  • I followed this video perfect but my laser is really weak. It shines but barely. And cant even light a match. Any help?

  • I followed this video perfect but my laser came out really weak. It shines but not bright and cant even light a match. Any help?

  • how much would you sell this lazer for

  • @austin12sledge he dosent sell dem

  • Can someone tell me how hot this laser can get in Kelvin? I want to make sure it's not too powerful to use, because I'm only 15. I understand the electromagnetic spectrum and why violet lasers are so powerful. Maybe a green laser would be best? I only want to light matches, not hurt anyone.

  • can you power these laser that you build yourself with batterys? I want to build one of them but i dont want to have to have it like plugged in.

  • @die4alife Not at high power. It'd go through batteries like crazy if you tried to.

  • very good, thanks, the video is too clear,i will do,

  • What is the most powerful object/material the laser can burn? I want to make one that is near weapons grade, if that is physically possible.

  • @GDuff123 Around7kW is the most powerful cutting laser now, and that'd be weapons grade. Problem is, it's industrial, so it takes up as much room as a small house.

Handheld, 2mW is about as powerful as you can get handheld, and that's nowhere near powerful enough to be used as a practical weapon.

It'd probably work its way through hdpe, pet, and most malleable plastics, acryllic might take a while, and is more likely to melt, rather than be cut, and it will engrave, but not cut, wood.

  • @crampets2011 I hope you mean MEGAwatts.

There is actually laser gun someone made that is pistol sized that fires out a megawatt of power - 1000 WATTS! Also, he made a puny little glove shooting 3 watts out of each 3 diodes. Yep, 3 watts per each diode.

  • Could I use 3 aaa battery instead?

  • @ccarazay Laser diodes typically have a voltage drop of around 5 -6 volts, so 3 AAA = 4.5 volts, not enough.

  • Ok, I must have screwed up here. I did everything this video said to do. But the power on it is probably just under 35mw. I'm running it on a 405nm 2.8-4.2v 400mA driver with 2 AAA's. Any one have an idea of what's wrong with it???

  • @MrMeat42 And do the diodes have anything to do with it? Because I'm wondering if the probable 10mw diode my dad made me use is a factor

  • @MrMeat42 If you ran it at 400 mA you killed your diode...

  • @TheOnedeadguy well yea, but why wasn't I able to get it up to a high power before killing it? It didn't even get bright

  • @MrMeat42 What variables were you toying with? Circuit resistance, current, or voltage?

  • @crampets2011 All I did was turn up the potentiometer until it got close to shutting off. Actually, i screwed up yet another laser, and I believe that the problem was that I touched the electornics while it was running. But that still doesn't explain why I wasn't able to get up to at least 100mw in the first place.. unless that circuit board was a cheap chinese piece of crap. I have 1 more driver. I'll see what it does with a hi-quality diode

  • Circuit borad.

  • you can't take legal actions your making an illegal laser pointer fuck head

  • @thednk1000 No, I hate people who are just dumb, It's illegal to BUY lasers over 5mW's, to make them, it doesn't matter. I don't get people who just go off without even thinking to check if there right, idiots.

  • 2:14 until the end of the vid i dont understand please pm or reply

    SOS

  • Do you believe this could cut through a standard zip tie?

  • lol my name is drake too

  • plz reply, how do u make the beam more concentrated? thx

  • Why do you put the lens in the back of it behind the spring? Is it even needed?

  • @MrMeat42 well, without the spring if you ever wanted topull the lens out it would be stuck without the spring...

  • whats the lowest power but you can still see the laser like as a line?

  • @Fewstanator 1-5-10mW's of green in the dark/at night should work well. I have a 5mW green laser and it works very well at night.

  • @Fewstanator

About 15mW at night, or 35mW during the day, or if you have a fog machine you could even use a 5mW laser to make the beam show.

  • @Fewstanator 5mW plus at night, at day time 500mW plus

  • @Fewstanator >=5mW green @ night.

  • geeeetttt tthhheeee SPARTAN LASER

  • LOL I can Burn Down anything with just a flash light..... AND AFTER EFFECTS.. Trololol

  • What is the total cost of this project?

  • @Squirt4757 i would say $22

  • Another impressive laser build

  • Are laser Goggles basicly just sunglasses?

  • @derekjonhi

From my understanding, different wavelengths and different power outputs need different glasses. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure at least on of those has to do with it or else they'd just tell you to buy sunglasses.

  • @inverseactuality diffrent wavelenghts need diffrent safety glasses.

Example; there is safety glasses that block 190-540nm, so it blocks violet 405nm, blue 445, and green, 532.

    Hope you got it :)

  • @derekjonhi not at all, you will go blind if you don't use them and you even just USE a higher powered one,

  • @derekjonhi No, I'm gonna make a video on this soon, It slightly helps because it is near uv but with a laser that could blind you it won't make enough of a difference to keep you safe :-)

  • Could i use a diode from a xbox 360 HD DVD instead of buying a diode? could i use the same parts required in this build?

  • @TheSheeppard yes, PHR-803T sled is from xbox :)

  • I know what happens if you look at the laser but what would happen if you shined one of them on somebody's skin? Would sunglasses prevent eye damage?

This is cool. Now I want to build a bunch of them out of all the junk disk drives I have.

  • would a normal xbox laser work?

  • @gravedigr12 yep.

  • Science fair here I come

  • @styropyro when you tightened the vice shouldn't it have broken off the pins? Or did you do it another way because I don't wanna make that mistake with mine :P

  • @styropyro would 2 D batteries work please tell me

  • Thanks

  • is there any way to do put the diode in the axiz without a vise?

  • can i make one out of a dvd player?

  • @MrScoober2 no only 10mw this about 200

  • @MrScoober2 no......

  • can u make me one please?

  • i dont want to broke my xbox -.-

  • @kristiancavistany brake, and you can buy the sled for 10 bucks

  • @Themandudebro227 ohhh ok tnx where can i buy it???

  • @kristiancavistany i can't send the link in the chat for some reason but i'll send it to you over private message. ok?

  • @Themandudebro227 break*

  • @kingoftaurus thanks!

  • @Themandudebro227 np bro lol.

  • Hey dude, I think lasers are cool and all but I would get those shitty lasers from ebay for 6 dollars and potmod them then break them, Anyways I was wondering if you could have a video on a video for a green laser build that would be visible in light/ish something not too strong but would be pretty cool to look at, I mean I don't wanna wear goggles and have them just hide the nice green beam ;/ well this is starting to sound impossible but I wanna build a cheapy green laser that will look cool.

  • @R2Processor well, um i'm not styropyro but i just wanna tell you that making a green laser will be really tough, you would need help from someone like my or drake, if you wanted you can buy a $20 green laser module that puts out around 40-50mW. and that would be able to pop baloons, and you wouldn't need googles

  • *me

  • How is the old video outdated? God update again?

  • By can I use a PS3,GameCube or CdPlayers diode please reply

  • its actually a lot easier than you think

  • if this video was a lot easier people would do it but i liked it kinda

  • can i use my old ps3 diode?

  • Can I use a Li-ion 18650 to power up this diode? I want to put it in a host that uses a 18650 and want to know if thats going to work. Thank you

  • wt is is that ext chip u used in there

  • mdr je vais pas sacrifier ma xbox360 pour un laser de bebe

  • i literally have none of those things.

  • Geez, I don't have a single one of those things :D

  • yeh , cos everyone has those materials in their house just lying around.......

  • @TheRosindalePed0 oh shut up, jeese, your spossed to order it, ond by the way, i do!

    mohaha

  • Geez, these RadioShack ads are getting annoying.

  • Can it burn paper? Because that would be a neat trick in schoo-I mean...in your house...

  • @lipnoodle117 heheh, use it on school when doing a test, go point on friend paper lol

  • @lipnoodle117 i would burn down the school

  • @lipnoodle117 you house, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight ;)

  • @lipnoodle117

No you would need more power.

  • In a Australia this laser would be a classed as a controlled weapon. Anyone making one would be breaking the law. It is powerful enough to do serious irreversible eye damage.

    It's still cool though.

  • I need to subscribe how do I subscribe DAMMIT HOW! ! ! ! !

  • Hey can I use a xbox360 elite diode for that project

  • i love watching videos like this, it makes me feel clever :L

  • sure dude im totally gonna rip my xbox in pieces to get some laser parts

  • its awesome !! realy !!!!!

  • Thumbs up i give you credit.Nice job =]

  • You sir, Are Quite the Engineer!

  • you need the module to focus the beam and protect the diode

  • All three Pins are used! The Common Pin (Housing of Laserdiode) is Anode from Laser Diode and Kathode from Monitor Diode!. The Monitor Diode is for Output Power measurement to control the Output Power with a Laser-Diode-Driver.

(Sorry for my english - I'm from Germany)

  • can u use a ps2 laser lens???

  • what is the purpose of the aixiz module and what does it do /why i need it?

  • As soon as i saw XBOX360 i completely clicked of the video...

  • What is the mW on the PHR diode?

  • Comment removed

  • lol buy a laser if you are gonna go through the trouble of buying a 13$ driver and housing for it haahaha

  • im complaining and you cant stop me!! :)

  • im going to make it i found all the parts and its cheap awesome!

  • *_*

  • Thumbs Up if u have the parts needed for the laser and you'll make one if it is not so difficult *_*

  • Can we pimp out a laser from an old cd player. That would be nice

  • what happens wen you touch the litle lens

  • @24kayleb If it's like an HID headlight bulb for a car, what happens is something like this: You touch it, and oil from your skin is transferred to the glass. This will actually etch itself in the material, and when heat gets applied, it will likely bubble and crack.

  • 1:36 YATATATATATATATATATATATATATA

  • what type of 'lead' is coming out of the module? I am trying to help my 13 year old son put all this together, and certain things (like the leads, and wire, etc.) seem to go kinda fast for us. Could someone (preferably styropyro) help us out here with a little more detail? these things seem to fall thru the cracks. maybe everybody knows 'em, but we don't! got all the 'parts' from from the youtube vid on building from used computer parts, and driver and module will arrive any day. thanks.

  • @oisaumsg sorry im not styro but i do know about electronics but mabye the written instructions will help? and you might want to get the exact same parts!

written instructions-ht tp: // styropyro (dot) com / tutorials / violetmodule (dot) htm

    only without spaces

  • im trying to make one and i bought the wrong groove 2 driver that was not preset

will it work? if so can you tell me what connections from the power supply and driver go?

  • At about 7 seconds I can't see what it says because the comments are in the way

  • @hippyharrison you are not meant to the link in the comment that appears is a new link which should be used instead of the one under the comment.

  • 0:34 SMILEY FACE!!!!

  • so can i buy kits or somethin instead of trying to track down all the parts?

  • Annotation at 3:03 : Why would people complain about THAT?

Thanks for the warnings. Nearly became blind.

  • can you send me the link where you got your soldering gun? PLEASE!

AND GUYS PLEASE THUMBS UP I REALLY WANNA KNOW

  • What battery can u best use for it ?

  • Um, so I solder the what to the where and why? Thanks high school, im retarded.

  • Solder / Soldering wire... whatever. Same thing. The vice gives better control over the amount of pressure applied. It's ok to solder the tip of your iron, that's called tinning the tip. Also, it's important to use rosin-core solder because the rosin is a weak acid that removes oxidation. Solder cannot chemically bond to oxidized metal, and putting solder on the tip burns up the rosin so you should apply solder and heat at separate (though very close) locations. That way the rosin can work.

  • is it possible i can somehow make a laser, and imbed it to the tip of my dick?

  • @AngryAtTechnology75 That wasn't funny.

  • @12Insomniac wasnt meant to be.. just like your looks arent meant to be funny either..

  • @AngryAtTechnology75 :P I didn't mean to start a fight, why do people have to be so profane and mean?

  • i'm a thieft... but only stoled your credit card. so no problem. right?

  • where did u get the ld drive??

  • thats cool, I dont think ill ever make one though.

  • hey can i use ps1 laser

  • @HergotH01 you are a fag.

  • @Guitarfiend11 This works because I got lucky? What about my other videos, luck too? I made this video when I was 15, and even nearly 3 years later I haven't came across a better way to make a cheap DIY laser on YouTube. I'd like to see you attempt to make a video of the "correct" way, jackass.

  • @styropyro I'm not talking about what you're doing, I'm talking about the way you're doing it. You're giving very poor electrical instructions, perhaps you should consider re-reading what I wrote. I don't care about your laser, I care about people being exposed to electrically reckless demonstration.

  • @Guitarfiend11 ;;; its "soldering wire" like he said,, just "solder" means same as just a "human" be used for u for which i am not sure that u r one. u r just jealous coz u can never made a video for youtube.. i like the way styropyro is doing his work, u better go n have a long sleep

  • @Guitarfiend11 Well then sit down shut up and show us how to do it rightif ur so smart

  • @styropyro haha you just pwned him XD love your videos bro

  • @styropyro im just trying to make a laser from a separate diode for about 300mw i got online, a driver for between 100 and 500mw, i also got online, and a common 5mw green laser i di, yet again, get online. now ive found a few different sources. one says the case pin is negative, yers says its not used. ive tried youre way and ended up with a laser that doesnt work. i have another set. now what? i cant go wasting money to find out which is better can i? u sure yer diagram is correct?

  • @styropyro There is some easier ways, though your laser won't be high powered.

  • @styropyro good tut, i just ripped him apart more than you did, but i dont recoment a soldering gun i recoment a iron.. less heat, :D

  • @Guitarfiend11 turd nugget go eat da poo poo. that is all

  • @Guitarfiend11 : You just toataly Got Owned!

    @styropyro : Great Zinger

  • @Guitarfiend11 your just mad because you probebly broke your xbox and laser for this. and dont waist your time writing a huge comment no ones gonna see for all the thumbs down you get.

  • @Guitarfiend11 just fuck you

  • @Guitarfiend11 yeah man i totally agree with you. he's probable just some mexican nigger

  • @Guitarfiend11 rofl idiot trying to be fucking elite by saying hurr durr its not solder wire its solder...

  • @maximilli111 Go get a job with that attitude.

  • @Guitarfiend11 How am I going to get a job when I'm just 15 years old?

  • @Guitarfiend11 chill out ffs

  • @Guitarfiend11 So I am assuming your young and quite uneducated.

Firstly "electronic boards" which sounds stupider every time i hear it... "PCB, Circuit board" either of those are much more accurate.

But ontop of that, He dosnt "snap" anything off of the pcb, he rips the no longer needed ribbon from the useless chassis. Secondly the blob of solder on the tip of the soldering iron was NOT for soldering... its simply another contact to help melt the solder holding the ribbon to the diodes pins.

  • @kriogenic well snobidy snob snob. u did understand what he meant right? that was the point was it not? i can tell u for sure, i definitely wouldnt take the time to go study the names of each part when i could be making a freeking burning laser and when i could be burning the crap out of everything around. not a suggestion, just my opinion, but i think u should grow up and stop missing the big picture. a name is to identify. if u identify something without its name, youve accomplished your goal.

  • @Guitarfiend11 So we need a vice to snap things off now? ha ha, no. Dude, soldering wire or solder, it dosent matter, i can call you a human or a humanoid biped, oh well. Cold joints from a blob of solder... You clearly NEVER soldered in your life, i use that method alot to get good caps from PSUS, and to restore them. never cold joints on me, just remove the excess AFTER. So GTFO with you shitty 5wat soldering iron and fail skills

  • bought the module, and found a dvd burner that wasnt in use anymore for the diode, and am making my own driver! can't wait for the finished result!

  • Thank you sir. very helpful in a project i'm just recently starting.

  • If u make one for me i will buy it

  • the only thing styropyro can't do with lasers is make a yellow one. =(

  • who would break an xbox thats like smashing a diamond with a hammer

  • YOU SUCK I BURNED MY HOUSE DOWN

  • So the driver will connect to a xbox DVD diode??

  • I'm currently getting the materials required to make this sweet laser but I have a question: which laser safety goggles would you recommend I buy for use with this laser? I'm sure some that protect against 405nm wavelengths would do, but which manufacturer is better?

  • @MagnaZeroX put it this way, i bought laser goggles off ebay which were cheap, and they worked great with my 400mw blu ray lmao!

  • Hey, I currently have a rckstr laser driver set to 105ma. I am trying to make a burning laser pointer (just for fun) with a 405nm 150mW blu-ray laser diode. Using a 9v battery I have gone through 3 laser diodes so far! I am completely stumped on why these are breaking. Everything is connected to the right ports and there are no shorts. I am giving this one more try but need to be certain it will work. Am I doing anything wrong?

  • you shold make a vid on all ur lasers all of them..........

  • Can u put all 3 pins on the driver circuit ?

  • Can u put all 3 pins on the driver circuit ?

  • thumbs up man! It works but the focusing is a bit off...

  • @ice0ver edit: got it working an popping baloons!

  • why waist a xbox???????

  • the process looks like: making iron mans generator

  • Hi, great video! I just have a question, I got the laser but on the backside of it there are 4 pins in a row and i wonder which of these pins i should solder the 100mA driver too

  • can you make star wars light sabers that can cut through anyhtingg ext?

  • @the7ronin not necessarily... you can make a laser that cuts through anything, but virtually nothing can restrict it to only a meter, it would be continuous.

  • why would you need to light a match with a laser?

  • Will this work with any old blueray laser diode? As in, can I use the laser driver from a 5mw Laser pen and solder the blueray laser diode onto the driver?

  • You should embed your name in the total length of your video, in the corner away from the main substance of the video, that way no one can steal your vid, if they do, credits go to you. The place you placed your credentials (at the end) can easily be edited out. Just saying.
