The only similarity to Family Guy is that they ripped off this show as well as the Simpsons. I'd say this is much more comparable to Animaniacs for adults.
the alien parody was stolen by the simpsons in that episode with sarah silverman. at least the critic managed to bow out gracefully before their show became shit (sorry, it happens to every show)
The Critic used an overbearing amount of pop-culture references but that's because the theme of the show was to poke fun at Hollywood's recycling of unoriginal ideas. It also did the cutaway gag thing way before Family Guy and did it while maintaining a better sense of coherence.
I don't even know how people could compare this to Family Guy. For one, this came out years before the show was even fully realized in Seth's head, not to mention the complete difference in their styles. True, Critic had something like cutaways, but they were always the same topic (something movie related) where Family Guy will just throw whatever is amusing at the moment (or not, depending on how much you like their dark sense of humor).
While I do like Family Guy, Critic will always be best
Wow i havent watched this show in so long it is similar to Family guy's first 3 Seasons, but of course this show came first and family guy is now crap
@Ajapam34 They used the main character of The Critic on the Simpsons, he made a full guest appearance and then at least one cameo after that. Matt Groening asked his name to be taken off the episode in question partly because he thought people might think he had something to do with the show.
You know what? They should keep this show! Or revive it! I mean, it could be about what's on TV or what movies are out, etc. I quote Siskel and Ebert "Focus on the movies!". I mean, the same company that made the Simpsons also made this show. I mean, think about it, two shows from the same company: One focusing on a dysfunctional family (Simpsons), and one focusing on the media (Critic). That would be nice! But Family Guy focuses on both, which doesn't seem right to me. =(
It's actually not the rabbis who circumcise children, but the mohels. Doesn't detract from this being one of the greatest moments in television history.
I'm so pissed this show was cancelled. Nowadays people wouldn't know great tv if it bit them in the ass!. All I can say is thank god for the dvd box set. The first time I watched this show I almost wet myself laughing.
Family Guy is very underrated. The latter episodes provide some actual intelligent comedy.
