Before the fall her, she looked like she was doing pretty well. Did the horse have any injuries? He looked like he was stepping short in the back, but that's probably just my imagination xD
Guys she is an AMAZING Rider there is a reason why she did so well the Horse didnt need to go fast because of its Stride and it is hard to See what happened, but she stayed the same pace the whole time so, dont critique
she had no power or impulsion going into that bounce that was a very honest horse that tried to make the distance (see how she threw her body at it a stride away??) you just cannot have errors at that level! thank goodness they were both fine!
Errors at ANY level are bound to happen. I highly doubt she would be at this level of competition if she didn't do something right. Everyone makes mistakes and miscalculates distances. Every horse has an off day (Beezie Madden falling off at Syracuse for example). Mistakes are bound to happy, regardless of whether it's upper level or not.
@saint925 her horse just slowed when he jumped over the first jump because as a jumper he jumps round and slows over the jumps. She just needed to land with more leg but she and her horse both made solid efforts to get over the jump. And she didn't necessarily throw her arms (she gave) but she definitely held her body. It was a stride away because its a ONE stride and she was encouraging him to reach. You have errors at every level you should know that and if you don't that's an error in itself.
She got really deep coming into the combination which made the one stride end up being really long. The horse was flat and couldn't rock back on his hind end to get over it so he hesitated and pretty much fell through it....
getting deep doesnt make your horse flat getting long does. Being deep makes it harder for the horse to the clear the jump and as you said lose momentum. I guess it wasnt that deep but it was a shorter distance making the one stride too long and as I said before the horse didnt rock back on his hind end and get over the second jump.
@itscamilleyo except of everything the other people say which I totally agree with if u replay it a couple of times you'll see that at the last jump she was leaning forward and was unbalanced so the horse couldn't take off. Well that's my opinion, I'm not a horse expert or anything so please don't start fighting with me if what I say is wrong.
I was there and when it happened we were like WTF?!?!?!?!?! That night was intense! Like 3 ppl fell off, Margie Engle, Natalie Johnson, and that Russian Olympist. Georgina Bloomberg retired herself that night too, after like 12 faults. Thats the best route to go, instead of putting un-needed strain on the horse.
Whoa, impressive fall! I'm glad the pole didn't land on her after it stood up like that. That was some nice riding before that...and it definitely wasn't her fault.
She seemed like a very good rider. She probably could be a little more in tune with her horse, and have raised her hands a bit, but other than that...excellent!!!
natalie is 22 years old and she is trained by one of the best trainers in the country. dont judge based on one mistake. olympian margie engle also fell off in this grand prix. it was clearly a very difficult course
its looks like the horse started to limp away?....

neither of them saw a spot and she panicked, pulled on his face and at the very last second he decided to go over it. it happens to everyone.

Natalie Johnson is one of my favorite riders. She is an amazing rider. I truly believe she should have won the maclay.
