  • Adam Levine on Drums

  • Since when was Quentin Tarantino a singer?

  • Ah yes, and this is a rather good equation:

    Michael Westen + Fiona Glenanne = <3

  • Guns make you stupid...better to fight your wars with duct tape. Duct tape makes you smart.

  • @7Blacksteel7 lol

  • @mw2Roach1 So says the pilot episode of "Burn Notice".

  • @7Blacksteel7 yea i know

  • loveit!

  • awesome!!

  • Amazing!!!!

  • burn notice <3

  • @mordiFm i love that show

  • watch?v=y7FXEdwbqk0 The House Of Love You Don't Understand

  • A band I wish I had seen as a 20/30something lad about town, NW6 1981-91 and I only have a couple of 12" singles to show for it. An interesting history on wiki, kindof makes me like them all the more.

  • Hey anyone no the tab or chords for this song for the guitar! Any help would be nice Thanks.

  • A criminally underrated band. I started listening to them in 1990---haha during the 1990 World Cup I listened to THOL constantly so whenever a World Cup occurs every four years I'll think about THOL at some point. They had a lot of good songs.

  • @NaseemKO

Idd,I leart to knew them too in the 90's by a friend.I'm still thankfull to him that he gave me their music...

  • remeber an interview with chadwick in mid nineties claming first h.o.love lp was single most inspiration for stone roses debut-remeber a quick comment fromsquire in late 80's mentioning house of love....says it all really..have a nice days folks

  • @ElPayasoloMalo: yes, it is the end theme to Burn Notice

  • God, i loved this band and still do. I was 17 when 'Christine' was a single and nothing has ever touched that early Creation material. Terry Bickers is a great player.

  • why noone I know listen to this kind of music... I'm 18 and I know maybe 1 or 2 people who know this band... I mean come on, this is real music, everyone with a little brain can tell... and not just House of Love... bands like Smiths, Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain... I really hope my next life I'll born in the 60' so I can have friends that understand a little bit about music... sorry for my english I'm from Czech Rep. ;)

  • Excellent upload.

  • burn notice

  • Isn't this the end theme to Burn Notice?

  • @ElPayasoMalo Yeah, but the one in burn notice is a remix

  • Love this song. Always will.

  • burn notice

  • What a great song!

  • Great tune!!!!

    thx for posting!

  • I never got into HOL. But I dug Jesus and Mary Chain.

  • This Album ... what can I say? ... brilliant. If I could I would sneak it into every musically mislead kid's backpack.

  • Brilliant, made my day this thank you....

  • one word and one word only : YEAHHH !!!

  • One of my favourite songs ever !!!!

  • This band had a TON of talent......they left us some great songs, but if things had turned out differently they could have been epic.

  • This album was like part of the whole back drop to 1990 fore me, I loved it!

  • Fuckin tune!

  • This Whole album was awesome. From "Hannah" to "Se' Dest". I listened to this album for a whole year almost everyday. I hear it now and i still am not tired of it.

  • I saw these guys warm up for Peter Murphy at the Palladium on 14th St in NYC on July 18th, 1990. Not sure if they ever came back to the States after that tour.

  • great band. should have blown up. too bad. i'm glad i got a chance to see them at their peak. music was great back then.

  • they are so fucking underrated. taylor swift can suck it.

  • better version for this song by Ivy watch?v=eMvRT1uoBIM&feature=email

  • sorry, you can sendme this video on my mail how much cost send it in cd

  • I like this song, reminds me of my girlfriend lol :-)

  • go guy this song must match up to anyone thinking about there girl

  • I used to love this back in the day. However, if you haven't found any good music since this then you aren't looking hard enough. Be open to it - the alternative music landscape is rich!!!

  • i saw them at legendary ''RODON CLUB'' in Athens , early 90's

  • Is it just me or does Deryck Whibley from Sum 41 look just like this lead singer?

  • @chalklava wooooah he does too

  • what the fuck is a sum 41?

  • @chalklava

Yes. But that's where the resemblance ends--Deryck Whibley has about .0001 percent of the talent Guy Chadwick has. Too bad for Sum 41.

  • I loved this song in SPLENDOR. One of my favorite Greg Araki movies.

  • Don't put the Spice Girls in the same frame of reference - their songs maybe, but id on't think they had anything 2 do with the writing of the songs which they performed.. but the writers had the same idea with the popular chords, yes (not 2 take away from this band i hasten 2 ad!)

  • I love this song!! 5***

  • I don't know how I got to learn about this band, but after I heard them I started buying more and more of their music, 1 or 2 on vinyl, at least one cassette-and the music that doesn't make air play is the best of all.

  • This song is so great, I remember it came on the radio when I was in an '81 VW rabbit, high up on a hill, in a church parking lot, overlooking the vast city lights...with a beautiful, bosomy, pale-skinned brunette with dark eyes, sitting next to me, in the night

I thought this song was by the church

  • @AJtheory Usually you can expect a bunhc of groups with a smilar sounds. But I could not think of anyone else who sounded liek house of love. They were played a lot one sumer. I then went to camp came back and the radio seemed to have dumped them. In the next 20+ years I maybe heard the song once. But Yeah. I think the Church has a certain similar style.

  • @AJtheory What was his name? OHHHHHHHHH....boooyaahhhh.

    Just kiddin'.

  • I see a lot of people saying "this song sounds like so and so other song" the fact of the matter is the chord progression being used is a pretty common one, and chord progressions can't be protected by copyright.

  • This was gonna be my fav song until The Stone roses turned up, Shame.....This band just had bad bad timing, could have been big, really big!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sH'T HAPPENDS THOUGH!!!!!!

  • Completely right, i was there and saw it.

I totally agree about the chord progression too, there are so many popular chord formula's, this uses one. It happens in popular music everyday, did the Sex Pistols copy Elvis? Did the Spice Girls copy the Ramones? They used the same chord progressions, they are just winning formula's its not a case of anyone ripping anyone off.

  • It's just as likely that the Pastels ripped off this. Both released in 1989 and a 2 year delay on the House of Love album for Fontana. Playing this song live in 88 and featured in John Peels festive fifty of 1989. So, no case to answer.

Besides, music has a finite number of notes and combination's thereof. Both good songs

  • Love the lyrics to this one

  • Where are the groups like this now??

its all just so much shite about.

I feel sorry for the kids these days. This was a golden era.

  • A - fucking -men!

  • I tottaly agree with you although if you dig a bit you have followers today in a sense of Editors, White Lies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and so on, not good as this '80s gold but good enough, try those groups...

  • Mate

Im seeing the White Lies tomorrow night at Brixton , so I have to agree with you.

  • I watched Simple Minds few days ago and that brought me back a bit to my childhood years, man those '80s are so infectious.. well have a nice time at the concert!

  • Oh blimey, something wierd going on here..I'm seeing S.Minds with OMD in December......u a mind reader???..lol

  • @wildenfree read alternapop dotcom

  • @wildenfree

search allmusic doctom too for artist you like or liked and see "followers".

The Stone Roses, The Verve, Ride, Oasis, Echo & the Bunnymen, Blur, Cast, U2, The Chameleons UK, Charlatans UK, Catherine Wheel, The Smiths, Radiohead, Doves, Interpol, Dandy Warhols, list goes on and on...

  • @alternapop Nice un..cheers ;-)

  • @wildenfree we were never into crap like this, my favorite bands were playing during this time anyway

  • @wildenfree - dead leaf echo are very similar but not that big at present

  • @wildenfree please. don't feel sorry arrogantly sorry about others taste in music :)

  • @wildenfree Kids do listen to a whole lot of shit these days, worst of all is all that Rap Crap, 99% of the time you cant understand a thing they say lol

  • its a almost cover of THE ONLY ONES, why dont you kill yourself.. (pastels knew that song too..haha) but still a great song..like a train..good voice and he looks like a dutch boxer , pedro v raamsdonk too..

  • i dont think so it dosnt sound the same

  • timeless, at least for me!

  • buenos comienzos de los 90

  • Bloody awesome stuff!

  • The beginning of this song sounds SO much something else, please if anyone knows let me know!!!

  • Sounds like maybe Jesus and The Mary Chain?

  • Thanks but I totally figured it outa few weeks ago... it sounds like the beginning of Midnight Oil's True Country

  • The Pastels ' Nothing To Be Done' !!

Total rip off. Both are great songs though : )

  • it sounds like the beginning to that song by The Pretenders....

  • there's a Pretenders song that starts just like this. forget the name though.

  • Wait, is that nipplage at 1:24 ??

  • Shadow my friend, it was a shadow...

  • Ah, you're right....kill joy... :)

  • Gordon Ramsay was in a band?

  • LOL! You're right, he looks like a young Gordon!

  • OMG yeahh!

  • wow, i've heard this song thousands of times, but have never seen the video before now! i have to say, it sucks royally! Guy's hair and shirt are awful. Why is everyone sitting on barstools? That actor couple was totally cheesy. Great song, crap video. I saw these guys live in Los Angeles in 1990.

  • Well, consider what year this came out - videos more than any other medium show their age.

  • This video is about 20 years old...

    fashions change!

  • good song

  • That shit about Guy Chadwick being related to Gordon Ramsay is some funny stuff. Very nice jurgenphd!!!

  • folks, listen I loved these guys as well. But if you've given up on music since pre-90s have a listen to new stuff from the fall and stephen malkmus. your faith will be restored. Oh yeah have a listen to 'hot chip' they're great as well.

  • Well said! I've uploaded tons of vintage videos to YouTube, but the downside of it does tend to be waking up in the morning to see sour comments such as "Nobody makes music like this anymore - bands these days suck".

Good bands are still out there if you look hard enough (which is pretty easy to do these days anyway with the Internet). Every decade is a good decade for music, even if some decades are better than others for the music industry itself.

  • @23Daves Smog are really good.I think he wasa few years ago know though.Bright eyes are good

  • @Doublegoat1

Indeed! It just takes a bit of scouring and a LOT of trial and error when it comes to buying CDs or records, but the fruit of the labour is always great.

A good example for me, music alike to old post-punk sounding stuff would be Interpol's "Turn on the Bright Lights". Such a fantastic album and it gives you the good sense that musicianship has not been lost, even in popular music!

  • saw these guys open for Peter Murphy back in 1990

  • Sorry beat you all'89 Queens Hall Widnes was my first of third.

  • I saw House of Love live in Swansea in 1990 or 91.. they were great.

  • Is Guy Chadwick related to Gordon Ramsay?

  • The last great band, in my humble opinion

  • man take me back to these days. This band was awesome IS...and the album rocked..... hmm...... love them always will. :)

  • Seriously fuck music nowadays, have to go back to the pre-90's to find anything worth listening to :(

  • i totally agree music today is so terrible back in the 90s house of love would be way down in the pecking order of the music i would listen to but sounds great now!. Its great to see these videos brings back memories!

  • Something about decade crossings, late 70's early 80's punk, new wave, late 80's 90's grunge, madchester, the golden age of hip hop maybe we're on the verge of something beautiful in the years to come

  • @yeahmanyursick

i totally agree. this era was by far superior. house of love, charlatans, stone roses, who needs time to move on, i am stuck here and more than fucking happy about it x

  • @morrisseytillidie Aye it sounds like yir no movin oan, likesay. Did ye ken thit House Ay Love are gaunny reform?

  • Such cool stuff...always loved this song and vid...

  • Bloody hell, what a POWERFUL song.

  • pure pop, time when music was worthy listen to...love this song too

  • I love this songg.

    =]

  • Man, the older I get, the more I realize how hard it is to write a brilliant pop song. These guys were so good at it...amazing. Shame they never made it big.

  • got to find this vinyl in my basement attic. brilliant.

  • vinyl, lol wow when was that, like in the stone age

  • i got it the day it was released, that's how long ago. yeah the stone-age is a good guess. lol

  • A few days ago I found HOL's "Christine" video, today I found "I don't know why I love you". Man, it took me almost 20 years to find them!

  • love this. dont get me wrong, but doesnt it kind of sound like a slower version of "Let My Love Open The Door" by Pete Townshend? no matter.... its still a goodie.

  • Great Song!!! Love It!!! Memories!!!

  • This whole album is pretty good. His voice is kinda sexy, too.

  • quality rock

  • really good song , has such a feel to it.

  • Don't forget Canada's best of the early 90's The Tea Party...Also overlooked internationally.

  • chaos in the big scene

  • pure and simple so indie

  • they will play on lima peru soon ..i dont remember the date exactly but im sure its on march

  • tomorrow march 13th vocé_lince

  • could somebody here post HOL's 'feel'...big thanks..

    cheers!

    Will from Hong Kong

  • great Band

  • Great song. Haven't heard it for too long. This was a great time in England for music - H.O.L, the Wonder Stuff, P.W.E.I. - all good!

  • This album and Disintegration by The Cure...the best end for the 90's

  • wow. didn't think I'd hear this song again. Thanks!

  • where's Terry?

  • Terry was trying to break the lsd records of Syd Barrett when the band recorded this one. I think he was playing with Levitation.

  • Didn't he then decide to start his own religion? Top, top band, criminally overlooked.

  • sure, Levitation was good, even great...

  • What happened? Britpop happened, and suddenly where it all came from was left behind. HoL are still one of my all time faves - tunes, musicianship, lyrics. Split coz Chadwick was an arse - he kicked Terry Bickers out of a van i seem to remember. Last album (2005 i think) was pretty good. Don't spread the word, let's keep them to ourselves!!

  • Yeah the Hose of Love were a truly uniquie band. to just class them as 'indie' is missing the point. They had great lyrics, melodies, originality and they were mad as hell. The Creation Records book, 'My Magpie Eyes' has a short but insightful and very, very funny bit on them if anyone is interested. Too much drugs and internal fighting and paranoia were all prevelant.

  • I Loved This Band from Day 1 many years ago, and all these years on they still still soud fantastic, unlike some bands...

  • "a case study for unfulfilled potential. What went wrong? Who knows?"

Well, for me and all fans of H.O.L. - nothing was ever wrong. Fact is - they were kind enough to form, write, and record music that will never not be fresh in my world. I can listen again and again and be reminded of what fantastic - unique song-smiths' they were and are. They are like Picasso. Revel in everything they did - fuck commercial sucess. I love them - they never let me down - ever.

  • Well said mate.... I love bands like HOL, Sugar, Wedding Present... Not interested how many other people bought their records, I did. And I love 'em.....

  • Drugs, booze, paranoia and really, really bad timing.

  • Nice stuff. Guy Chadwick was (is?) a great songwriter but this band (along with countless others) could be a case study for unfulfilled potential. What went wrong? Who knows?

  • how hey werent as big as fucking u2 i dont know just shows u how mediocrity triumphs over genius

  • i just got into house of love. christine was on a creation compilation record i got a few weeks ago. they probably didnt do as well as they could due to lack of advertising from creation maybe, being an indie label and all

  • Saw them on my 17th birthday at Loughborough Uni- great memories of the gig.

  • God, what a great song! One of the best from the turn of that decade.

  • I first heard this around 1989(ish), thi samazing song was coming from my boyfriends brothers bedroom & I thought it was amazing - still do. Only got it on vinyl though. Love it - takes me back to being 16 again ;-)

  • HOL has may great songs. One of a handful of bands that regret not seeing live before their disbandment. Anybody...Did they tour with Catherine Wheel?

  • @JOKAMAJA they did tour with catherine wheel

  • @JOKAMAJA they did tour with catherine wheel

  • great track-house of love were a truly great brit band.

  • geez, I just adore listening to this song when I'm full of anger for my ex :)

  • such a great song..and group

  • Wonderful track. Alwys gives me goosebumps...

  • HOL were one of the best in their high-times.

  • your face is a foreign food

  • Man, I love this song. Does it ever make any of you think of a poppier "Christine"? Just like a few more chords changes. Haha.

  • Roddy Frame could do this for us ;-)

  • Superb, saw them at the Royal Court in Liverpool classic gig, whatever happened to the woman who sang backing vocals?

  • YEA I DO KNOW WHY I LOVE THESE GUYS !!

  • One of my favourite bands, saw them at Newcastle Uni and they were awesome. I've got a CD single of this autographed by the band

  • mental,, back to the good old days, lets get baggy!!!

  • Best track off great album

  • Thnx..brings back best memories!

  • Thanks for sharing the video. It brought back all the teenage angst!!

  • thanks for bringing back those adolescent goose bumps,i totally forgot about this song even though i used to play it till my ears bled.thanks again for bringing it back to me x

  • always, always loved this song. thanks.

  • OMG!

I've never seen this video before.

    this song is soooooo perfect.

    thanks so much!

  • I love this song...One of my ex's said this song reminded him of me ;)

  • Yeh...Superb!

  • I complete forget about this band. Great stuff.

  • Fantastic!!! It's great to finally see the bloody video, only 16 years after I bought the single!

  • wOw - I've never seen this video before, only the other version with Terry Bickers (which I prefer) But this is great, a House of Love "lost" video. Who would have thought it?
