I don't think you understand the point of this shows. It's about surviving with what you can. Les tries to represent realistic survivor situations, not some guy who gets dropped into the middle of the jungle with a parachute. This show is about using anything and everything you can get your hands on to survive and he gave a great example with the radio and steel wool being used to start a fire.

remember, he needs to walk the same way 2 times for the camera.

That's something many of us won't be able to do in such a situation.

bear keeps moving trying to find a way out, it would be hell for him to have to keep going back for cameras. les just hangs around for 7 days and so doesnt have to keep moving that fast..so he can afford to come back for cameras.
