This is bullshit, of course the F-15 rely heavily on a lifting body, its high-altitude performance rely completely on it. As does the F22's. Aerodynamically impossible, for a glider perhaps with a very high aspect ratio. For a low aspect ratio supersonic fighter with a lifting body design, not really impossible. Difficult to land but not impossible, as was proven.
That was frickn wild. Seems the USA builds its fighters like it does its cars, parts may fall off but they keep on going :p reminds me of the p47's that were so shot up they had pistons hanging out of the motor's yet would still make it back to base. same with F4u's. i remember reading about one ww2 piolet that got hit hard by flak in a f4u and it had blown a piston out of the motor and he said after seeing the damage that after it hapend he did not even know the motor was hit lol.
No dude, what your thinking of as laser tag in the sky is what they do at Red flag and other ones with real pilots. The palne he shot down was basically a remote controlled airplane, kinda like a big RC target, that's what happens to some plans that become absolete. i'm sure you've seen American F-15 Eagles shoot down F-4 Phatoms before, which is kinda why they made the LCAT [Low Cost Airal Target] that's how its done.
@EinhanderSn0m4n Are you just trying to show that you can speak english like a gentleman, or is it some other motive i haven't figured yet? It's not to offend you, not at all, it's just half of the guys here won't uderstand a damn thing you are saying, that is, if you keep writing that way, with latin terms like "ad hominem" and stuff like that. Just keep it simple.
What!! I dont understand, as training exercises, they put you in a plane to shoot down another pilot or get shot down yourself!!?? (how does that work!)
No, we do not. Iran is the only nation flying the F-15 and we are shredding all our Eagles out at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. This is to keep any parts out of the hands of Dinnerjacket and his genocidal buddies in Teheran.
what are you smoking!!! we still use the F-15 all the time, mostly the E model. and Israel is like the only other country that uses it besides us. and btw we shreded a few of our B-52's not Eagles.
Lessee here. Broken-record debate tactics, total failure to address even one point of my rebuttal, and obstinant pig-headed racism. Try getting your head out of the local fundie preacher/rabbi/imam/etc's ass and go to School.
LOL. A trolling attempt via racist ad hominem. What an incredibly logically stunning argument you've found for why that F-15 fighter aircraft landed safely despite having its wing shorn off. :P
2-engine planes like these also have lifting surface between the engines because they are "widely" spaced, so, at somewhat high speed flight can be sustained.. but it looks impossible ;P
I saw that on tv and was speachless that the Eagle could sustain thart amount of damage and still recover and fly... the physics he described were right on tho and thanks for the vid... Badass Bro
close... starscream was an F22 Raptor which looks almost the same except it has slanted rear rudders and has an amazing amount of new components that make it stealthy and fast as hell... the look similar but are two entirely different animals
ohhh nooo man the F22 raptor comes out in the LIVE ACTION transformers movie! lol im talking about the F15 eagle starscream from the 80's cartoon series! :)
an airplain engenier sat that if the engine is powerful enought you can fly a cube..hehe...awesome pilot i must say...and a awesome airplain...but what we see in the vid at 2:41 is computeranimated...
its not CGI but they just edited a normal f-15 video so it looks like it h as only 1 wing. in this case the added brightness to the left wing so it wont be vissable.
The lifting body on the F-15 is huge, as he said keep it moving and you can keep it up. Only thing im curious about is if that much fuel is leaking out, how did he return to base? Also the reason for Solo Wing Pixy's name =D
@demonofragriz You do realise that there are fuel tanks in the other wing and in various other places? And the airfield was only 10 miles away, he could have practically gotten there without engines...
If I rememeber right, the A-10 is capable of maintaining air speed and flight with 7ft missing from either wing. My dad knows a guy who use to fly A-10s out of Battle Creek, Michigan that landed an A-10 with no hydraulics and a locked up engine. Crazy shit.
I'm highly suspicious of the accuracy of this, but I have to check some facts(one obvious innaccuracy, the airplane they used stock footage of was an F-100, NOT an A-4, as they stated)
This is not actual footage. This is just a sort of "re-creation" by Modern Marvels to relate the story using footage from several other aircraft. The story its self is intriguing even though the IAF or Boeing has ever actually confirmed it.
Some people just don't know when to restrain themselves from putting fingers to keys, Jeepman. We in the Real World call it various things as 'poor impulse control', but we can just as easily deem it 'rank stupidity'. :D
Not exactly "flying". Aircraft flying at "Knife Edge" are really using the fuselage for small amount of lift, and a lot of momentum and thrust for the rest. It's uncomfortable, uses a lot of fuel, and is not feasible for any distance other than the length of a stunt pass.
Those were F-15E Strike Eagles. The US is not retiring them until well beyond 2020. Its the F-15C eagle thats going to be replaced, but we are still going to keep a few handfuls of F-15Cs while the F-22A takes over the primary air-to-air role
The F22 is garbage. The only thing it's proven is that it's a perfect parallel to the Brewster Buffalo we entered WWII with. We never seem to learn...
well apparently then according to you it seems that 8 packs of flying garbage were able to shoot down 33 F-15s in mock dog fights while the F-15s weren't even able to see the flying garbage, visually, or on radar
Sorry didnt notice this comment. Check the F-22 article on wikipedia, its on there. When you reach the F-22 article press ctrl-f and type in "We killed 33" without the quotation marks and press enter. The source is the USAF itself (wikipedia sites the source on the article).

Incredible! Yep, definitevely the wide body helped to create lift on the right side.
And I don't know why they show footage of an F-100.

I think they run the exercise until one plane has a radar lock on the target, and call that a win. Of course I'm not sure, I've never done it myself.

It is a simulated missile. They are basically playing lazer tag in the sky.
