It is not an easy choice, but I feel that Shaq was a bigger nightmare to go against in his prime over Kareem. Not saying that Kareem was a tough matchup, but Shaq is >300 lbs. Thats a lot of weight to match up with.

kobe over jerry. love the logo, but Kobe got more rings, and has played more games with the lakers. Jerry had as many oppurtunities to win championships as kobe, but only took home one ring. He also lost to the celtics six times too many.

I think Jerry fared pretty well when Celtics had Bill Russel, John Havlicek, and Sam Jones.
From what I read, Lakers had weak center back then.
I imagine it's hard to find good center because NBA wasn't profitable back then.
I'd put Jerry on starting SG for being hell of a good SG, GM for the Lakers.
Although he lost many to Celtics, you still can't forget about the fact that Jerry deserves credit for the 3peat championships for the Lakers.

Let's get a few things straight. I think the respect for older players has gone too far. All the picks are right, except I think that if Kobe played Jerry, he would kill him. Look away from the stats and you'll see this is tough. I don't blame C-Webb. This is probably the greatest basketball franchise ever. If you look at his Fab 5 on Memphis it's disgraceful. OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, but the 6th man was GM Jerry West. How sad is that?

kobe is just right at the sixth man - he was a near-perfect 6th man on a great showtime lakers where he regularly contributed, the thing is while kobe has moved on and up , he is playing with legends here, hence i agree that he is a perfect 6th man on this all-lakers team....

I disagree. Kobes been a starter since he was 18 and made his all star debut in 98,when he was just 19. The guy put up 81 in a game also. Kobe is by far the best player since MJ, not even LeBron can touch him. Jerry West was amazing,no doubt. But if i was forced to pick between Jerry and Kobe...theres only 1 winner. Kobe everytime

Give me a reason why Lebron, Dwade or even tmac (before injuries) can't be considered at the same level if not better then kobe.
Kobe may have put up alot of 60, 40 and even one 80 point game. But the guy averages 25 for his career.
Wilt put up 100, that doesn't make him better then kareem, shaq or even Hakeem Olajuwon.

Well actually there is arguments.
First. Dirk only shot 170 3 point shots this season compared to Kobe who shot 336 to be exact.
Second. Larry Bird won 3 3 point shoot outs and hes not a 3 point man hes a shooter. The greatest of all time to be exact.
Dirk is a shooter and if hes not shooting from outside the arc or driving to the hole to dunk like Kobe he must be shooting from mid range.
So he shoots from mid range and he has a better percentage therefore better mid range shooter.

He played in a time with different rules, tall players were allowed to dominate, and he was by far the tallest player in the NBA. In the NBA today, he would be no better than Yao or Howard, While Kareem today would STILL be the best.
Oh, and Bill Russel DOMINATED Russel everytime they played. The one player close to him i height outplayed him every single time.

The point is, he ONLY dominated because of is height, not his skill.
Also, if he played today, he wouldn't dominate. If kareem played back then, he would dominate even more.
You can't say he's the best player ever just because of his advantage during his era. He's simply not the best. He just got lucky to play at a time he could dominate.

For starters, yes they are tall However, the rules have DRASTICALLY changed so you can't dominate like that anymore. That alone just shuts out any argument you have
Secondly. Look at Wilts videos, And then look at Kareems videos. Kareem was FAR more skilled than chamberlain, and he went against players around his height in almost every team. And by the time he came into the NBA, the rules had already changed
