  • Can you make a video of chase shooting on slow motion? Plz:) I just wana see what his shot look like:)

  • @basketball24809 We will consider this later in the Spring. His mechanics are the same as we teach other players. He learned from the same guy, his dad!!!

  • drose dose too

  • @beastcbansal123 there are a lot of Pros who do this and get away with it. Probably because of the lack of emphasis on defense.

  • again great video pure basics that dont even cross your mind thanks

  • @RealPersianPrince Thanks over and over again for your support. Please "Spread the Word!"

  • @kimsiaibin Just work on being as efficient as possible in getting ready and executing the shot.

  • Can you make a vid on how to move without the ball ?

  • @taliyah23456 This has been penciled into to our Spring plan. Stay tuned.

  • Ray Allen use dip rhythm...

  • @MrFilsoof95 He certainly does! However, this is something to learn how to avoid early in your game as it takes too long to get the shot off and it is in the Box and therefore exposed to the defender. Shawn Marion shoots the ugliest stroke and it goes in, but that is something he has worked on for hos entire basketball life and not something that we would recommend for young players.

  • @ShotScience I see, I dont use dip rhythm myself.. but I have always thought about doing it because if practiced enough it can be fast and it gives you a great leap... on the other hand Stephen Curry has a great up rhythm!;) What im focused on at the moment its my wrist.. I told I had to relax in the wrist, I shot it with a very tense wrist.. Should it be relaxed or tense?:) Thank you.

  • but your decreasing your potential energy? this means your shot is going to be different almost every time. how can i be consistant?

  • @SikkVerticalzz No, you are missing the point here. By eliminating the unnecessary extra motion you get the shot off quicker. The potential energy derived from the dip is not going to make your shot better or have much more power. The legs are what is the driving force for shooting.

  • Hey this is awesome!!

  • @givennewyork Thanks for your comment. We really appreciate it very much.

  • Very good.

  • @1mclovin2 Thanks so much for your comment. We really appreciate everyone offering their thoughts.

  • Thank it very useful.

  • @Jetanatjerm Glad you find this helpful. Please stay tuned for more videos.

  • Hi Tom! thanks again !! great advise!!!

  • @maunicomar09 Thank you again.

  • could you please do a video on more post moves as I'm currently having trouble finishing in the post.

  • @jgill1234567 We actually have several videos on post move already on our channel. Take a peek!

  • if im not already bent down (even thouh i should be) the ball will still fall a litle but should still be near my chest ?

  • @CantBeTchd Any dipping of the ball will expose it to the defender and more importantly, it will take extra time to get your shot off. This works in favor of the defender.

  • When we jump do we have to explode off the ground our do we do it at a calm, regular speed?

  • @m3v2p Everyone is a little different here. Do what feels comfortable for you. we have a move we call "One Dribble Pop" that is intended to be an explosive move, but normal jump shots should be comfortable and relaxed for the shot.

  • put how to shoot while still retaining accuracy

  • @Crazyjuicetoday You achieve accuracy by spending a ton of time working on your shot mechanics. We recommend our video "Get Perfect Shooting Form! Form Shooting Drill to help you accomplish this.

  • @ShotScience Thanks :D

  • THIS IS THE BEST CHANNEL EVER

  • @Crazyjuicetoday Thanks so much for your support and we hope you will "Spread the Word."

  • @2:12

    uh, FOUL????

  • @CodyMayers YES!!!! No call! Chase did retaliate a few seconds later to let the guy know that was pissed.

  • Coach, Im having trouble making my shots at the 3 point line. inside the 3-point line, i always make my shots, but outside it, i always miss. Got any tips on making it?

    Thanks in advance.

    -Brandon

  • @RyznCA Well Brandon, if your shots ted to short you are probably under-powered. We recommend that you watch our video "Make Three Pointers!! Get our legs into it." You can really feel that the shot is under-powered usually and what you are looking for is a feeling of "Effortlessness."

  • @ShotScience Aww, your welcome coach

  • coach, show how you can make shots off the dribble, pull up, fade away, leaner, runner, spin shot, or coming off picks

  • @foever321 Funny, but we have some of your suggestions in our plans. Thanks so much for re-enforcing what players want to see.

  • 3:30 - What good sportsmanship looks like!

  • @MasterLtGen You got it!!!! Not enough of it in the game!

  • Coach, Im having a very hard time being able to create a one-piece shot motion. In particular being able to move my arm upwards from the bottom and yet still deliver effortlessly, due to the ball's weight making my arms push out harder then i normally would,

When i say one piece I mean where everything comes together to create quick and strong momentum for the delivery as well as shooting the 3 *effortlessly*.

Do you have any tips for me? Thanks, in advance.

  • @productionshw It definitely sounds like your legs are not helping out sufficiently on your shot! See our video "MAKE THREE POINTERS - Get Your Legs Into It." This video will help you to understand how and why the legs are so important to your shot. To help with the smooth and efficient shooting go back to shorter shots and only move out when you feel that he stroke is what you want it to be. Let us know how this goes for you.

  • I MADE IT... ive been using your videos and i made point guard!!!!! THANK YOU

  • @MultiHelp4you Awwwwwesome!!!! Now keep it going. Also keep us up to speed on your team's season. Yea!!!!!

  • Now I understand thanks I probably didn't understand the first time because my computer speakers suck so I watch the vid my iPod with earphones and now I understand thanks

  • @lakersshowbarber24 Glad we could help and let's make sure not to "Dip It." You see Chase playing in the games and if you note, he has no dip rhytmn and the shot is away very quickly without rushing it. Thanks for your questions and stay tuned for more videos.

  • @ShotScience yeah thanks just got back from the y and im improving my shooting thanks

  • @lakersshowbarber24 Stay with it and become so effective that you lead your team in scoring.

  • I agree that it is faster, but i think this also depends on the pass being on your shot pocket. If the ball is caught and it is way too high such as upper chest I noticed that even if my feet is set the ball will come short because a good shot starts with a comfortable shot pocket all the way to the release point.

  • Comment removed

  • @lakersshowbarber24 The player you are asking about is demonstrating "Dip Rhytmn." This is not a good idea. When you dip the ball it is slow on the release and exposed to the defender. We suggest you avoid this because it takes too long to get rid of the ball as well as exposing it. Review this video again to see what we mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @ShotScience but shooting like that is ok but is not as fast as the guy demonstrating at 00:47 right?

  • @lakersshowbarber24 Not being quick enough is the POINT!!!! You can use the Dip if you choose, but your making it easier for the defender to contest or block your shot.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @lakersshowbarber24 The Dipping action of the first shooter "takes more time" to get the shot off because of the unnecessary dipping action prior to the shot. The other one is eliminating that dipping action and therefore the shot is off sooner and less likely to be blocked. For a game action look at the quicker release check out our video Chase Curtiss Highlights and see how quickly he gets his shot off without rushing. He is just efficient with the motion.

  • Comment removed

  • @lakersshowbarber24 Okay, lets look at this again. It is easily explained by the player who has the green arrows and circles defining what this dipping motion is. There are different players demonstrating in the video. Both use the dip and the Up Rhytmn to show the contrast. Review this video again and it will make more sense.

  • Hey Coach, i wanted to ask you about the video.

Play the video until 0:04, and why isn't that a offensive charge foul? I mean, the opposing center helped out and left the other center alone just to take charge, and just gave up an easy slam.

  • @JustFlew Well from the video it looks like charge, but I saw this play in action and the guy slid over just a little and that's why he did not get the charge call. Chase kind of set this up and the guy wasn't set. Good eyes though. thanks for watching Chase's videos. He was so much fun to watch play.

  • I hav a question, when I move to the 3 point range I feel weaker and it is not even that far from where regulary shoot, what am I doing wrong?

  • @thatsoNasty24 It would be our guess that you are not engaging your legs for their power. If you go to our video library on YT you will find a video there, "Get Your Legs Into It" and it will spell out how and why the legs are used. Check it out.

  • @ShotScience another question if you don't mind responding, i shoot the ball jumping high, i don't actually dip the ball or anything, i just take it the way up after a jab step or some kinda fake, but i mean, these guys you show here actually shoot it like jumping 1 inch in the shot even the jump shots in the other video were like a little "skip" and the shot was gone, but you can't shot against good defense like this, nba, euroleague, semi pro and are you against fadeaways? thx again ;)

  • @alejandrothefader Jumping high for your jump shot is not as important as having it be comfortable. You do not want to force something that is not there or the results will be poor. Creating space for the shot is more important than how high you jump.

  • @ShotScience thank you ;)

  • @alejandrothefader You are more than welcome!

  • @ShotScience ;)

  • @alejandrothefader Your Welcome.

  • Hey Tom and guys, thank your a lot for every video)

I've got a question about my shooting rhytm.I can shoot 2 different ways:

dip rhytm and wthout.I feel like the second way is a pretty much quicker, but when I'm from 5-9 feet away from the basket it seems like I don't leave the ground, because I dont need too much power for that shot. It seems to me if I be shooting that way in the game I'll get blocked.

    What would your reccomend?

P.S: Sorry for my English, that's not my native language;)

  • @TheBkiller12 We totally recommend that you use the "Up-Rhytmn" instead of the "Dip-Rhytmn. You get the shot off quicker. If you need more space for your shot delivery think about learning some moves to create added space. If you go to our two videos"Chase Curtiss Highlites" you will see him , as you did in this video getting his shot off before anyone can get to him to block

  • @ShotScience Thanks for such a qiuck answer)You're the best)

  • @TheBkiller12 You are really welcome. Glad we could offer some help.

  • NBA sharpshooter Ray Allen, who has one of the quickest release, shoots with the dip rhythm.. So it is alright to use either method as long as you feel good. Am i right, coach?

  • @jackyhengy Well Jack, just because Ray uses dip rhytmn doesnt mean that you should follow suit. The dipping takes time and allows the defender to close out to contest the shot. Why would you want to allow him time to possibly block your shot. If you want to see what "Up-Rhytmn" looks like check out our video "Chase Curtiss Highlights 1 and 2" to see how the defenders cannot get there in time to contest. Ray Allen is a great player, but few of us are able to do what he does effectively.

  • Thank you very much Shot Science Team, thanks to you my shooting and overall game has improved drastically. Before your vids I was just a force driving to the rim, now thx to you I got an deadly midrange shot and respectable outside jumper. My opponents now have to respect me everywhere on court and it creates a lot opportunities for me and my teammates because I'm an decent passer too. It's funny to see the face of a bigger when you score in the post as a 5'8 combo guard.

    Greetings from Germany

  • @m1ndgameluv Greetings from the U.S.A. We are so pleased that you have worked on your game and improved so much. We like that our videos have been useful for you as well. Please stay tuned for more videos and BTW, please "Spread the Word."

  • @ShotScience By the way do you got some tips for me on how I can my ability to block shots?

I am athletic enough to block some but I feel like I just doesn't have the timing everytime.

  • @m1ndgameluv To be honest we are not big on blocking shots. Too often they result in shooting fouls. Refs often assign fouls when maybe there has been no contact. If you must, "Never swing at the ball." Instead hands up and merely a touch on the ball will cause it to miss and less likely to draw a foul. Swinging at the ball to "look impressive" and knock it into row 14 is a sure formula for a foul most of the time. We like the "Wall-Up" technique when we can execute it to avoid fouls.

  • @ShotScience Okay, thx again for the tip. I guess hard-nosed, straight up defense is the best way to avoid getting scored on, so I try to continue doing that. Again, thanks a lot Shot Science!

  • @m1ndgameluv You are very welcome and you are right about the "Hard-nosed defense." You become pretty difficult to beat when you can really defend.

  • I find this "up" rhythm easier to achieve while in motion, preferring to walk into my shot, either taking one step towards the hoop or to the side. While I do that, I lift the ball towards the eventual release point and when I arrive at the chosen spot to shoot, the ball is already up, ready to go. In a catch-n-shoot or spot-shooting situation, I find this more difficult and tend to dip. Would it be easier if the passer just dished it higher to me or it is a matter of repetition?

  • @ConcaCon You have the right idea on using your footwork to set up your shot early. We teach our students to use this step as the ball is in the air to you. This helps you with shooting rhytmn as well as getting the shot away quicker without rushing. This should be real easy for you on the catch and shoot. Try it!

  • Um coach i see my promblems and wonder if shooting write above the hairline is an safe and effective way of shooting the basketball

  • @megabeastlyboy Please check out our YT video "Set Point" and this will help you on the best location of the ball for your shot.

  • Man, every time I get the ball everybody reaches in on me and grabs the ball thinking I suck at basketball when it always goes to jump ball because I won't let go! how do I avoid that, I tried shooting faster like the guy in the video but they come in so fast I can't take the shot!

  • @TheFinalCountDown100: We have a video "Protecting the Basketball" on our YT channel that will probably really help you out. Check on it and this may be the key for your protecting the ball.

  • @ShotScience Thanks for replying to me, it wasn't only the fact that they were stealing it but they were actually reaching in. They didn't call the reach ins so that they would win, protecting the ball will help though but how do I get out of their reach-in situation, or reach in tactics.

  • @TheFinalCountDown100: One of our videos that may help you here is "Creating SpaceTo Score." Check it out.

  • @TheFinalCountDown100 Pump fake and/or jab step. For the reach in create space between them and the ball. Should work

  • @basketballscientist Tried, they've already got their hands on the ball before I can even attempt the pump fake.

  • @TheFinalCountDown100: Well, you must find a way to protect the ball OR if they are that close you need to attack them with the dribble. They will have little time to react.

  • @TheInsaneBadass: It applies mostly to catching the ball as we use the Dip to find some rhytmn. Off the dribble a little different.

  • @TheInsaneBadass: Many do use it and it makes them able to get the shot off quicker. Dirk Nowitski always keeps the ball up without the "dip."

  • good video gone to go try it

  • @twadlington8: Thanks and let us know how it works. You should be able to get rid of the ball much quicker without rushing.

  • during practice

  • @MrY3110w: During your practices with your team, but certainly when you practice on your own. That is where we are usually able to correct any problems we have and then take them to the court.

  • But that's what I mean, when I shoot off the dribble or catch, my form changes and it's really irritating

  • @MrY3110w: Well, the only way to do something about this is to practice a ton with emphasis on your problem areas.

  • I've been shooting with same form for years and been doing formshooting drill for more than a year but when try to shoot fast my form changes and really decreases my accuracy, help!

  • @MrY3110w: We are really glad you asked this question. In developing shooting accuracy it is important to also practice your stroke at "GAME SPEED." You need to do this in order to become effective when the pace of the game is fast. The mixture of "form Shooting" and "Game Speed Shooting" is essential to maintain shot mechanics when you play.

  • @ShotScience how do i practice "game speed"?

  • @MrY3110w: Practice your shooting off the dribble and catch while moving at game speed. Hard Dribbles and pull for your shot. Work on coming off screens to catch and shoot. Make your games speed drills game-like as much as possible so your shooting replicates the game.

  • can u please help?

i always perfrom a good move like crossover or in and out and whenever itake the shot after miss

im too used to catching the balll adjustting it and then shooting

  • @jamasterj25786: Not really sure what your question is. Try us again.

  • @ShotScience let me restate

i feel like whenever i prefrom a dribble move and get past my defender and then take a shot it comes up short, i feel like i use all my explosion and then cant set up properly for the shot quicly enough

  • @jamasterj25786: This sounds like you are late on your jump shot delivery. We can tell if that is the case by what the shot feels like! If it feels "UNDER-POWERED" then your are shooting the ball late. You want to deliver the ball as you reach the top of your jump. If you do this the shot should feel "EFFORTLESS." If you are late on the delivery, the ball almost always is short of the basket and has a flat arc.

  • @ShotScience thats exactly it! thanks alot im gonna get in the gym tommorow morning and fix it

btw how many shots should i be taking a day in order to be a better shooter?

  • @jamasterj25786: We recommend 2-300 per day, but they need to be quality shots and a mix of Form Shooting and Game Speed shooting.

  • @ShotScience deffintly gonna try today

one more problem i have is sometimes when i play with a ball that has less grip and is dry like i can outdoor play it effects my shooting is there any way to fix this

  • @jamasterj25786: Get a different ball!

  • @ShotScience for personal use i have that im comfertable with

but what if im playing in a game where the ball isnt a well gripable as i want?

  • @jamasterj25786: Well jmaster, we have thought a lot about your question and we have no solution for you except "Bring your own ball."

  • @jamasterj25786 i agree with you that always happens to me plus i have a game today

  • @MajorPain977: Good luck in that game and lets get rid of that 'DIP RHYTMN." It takes too long to get rid of the shot! Start fixing it tomorrow.

  • I'm so much better now and I got 6-7 field goals-thanks!

  • @jerseyst1: Hopefully you are thanking us for some help you may have gotten from our videos. Thanks to you as well.

  • @ShotScience i am They make so much better

  • @jerseyst1: That really pleases us. Keep getting better.

  • @ShotScience i will

  • Coach, I want to make my JV highschool team next year as a sophmore in high school and i am gonna practice over the summer. My problem is my shot, my accuracy isnt bad and my shooting isnt either when i am open. But when i try to shoot near anyone, even my little brother who is 8 in shorter than me, i get blocked! Easily. And when i shoot at the gym ppl say that my shot looks ugly and bad! Plz tell me how i can get a proper shot with arc.

  • @Shezi270: Well Shezi, we recommend that you review all of our shooting videos FIRST! Then send us a video showing you shooting from all angles and as close-up as you can. We DO NOT need to see the ball go through the basket. Only then, can we offer you any help because we do not know what your shot looks like! We will be waiting for your video.

  • @ShotScience Shud i send my vid on " respond with video" option or???? And where do i see all your shooting vids?

  • @Shezi270: Respond with video works.

  • Hey shotscience. Today I was playing basketball I made 2 for 4 jumpers in my game. I was playing with adults so I couldnt drive it really. How could I improve my shot? I think its good but i had an off day. I feel I should have made them. Thank you.

  • @Pimpdaddylowe: Well, the best thing to do is review our shooting videos and look for those things that you feel will help your shooting. Let us know how it goes.

  • Hey shotscience , i understand you guys get thousands of personal questions all the time so i thank you beforehand if you guys can help answer my question. Now i have seen some of your other shooting videos, maybe i havent seen them all but my problem is my shot is pretty good in terms of rythym and form, but only close range just a little bit inside the three line (College 3 line). Once i go beyond the arch my shots lack consistency and many times cannot even reach the basket. Any advice?

  • @crooklyn817: When you struggle from beyond the three point line it is usually because we are not getting the power from our legs into the shot. See our video "Get Your Legs Into It." The legs are made up of the largest and strongest muscles in our body and they serve us when we shoot the longer shots. One point to pay particular attention to is"Connection" of the legs to your shooting stroke. This is the key to getting the power you need for the longer shots. Check it out.

  • Thank you so much for all your videos they have helped me so much, all the time my shooting technique was wrong till I watched this video, maybe if it was possible you could do a more explained video on how to release the shot like you was showing when you was holding the ball?

  • @Adamhegaz: If you review our shooting videos you will find videos that fully explain the release of the shot. Check it out.

  • some awesome tips.. i like this one here the shot and diamond and hammer.. very nice i hope this will help me improve

  • @JamesLacseul: After a period of practice you will be abole to use these to kick some serious butt!!

  • Something is wrong. When i shoot. Its mostly an

    in and out

  • @randydhack: Send us a video of your shot. We cannot help you without seeing what you are doing.

  • thanks for the tips that explains a lot and makes more sense !!!

  • @jbnice1911: Glad we could help. Please stay tuned for more of our videos.

  • coach, i think i use my guide hand to much because i havent got enough control with my shooting hand. How can i stop this? thanks

  • @DHinchliffe12: Often your control problem comes from not having your thumb spread to elevate the ball off your palm. When we do this our thumb and our little finger have a grip on the ball. The thumb from your ASSIST HAND (not Guide Hand) can be a real problem as it affects rotation and direction of the shot. Work to get that thumb off the final release of the ball. The tell-tale if the thumb is getting in the way is: The ball will have sideways rotation instead of backward rotation.

  • nice, thanks , I learned a lot

  • @themegacomputernerd: We are pleased that you could use some of our thoughts. Please stay tuned for more.

  • Great vid

  • @jessiepayton21: Thanks. We appreciate that a lot.

  • Thanks for the explanation. There's one issue I'm still unclear about. You say that when you catch the ball, rather than dip it, move the ball into the shooting position. I see how that would speed up my shot, but dipping helps me get my body into the proper shot position. As I dip the ball, I'm also bending at the knees and hips which I need to do in order to jump. If I move the ball directly to the shooting position, I won't be coiled or crouched enough to jump when I release the ball.

  • @ibshaz1340: Get all of the leg bending doen before your receive the ball! This is a key point.

  • oh~your vid really healp me a lot~~~

    thanks

  • @chris12159: Glad to be there for you. Stay tuned for more.

  • Thumbs up

  • @bulletproofbullets: Thanks for your support. You get a "Thumbs up from us too!"

  • Hi Coach, for jumpshots should i use my same free-throw form but by just adding jumping into it?

  • @UmpFortyFive: That's the Deal. Use the same shot elements as the FT or Set Shot.

  • thank .

you really make a good job.

could you put substitle or writting in inglish your lessons into video ?

for the foreings speakers will be an another great support of us.

  • @glegab: We are working on this to see if we can offer other languages.

  • thank

  • @mandy7097: You are welcome!

  • thank

  • I have the ball you're holding! XD

  • @SirDalue: Good choice!

  • Hey, everybody could ask all of you to subscribe cuz' Shot Science help us a lot

  • @marcobriomartin: Hey, thanks for your support. We really appreciate it a ton. Thanks again!

  • After creating space between me and the defender it feels like i take a long time to get my shot off got any tips

  • @pixy4life: The best we can offer is to analyze your shot and see if you can find elements that you can eliminate or hurry up without shooting too soon. Possibly make a video or make it and send it to us for our ideas.
