Jessica's record as oldest winner is in serious jeopardy- both Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow could break her record. I think Christopher Plummer has a serious chance to win.
I can't believe all of the comments on this video are praising everyone but Jessica Tandy (even Gregory Peck?). I think her Oscar was well-deserved and that Tandy is a genius!
One of the most talented American actresses to ever grace the stage and appear on film..brilliant performance and well deserved Oscar. The give and take between Mr. Freeman and Ms. Tandy pulled at my heart and mind throughout the film..both top notch award winning actors. May she rest peace and thank you Ms. Tandy for your work. God Bless.
@txladyification uhm, sorry, i think she's english. although you're right, she had emense success of the american stage and screen. LOL the origional Blanche Dubois.
@theballer04 Yes Atticus/Gregory Peck the best! Speaking of great actors, and albeit I agree Jessica Tandy was wonderful and deserved the award for her work here, but I ALWAYS felt since this movie first began filming in the late 80's that the perfect actress for the role would have been Audrey Hepburn, in a great come back role and performance. As we know she died 3 years later in eary 1993 but she could have done this film in '88/'89 and I bet would have gotten many awards. Just a thought.
@KrueMann1992 I disagree, Jessica Tandy was amazing, sadly she dies four years later. she will never be forgotten and this performance did her and the Oscars justice.
Jessica Tandy was delivered a great performance in ''Driving Miss Daisy''! I was so happy she won and now she's a legend as the oldest Oscar winning actress at the age of 80. But I think is should have been a tie between her and Michelle Pfeiffer. Her performance in the Fabulous Baker Boys was incredible as well. Michelle needs to win an Oscar she deserves one!
Tender story. Great photography and brilliant music. My favourite picture is when camera is on the tyre ( when she wants to go to grocery ), car moves off and the main music theme starts.
I was lucky enough to have seen her in The Gin Game and Glass Menagerie on Bway. But my greatest theatre moment ever was at a memorial service for Tennessee Williams at the Shubert Theatre in NY where Jessica Tandy lost 30 yrs. in a split second and became Blanche Dubois delivering a monologue from Streetcar. The only true spontaneous standing ovation I have ever witnessed occured the split second she finished! Truly amazing!
How weird I was just thinking about this today and here it is. I'm so glad Jessica won for her role. She was one of the most deserving Best Actress winners ever. I wish the Oscars had done this for Gloria Stuart and Imelda Staunton.
Has anyone taken a look at the girl who hands over the Oscar to Gregory Peck? Talk about late 80s-early 90s hairdo...Brilliant performance by Jessica Tandy; I preferred Pauline Collins or Michelle Pfeiffer (whom I stopped liking as an actress quite some time ago), but this was a good winner. Isabelle Adjani and Jessica Lange also gave very good performances.
Oh god, my heart weights heavy for the magnificent Pfeiffer. Not since Garbo has an actress so beautiful been so BRILLIANT in Hollywood. This was a travesty.
I prefered Michelle Pfeiffer myself & Pauline Collins had me laughing all the way through Shirley Valentine, so either of these I would have wanted. Ms Tandy got the lifelong career vote.
Tandy was excellent and moving, BUT Michelle Pfeiffer was robbed, as she deserved to win this hands down. She gave her greatest performance. Jessica should've won for Fried Green Tomatoes.
I love the fact that right after Jessica Tandy's name was called, Morgan Freeman helped her up the stage like a true gentleman. That man is a true class act.
I'd love it if you guys could put Gregory Peck's Oscar victory speech for "To Kill a Mockingbird". So Oscars, when you're doing your next batch of uploads, could you try to keep that in mind?

@EricAKATheBelgianGuy I thought Gloria Stuart already shattered that record when she was nominated at 87 for TITANIC.

Never mind Gloria Stuart is the oldest nominated. If Plummer wins he'll be the oldest winner. He's 82 and Tandy was 80 here.
