admire Bill Hicks, not the other way around.

Moreover, while this bit is not as gut-bustingly funny as some of his other stuff, can we argue that he's wrong?

He saw through Leno's phoniness before others did. How timely in light of the on-going controversy at NBC.

And, as OrielFilms said, Hicks also promulgated an uplifting message of hope and peace. That should count for something.

I think it more likely that Hicks' death has more to do with his sagacious prescience than with anything negative he has ever said. Just my two cents. :)

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, whether you like Hicks is up to you. But it's a little tacky to try and connect his brand of comedy with his untimely death. Nor is it fair to suggest that his humor "relied" on violence. His humor was absurdist and was as much a cartoonish representation of his views as it was criticism/commentary.
