i met karl sanders after a nile gig on the 22/09/2008 when they was supported by grave and belphegor at wulfrun hall in wolverhampton, england.we had a good chat about his solo project. he is one cool dude!!!!!!
This song is extremely hard for three reasons: one, simply because it uses very strange rhythms, second, because Karl has to be extremely careful about playing it, since if he puts his fingers even slightly off, the song would sound horrible, since he's using a fretless. Last, it's because the slow tempos make everything more audible, so it has to be that much more accurate when it's played.
@krakhaid I agree on reason one and the last one, but not the second one. Playing fretless isn't that hard. You get used to it. And Karl Sanders is a great strings musician, so getting used to fretless should not be a problem for him.
@Thundermaned I'm not saying he's a bad guitarist, far from it, merely that because when you're playing a fretless instrument, you have to be a lot more careful than when you're playing a fretted instrument, since finger position matters a lot more. I've played a lot of fretless instruments, and they're not super hard, but you do have to be careful.
@krakhaid Lol it's funny to see how you switch from "extremely careful" to "a lot more careful" to "they're not super hard, but you do have to be careful".
So which one is it? Do you have to be really careful? Not careful at all? I don't think it has anything to do with "careful". You just have to practice fretless enough, just as you would practice with fretted. The transistion from fretted to fretless wasn't all that hard for me. But that's my experience. I bet it won't be hard for Karl.
@RikkudoSennin the intro is actually very difficult to play. its very slow and its why its hard. extremely slow things are difficult believe it or not. its hard to time them right.
@Tb0neZ5 I don't think the fact its slow that makes it hard. I think its because Karl has a fretless eleven string guitar down tuned to A and the rest a standard tuning. While Dallas, has to make due with a six string, fretted guitar, with a whammy bar. ;O
Fucking shivers!!!!!!!!!!!!
