Best bait is clothes handwashing soap, a small cube will last forever dissolving the fat content slowly and attracting your catch.

In Australia I use old style velvet soap: no fancy perfumes just good old fat soap.

It works everytime. We call our crays: yabbyes. Crikey!!

it really depends on where you put the trap i alway put my traps on the river and some spots id get 1 and other times id get like 10 at a time

what about "chicken liver & chicken blood dough bait"? It's meant for catfish, but will it work to lure the crayfish into the bottle?

thanks for the tip but with these i put up near the shore and cover with rocks to hide them from people stealing them and also crayfish can hide like u said and so the traps dont wash away in the river current

One Super Tip I Learned:

A guy set a water proof video cam near each trap in a lake. He saw hundreds of cray fish walking around the trap and inspecting it, but they wouldn't go in. Then he realized why, the cray fish didn't feel protected from predators overhead since they could see through the top. He started making his traps with dark material for the top and Tripled his catch to the amazement of other trappers. They didn't know how he could get so many!

well i mean u can catch fish in there 2 ive caught quite a few bluegils in there aswell i use the gatorade bottles because there made of stronger plastic do if you want to cover them with rocks or whatever to hide them from people messing with them or taking them also the bottles already have a fairly large hole so you can catch larger crayfish amd small bulegils

@conman137 I got this idea from the 2 liter minnow trap on youtube seeing some people made them to catch crayfish i came up with this idea the bottle plactic is more rigid and theres a lager opening allwoing for larger crayfish instead of small ones now i make my traps out of like 1/4 mesh chicken wire and once you find a good spot youll catch tons there where days with my chickenwire trap was packed full from spring to early fall in 1 spot got 300 rusty crayfish

Me and my friends caught a crayfish with one claw in a t-shirt we cornered him then made a sort of ambush like a force trap ( only one escape but its a trap ) so kinda like a trap in a trap and hell that thing hurt when it pinches

You only need one bottle. Put a hinge one it. You see, you can aquire a bottle top from the very bottle you use as the trap part. I used to do this with 2 liter bottles. I'd use twist ties to temporarily hold the reversed tops on. I used bread for bait.

@Turnsleftlooksright I got this idea from people on youtube doing it with 2 liter bottles and ive tried it with just cutting the top off and fipping it around and doing it that way and i use resualbe zip ties there strong and work for me and works great with that heavier plastic bottle and i like the gatorade bottle allowing larger crayfish in and cz of the thicker plastic can weight it down with big rocks and not going to crush or worry about crushing the bottle

@gunsmith321 yeah i just took fishing string and i just i took a needle and fishing line and stuck it through the dead frozen minnows I liked em frozen because that way easier to handle and that way the blood isnt all over your hands and when you put it in the water and warms up and thaws the minnow releaseing the blood and the oilyness of the minnow to lure in the Crayfish(Crawfish) or whatever else happens to find its way in your trap

when i started out i used raw baccon i hung it on fishing line and hung it in the trap then i started using minnows (bigeer the better) I took a needle& fishing line i stucck the line through the heads of the minnows and hung em in the trap this spring im gona make a video proving that the trap really works
