If the person he was talking to on the phone were sat right there, she would never have even thought about it. They've done studies which show that hearing only one side of a conversation is incredibly distracting, but if you can hear both sides you just tune it completely out. So I can kind of understand where she's coming from, but at the same time, if he's just talking on his phone, it's basically the same as talking to someone who's sat right there except you only hear half a conversation.

A Theater is a different, place because people want to hear the movie, but when you're eating in a restaurant there is going to be some noise. It doesn't bother me when people are talking on the phone when I'm sitting behind them. People need to reserve the restaurant for themselves only if they don't want to hear noise. Restaurants is for public use.

I actually see both positions on this one. Listening to a two-person conversation is something that the brain can block out. Our brains can't do this when we're listening to a one-sided conversation. We're just not programmed to do it. So it is seriously annoying to have someone on the phone near you. MANY people consider cell phone use in restaurants to be very rude.

If the person he was talking to on the phone were sat right there, she would never have even thought about it. They've done studies which show that hearing only one side of a conversation is incredibly distracting, but if you can hear both sides you just tune it completely out.
