i dont think autechre codes live... they might though. On their last tour they were using primarily MIDI and hardware DSP boxes [specifically, the monomachine and machinedrum from elektron inc. alongside various nord boxes from Clavia]. This is perhaps a little too gimmicky, but i'm sure it wowed those there with enough knowledge to know what they were seeing.
It also wowed Wired magazine enough to write an article about it:

no it's one of those "you have to have at least some idea of what you're watching" things! The point is the music is being generated and warped by Perl code. The experimental use of programming languages to create something artistic is very impressive to someone who is in to coding, especialy something that seems to semi automaticaly evolve like this.
