  • Man do i love the P38!!! Awesome.

  • It's hard for me to decide but definitely think that the Zero has the best sound. xD

  • when the world ends, i'm stealing the USS New Jersey, retaking the panama canal, steaming to CA, and borrowing that p-38 for the rest of my days/

  • Some of the best birds ever! Nice Vid!

  • Thank you so much for putting this up.

  • You notice how the Japanese starts no problem! That is why I always like Japanese cars better as well.

  • Sound from zero reminds me on sound from Star Wars Ships in space :)

    AWSOME!!!!!!!!

  • yea all of them are nice planes but the p-38 owns actually i like the p-38l but this is the p-38j

  • Gotta Love the Clugging of that 14 Cylinder in the Zero...

  • nice but i love the p-38 the most

  • nice to see these fighters fly side by side....

  • first time ive seen american and jap. planes when they are not fighting

  • fuckin'yankees

  • great to see old adversaries flying together

  • shame that zero is a probably a replica as after the war they where made to destroy all thier aircraft :( they only had one zero left it was in a cave so there is only 1 japanease ww2 plane alive thats real

  • @XsUp3rDuBzX You may want to brush up on your history.

  • @XsUp3rDuBzX Not true. There is an original Zero that is still flyable in Minot, ND at the Dakota Territory Air Museum. That one was found in 1965 and restored to original condition. It is one of three originals and the only known naval version of the zero. The wingtips fold up, reducing the wingspan by roughly 3 feet. The only thing that is not original is the engine.

  • @UAL012 yeah, thats the beige A6M2 with the tail number A I-I-I 29

  • @XsUp3rDuBzX There is only 1 with original engine left

  • I would LOVE to buzz a few houses at oh dark thirty at around 350 knots in that P-38!

  • I love you sakae In Japanese aishite imasu sakae

  • i love the sound of those old engines

  • AHH man..the p38 Lightning is too cool at 1:35 n 2:05

  • Too bad ive never been to Cali or the west coast but I hear we have an awsome warbird museum down near Lakeland FL that does fun stuff like this. Thanks for the vid!

  • ahh KPSP my Air Traffic professor retired from PSP Tower

  • airman's spirit never die

  • I think it is possible to come original ZERO Fighter that can fly now only one it.

There is flying by 5?6 when the one restored to take movie "Pearl Harbor" is put together.

The one that it is possible to fly by airplane of WW2 of Japan is only this ZERO Fighter.

The museum in Japan seems not to have a mind to part with though there is still an airplane that can fly if it restores it to Japan.

Because the translation site is used, I'm sorry by poor English.

  • Thin Zero, fat Hellcat ... how a plane could be so elegant like A6M2 ?

  • great to see the two planes my ancestors flew,

    a6m zero and p-38 lightning

  • I wonder how many Zero's are still flying?

  • @davidrodgersNJ 2 Original zeros are flying but the commerative air force has a pratt and whitney engine, but planes of fame as the orginal engine in it. the other zeros are converted at-6's

  • @SgtGrant23

I believe there are at least 2 restored Zeros in Japan that are capable of flight in the Nobuo Harada collection. I don't think they fly and it might be because of the aviation laws there. A second restored Zero with the original engine is supposed to finish restoration very soon and will fly in the US.

  • it must've been amazing to see these planes in battle.

  • Awesome vid, love that whistle from the hellcat. Imagine a whole squadron flying past.

  • The Sakae engine stands from the other planes.

    What a great sound!!!!

  • why cNT THEY just leave to guns on the pLANES AND just deactavate them

  • @MrSuperfrog6 because thats gay. why have guns then? the guns arnt valuable the planes are. you could still buy a machine gun. the browning m2 is still in use today and ive seen them for sale online. if for some reason you could just put them in. i dont know why you would need to tho

  • @xxuncexx

It is not legal to have active weapons in these planes. Today's owner is not buying a toy hot-rod, but a multi-million dollar investment and the authenticity with deactivated guns is just as important to some owners and to the final price tag. Even some of the Reno racers are being built back to stock condition because they are more valuable as originals than as racers.

  • @FiveCentsPlease may not be legal but who said you cant do it?

  • @xxuncexx

That would be the FAA inspector looking over your plane before he signs the papers that let you go flying. Before he notifies Homeland Security and the ATF and takes your plane away from you. Read info on the Claude Hendrickson AD-4N Skyraider now seized by the feds to see what happens when you screw up your paperwork, whether it was accidental or intentional.

  • @FiveCentsPlease duh. but face the facts i would have put guns in it. legal? no, but i did it.

  • @MrSuperfrog6

Several restorations fly with deactivated guns for authenticity. It's not legal to have active guns and it's up to the owner to decide to install them in the restoration. Replica guns can be installed as well and a few planes used to have propane guns to make noise during air display. (I don't know if those are still used.)

  • where's there? i'd like to visit

  • Beautiful sight. Who would have guess back in the dark days of WW2 these epic war veterans would fly together without firing a single bang bang. The Zero fighter is one of my all time favourites, but I'm amazed how small it is compared to the rugged Hellcat. No wonder the japanese pilots found 'em hard to knock out from the sky........

  • @dj17q thats cause they took the guns off em!! lol

  • @sledpuller Har har....and the fact is WW2 has ened......

  • Awesome! three of the best warplanes of world war2 in flight.

  • "Give us the courage to fight 'em and one other small item..an escort of P38's!"

  • Is this the Japanese Zero that was built by Gerry Beck? I know that he and a team of people built the parts from scratch. He passed away in a flying accident, but his wife still builds P-51's in Wahpeton, ND.

  • The all 3 planes are gorgeous...thanks for sharing.

  • Gotta love that turbo whine on that hellcat! or is that supercharger? Ether way Wow great video!

  • @970blues i beleive the F6F has a supercharger, yes

  • @DisturbedForever92

    they had twin superchargers

  • dont piss off the USA and Japan

  • Go zero!

  • Japan bombed Darwin, 2 months after attacking the US at Pearl Harbour. The US, Australia, Canada, UK and Netherlands warned Japan it did not want a war in the Pacific. (After many years of Japan invading China) After Japan Attacked the US, all these country's declared war on Japan. Japan was the aggressor, and probably wanted to control Asia for the Asians, and drive out the Whites. Whether there was a base at Darwin or not, had nothing to do with it...Japan WAS the "BAD" guy!!

  • @kramrollin69 Imperial Japan was forced to attack the US out of desperation, given their oil supplies were cut. However one needs to understand that the Japan then was basically controlled by a brutal and expansionist militarist regime that didn't really care for the lives of those they invade, or their own people as well. If anything it's a good lesson on why we should always resist fascism.

  • i remember a movie about 3or 4 pilots from ww2 an american japan german and britain they were all friends and fly for flight shows until somenoe sobatages the p-38 with real ammo...anybody know the movies name? if yes please respond:/ i have been looking for it.....

  • @xazoulini1 Aces: Iron Eagle 3

  • Its a nice way of "Fighting the war that nver really ended" Harmless educating and basically really enjoyable!

  • Very nice sound the engine of P-38...plane also of the famous writer " Antoine de Saint Exupéry " " Small prince".

  • I am an American. I deeply respect Japan and think they are one of our most important economic partners.

  • Nippon Banzai!!

  • The P-38 used superchargers not turbos. Great Video.

  • @ChanceGTO1967 WRONG. The Allison V1710s used on the P-38 were turbo charged.

  • They certainly don't make em' as beautiful as that anymore

  • Why, in America,is everything slightly above average described as AWESOME.

  • @keegan773

Because describing something as "slightly above average" sounds stupid.

  • @bsg1206 I think you have missed the point. Overuse of a word, such as Awesome, devalues that word to the point that it loses it's real meaning ie Full of awe.

  • @keegan773

I'm just messin' with you ;)

  • Beautiful

  • Very nice Planes;)

I think the a6m is the best fighter, it is fast and agile. Then the Hellcat is a nice plane to, but in my opinion, this is a light bomber like the stuka. And the P38 is a very very good bomber and i think it is very useless for an recon plane;)

  • nice to see these war plains fly side by side...

  • We, the Americans and British Commonwealth killed all the mean Japanese. The Buddists that subscribed to the Shinto Scriptures were defeated by killing every last one of them with few exceptions. The survivors were driven so far "underground" or out of the mainstream that we've not heard much of a peep from them. There was one wierd flare up in the 1980s when a Shinto Sect poisoned the Tokyo subway with ricine gas.

  • How come we never see these "UURRAHH" documentaries about all the corporate contracted crap American soldiers had to fightr all our wars with.. we could call it "America's Shittiest Weapon System" supplied to Appropriations Committees by Defense Influence Peddlers. Instead of the Top Ten we could list how many boys & girls died because the shit did not work.

  • I love Japan. Japan is awesome.

  • May 15th & 16th...2010 Chino airshow........ gonna be GREAT! WW2 & Korean dog-fights with these classics

  • Re "P38 had contra-rotating props so torque was not an issue." It did, but they did NOT rotate in the normal direction. Because the airplane provided a more stable platform with them turning in the opposite direction from normal, they did. This caused either engine to be considered the "critical" engine if it went south.

  • Isn't it something that this many years after the war Japan and the US are military allies?

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting.

  • Part 2- It either comes from the same air duct as (supposedly) supplies the intercooler, OR it intakes from a hole INSIDE the root of the wing, ie it draws the air from inside the wing. I doubt that. It's ALSO possible that the pipe that I mentioned is just the path the air follows from the intercooler intake duct to the cooler. In which case, I have no idea where the carb. intake is. The Corsair is somewhat similar, but I can't tell on either one if I'm looking at the carb or the cooler intake

  • Can anyone tell me where the carbeurettor intake intake is on a Hellcat or a Corsair? I have a "cutaways" book, but it's a bit confusing in spots. On the Wildcat, the charge-air-intake was at the 12:00 position, over the engine. On the Hellcat, there is three intakes under the engine, the center for the oil cooler, and the other 2 are "intercooler intakes". Behind the engine, there is what looks like an air intake pipe running to the "supercharger housing", and it either comes from the CONTINUED

  • Never realized the Hellcat had a slight whistle to it.

It's not as pronouced as the Corsair "whistling death" which was caused by the the large air intakes located on the wings near the fuselage.

The Hellcat came just in time to win air superiority in the Pacific. Thank you Grumman!

  • You certainly can't confuse the P-38 for any other a/c of the period!

  • & because of this, an expert pilot could make this big twin-engined fighter turn very sharply at high or low speed, since it was almost immune to being mishandled into a spin. Col. Oliver Taylor who was a P-38 ace & fighter group commander in the MTO said that it took about twice as long for a pilot to master the P-38's capabilities, but after so doing, a pilot could become "invincible" in this aircraft.

Problems with the Allison engines at high alt. caused most of the problems with ETO P-38s

  • Damn! that hellcat is so bad ass sounding! all beautiful planes. hellcats my favorite :D

  • That P-38 looked good with those drop tanks on it. Don't get to see that often, flown clean for demos

  • Thanks, this was informative to a history buff who grew up attending air shows.

  • Beautiful machines special j.0

  • Someone once said that, all things considered, toughness, offensive firepower (Sunday punch), maneuverability, range, rate of climb, the Hellcat may have been the best all-around fighter of WWII, even though many were faster (>375 mph top speed of the Hellcat) and a few were more maneuverable. What say ye?

  • The Hellcat was more maneuverable than the Corsair, Thunderbolt, Mustang & nearly all others, well armed & very rugged, but a faster fighter can dictate the terms of the fight.

The Lightning was very fast & most importantly could out-climb all other piston-engined planes in service. It's concentrated, straight-ahead firepower was devastating & because of the contra-rotating props, torque was not an issue, so the stall characteristics were fabulous.

  • @harryhonkmann Thanks. I watched a P-38 dosome reallyimpressive stunts. It was that same airshow in Chino. Then the guy, Whitey something I think, did them allover again with one engine out!

  • @hallmobility That sounds like what the Lockheed test pilot Tony LeVier did during his tour of the P-38 bases in England in late 1943.

It turned out that the pilots didn't realize what they could do in the airplane & had been schooled into a defensive mentality, which had negatively skewed their performance. Levier changed a lot of attitudes toward the '38 with his demonstrations.

  • I watched a staged dogfight at Chino--a Zero vs. a Hellcat and a Corsair. The Zero outturned both and was able to maintain a defensive circle for a while. The Corsair was the fastest, and least maneuverable. So the Corsair climbed and dived to keep the Zero constrained to its tight circle. The Hellcat maneuvered in a slightly wider circle, until the Zerogot enough ahead so it finally got the Zero in its sights.

  • P-51 is beautiful fighter.

    But its type D only.

    And british engine the marine.

Air craft bodys Designer is German american.

  • Thus, enemy's past fighter though the war is hated

It is an empty desire why Japan sees and makes a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor and started fighting at that time.

    However, the fighter is good-looking.

It is prayed that there be such a flight indefinitely.

  • …Ninja…………(ーー;)

  • Zero's Ninja plane !!! most deadly ...

  • Zero Fighter is beautiful body.

    F6F is good engine sounds.

P38 is Satan of twin fuselage.

  • P-38s are one of the most beautiful airframes ever...

F6F's are, like most American fighters,... tanks.

Zeros... Beautiful, but extremely thin designs!

  • Yes, that ! sorry.

and F6F looks like Germans Fw 190A !

    F6F is a great fighter !

But・・・The feature of Zero fighter is a thing that the extra super duralumin that Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. developed is used to install the device that can automatically adjust the going up and down rudder first in history according to the thing and the speed. Thank you very much !

  • great! and cool!

  • Hey look, it's 23 skiddo.

    Thanks!

  • ha, listen to those merlins in the p38.............the poms really knew how to build an aero engine .

  • Merlin engines? Those are the American made Allison V-1710-111/113 at 1,425 h.p. each.

  • Those are Allison V1710's in the P-38. Actually a far more durable engine than the vaunted Merlin.

  • P38 used Allison engines, not Merlins.

  • after doing IL-2 for several hours on all realism settings, it gives you an idea of what each plane was capable of and gives you an idea of how hard it was to dogifght back then. I love the zerosen. to see it fly makes me happy, and its why I drive a mItsubishi. there's about 23 zeros in the world, about 4 or 5 that are flyable, I don;t know how many there are of hellcats or P-38s. probaly alot more.

  • Its so sad that there is only FEW p38 lihjtnings leftr in the world. Such a huge chunk of history in a big hunk of metal :(

  • The P-38 Lightning was one of the few American planes at the begining of WW11 that could go toe to toe with Japenese Zero. The Lightening could "feather" one prop and turn on a dime while firing the 50 calibers at the Zero!

  • Yea, but when it met FW-190 he got ass kicked because he couldn't roll on the side as quick as other planes, because of the double engines. But it was a great plane

  • When equipped with boosted ailerons (P-38J-25-LO onward, over half of the entire production run of the type) the P-38 developed roll rates of 90 degrees per second.

  • The only WWII bird I have seen fly in person is a B-17. It's cool to know what the Hellcat sounds like, as it's my favorite fighter! The Zero sounds sweet also, kinda like my Subaru.. haha

  • P-38's are cool.. but listen to that grunt of the Zero... freaking awsome... The F6F whistle is cool as well..

The shotgun bang @ 1:00 scared the crap out the guy shooting the vid.. See the video jump..

Thanks for the video,,,, Great Job.

  • Comment removed

  • What was the bang at 1:00? Did the Hellcat have a shotgun starter or something like that?

  • I hope they rebuld some of these P 38, zeros and helcats. Cos they are not many left.

About the dicussion who designed the zero: japan has to begin from scratch it may be possible that they copied some features from Huges ,It seem logical to me, BUT they perfected it, the made it better. Later the USA countered with the Hellcat

  • jets are boring

  • I love seeing these old birds flying!

  • The fly past of all three aircraft was something special.

Love the grunty sound of the Zero.

  • 127 the hellcat sounds awesome, similar to me109 which im afraid to say i think sounds better on full chat than a merlin

  • I agree that sounds awsome, but hearing those twin allisons in the P-38 gives me goose bump and sounds simular to twin Merlins like in a mosquto.

  • 1:27 Freakin' Sweet!!!

  • those planes are beautiful

A6m (zero)-formidable in few yrs half of WW2

F6F (hellcat)-Formidable in the next few yrs of WW2

    P-38 (Lightning)-as superior as the A6M

  • hehe. Jap does not seems any insult for me.

May be it's funny call Hey Jap.

  • Whats up Mongoloid.

  • Mongoloid is truly insult. Are you going to insult me? Now it is clear to me Why you hate every one. Stay in your island forever. World is not welcome for such hateful people. And DO NOT reply me Jap.

  • Now you know how I feel when I hear the word Jap. You think its funny until someone calls you the name you hate, I deal with this from , Chinese, Americans, Koreans and Australians. I don't hate everyone, I don't hate mogolian people I have friends who live in the US. Jap is just as much a slur as Mongoloid. do you still think its funny.

  • that zero is a AT6 texan

  • its not a T-6, its a real zeorsen that was captured after the battle of saipan in 1944, it was restored to fly in the 1970s, its one of only 5 zeros in the world that are flyable. the T-6 zero has shorter landing gear, shorter cowling, a stubbier body. and a bend in its wings. the zerosen 61-120 is the real thing

  • Why theres only 5 zeros left cuz those damn sucidel pilots cant fly and the zero can catch on fire with the slitest damage

  • no, but also because those damn Americans destroyed so many of them after the war, but burning them , scraping them, sinking them.

  • Are you a racist.

  • I am Japanese, you probaly hate Japan and all Japanese people, telling by you saying "Jap"

  • I dont hate Japenese people and i hope to live in Japan someday

  • Im not racist so stop thinking that ok

  • when you use that word, most people that you that word on Japanese are usually racist towards Japanese, like Australians and Chinese and Americans on youtube with all the videos that have to do with Japan and WW2

  • ok i didnt mean to ok im sorry now lets talk about something else besides this stuff

  • Ok so we cool now

  • yeah

  • ok cool

  • then why did you use the term "Jap"

  • The term Jap does not have any negative connotations except the ones you give it. Jap is short for Jap(anese) Unless you consider the term Japanese an insult to your race, why do you consider "Jap" an insult? In the US we use nicknames for everything. Its no different than calling a man named Malory, Mal. In WWII Americans called the Japanese, Japs for convenience not for an insult. They had much more colorful words for that.

  • well if you look at WW2 propaganda posters you can see what Jap meant, and typical, Jap is only used by people who have an extream hatred for Japan and Japanese people Why is Nigger so offensive in America but black Americans say all the time anyway, isn't just a word for someone who comes from Niger?

  • Nigger has been used as a slur for a long time. Jap is not used as a slur EVER. If an American wanted to insult you they would not call you a Jap. I will refrain from telling you what they would call you. And nigger comes from the latin root negro or niger. It is an example of a word that originally was not a slur but became one. Jap on the other hand, has not caught on as a slur. The only people who see it as a slur are those who think of WWII posters when they hear the word Jap.

  • it is a slur just the same, its mainly a slur thats used by People who have and extreame hatred fro Japan, the other slur is nip but not used so much today, Like Chinese, Koreans, Austrailians, and Americans on youtube who have a hatred for Japan use Jap for that reason, in the dictionary, Jap : a disparaging term for a person of Japanese decent. WW2 era cartoons were banned from TV because of the use of the word. Why do rappers always say nigger then ?

  • lol

  • And you seem to have the impression that Americans hate Japan. I dont think thats the case. Japan is one of our greatest allies now and most intelligent people have accepted this.

And aside from all of this, everyone is hated by someone. It seems to me the whole world hates Americans, but I dont care. We are one of the strongest, wealthiest, and most developed countries in the world and Japan is right up there with us. Why would you let a silly word get to you like that?

  • I don't think all Americans hate Japan, I have a few friends who live in America, but I encounter alot of anti-Japanese Americans when I want to watch a video about the Zerosen or something in the WW2 Japanese catagory. However I don't know about others, every Australian I have seen on youtube Hates Japanese people, I have no idea what a normal Austrailian is like. The word feels me with Anger because I know what it really means, Jap and nip are the two slurs that are aimed at Japanese people.

  • @Akirameerkat austalian hates the jap because the australians was treated very badly at the pow camp...my country Philippines was invade as well by the japanese ,

if im alive those days I will not hate the japanese because we are both asians,as you could see it now all moderne technologies are made in Japan...

  • @slazzer145 , Well I have seen some pictures of Austrailian Police cars, and I see they use Mitsubishi Lancer Police cars, if the whole country hated the island nation, then their law enforcement vehicles wouldn't be Japanese, they would only use crown vics , I don't know what Philippine Police use for vehicles though

  • @Akirameerkat phil police cars all are made in japan...as well as computers HD tv,video cam, nikon ,etc etc ...

  • @Akirameerkat The problem I have with the Japanese is that as a whole they do not admit their war crimes of WW2. The Rape of Nanking, Battan death march, Beheading of POWs and Unit 731 were as bad as the Nazis.

In school I was taught only about the "bad' things the US did. It was not untill later that I learned about Japans atrocitys. Many Japanese consider themselves the victims.

  • @aqinthe trust me, we know..too bad China doesn't admit theirs, at least we don't censor the internet like they do. besides, most Japanese teens don't care about the ancient past, all they care about is meeting girls and making out and having fun, I'm one of the few people who dwells on the past to the point where it causes health problems.

  • @Akirameerkat I assume you are Japanese. I no not hate all Japanese I just think there is a disparity between what they did in WW2 and how they are remembered. In school we were only taught about what the US did to Japan not any of Japans war crimes.

Believe me I know that the Chinese are no saints either. There human rights record is a bad Joke.

Why do you dwell on the past? What do you dwell on? Comment on my channel or sent me a Priv. Message if you want.

  • @Akirameerkat no offense to you or anyone whats so ever but you know australians and british are pretty much the hateful people on the planet. they have no care or respects to anyone or from any place.

im spanish and they dont like us and we really dont like them either. only some that are respectful and are neutral with manners. but everyone should get along now,60 years is in the past, the future is right here. we all should tend to enjoy what is in front of us now than whats behind.

  • @Akirameerkat yea those terms r racist theres this racist teacher at my school tht gives this japanese american kid like 4x more homework to do then us i offered to do it fore him so i did and now we r gr8 friends

  • @Akirameerkat Virtually all America is negligent on the history of Japan prior to WW2(Meiji,Meiji Restoration,Taisho Periods). We Americans are taught a distorted view of Japanese intentions during these years. We(and most other countries)cling to this idea that the "Japs" were a bunch of squinty eyed, sword yielding, emaciated savages, hell bent on conquering the world.Because they lost the war, their true history goes untold.

  • @Akirameerkat Ohio, Australians dont hate Japanese. In fact Australia with America, helped build up Japan after WW2. Japan is one of our greatest trading Partners. But please dont forget history. Japan INVADED Australia..Wanted to take the land for themselves, Japan bombed Darwin, Broome and sent mini subs into Sydney Harbour..We didnt invade Japan!! The Term Jap and Nip is American, Jap for Japanese, Nip for Nipon. Dont forget, the Japanese call Whites..Gaijin!! :0. I Love Nihonjin Girls.

  • @kramrollin69

Japan attacked Australia mainly because she believed Australia might be used as a base for the counterattack.

Also, gaijin/gaikokujin refers to all foreigners, not just whites. And it`s not derogatory terms. Gaijin is a short term for gaikokujin, like yank for yankee. :)

  • @Akirameerkat Hate, ! 70 years ago. wars over.

  • @terryjohn tell that to all the anti-japanese people on these ww2 related videos.

  • @Akirameerkat well it his over, 70 years, the War, I ride a Jap bike. have Jap radios etc.

if you break a glass, you cant make it the same after. Peace.Love.heals many scars.

  • @terryjohn , If you like japanese, then stop saying Jap

  • @Akirameerkat why. its not offencive. a german called me recently, tommy.I had no problem.same as i called a American, a yank..please,let the war, go and everybody.

  • @terryjohn if you don't thibk its offenceive, then look it up in a dictionary, and look at the WW2 propaganda, and the comments of anti-japanese people, I classify the word Jap, like nigger, spick, kike, too me, its the same type of word.

  • @Akirameerkat if you complain, then you will get annoyed,I like all Jap.ok Japanease pilots..Sakai. the devil. i like american bob johnson.bud anderson.

    all nations.
