The drivers are heavily involved in the design of their steering wheels!
Mika drove with this design for several years, while Coulthards was very different!
Each driver has his own preferences in terms of placement of the buttons, the size off the wheel, and with the huge loads on the drivers hands the right grip size and ergonomics is as important at it is totally individual!
Another example is Senna who wanted a very large rounded wheel, even when smaller hightech wheels began to emerge!

Hakkinen seemed to never be great racing in Italy. His best outing there was in 2000 when we was beaten outright by Schumacher and his Ferrari.
