  • 3 things

    Gr8 song vid and beads

  • soldatig.com like this video!

  • Nice welding. What tig are you using? I use a miller synchrowave as well as a Chinese WSE200P.

  • sick beads bro

  • are u welding a steel bike or aluminum?

  • @CALiBOiAKArezz That is definitely Aluminum.

  • hope you can help me , i'm planning to TIG weld a columbus life steel frame. i've hand mitered the tubes, i can see very little bit of light passing thru when i hold it against a light source, is this kind of tolerance okay? or does it have to be extremely close and precise? thanx in advance.

and btw, you have awesome welding skills !

  • great welding video.... you aught to call it DIME STACK'N

  • what kind of welding helmet did you use? i use miller elite inferno, in romania.

  • @Devilwelder, I use a Optrel Sattelite. Made in Switzerland.

  • makes it look easy. Wow!!

  • I'm learning how to TIG weld steel bikes. This video is an inspiration. Beautiful welds. Thanks!

  • 3 people don't know what a "Professional" is.

Hey Rick, what happened to "Bike Welding 2"? Did you ever post it up?

  • good one

  • im a beginner welder, and very good at it for being a beginner, but why do so many people prefer TIG? I am very good at stick and know how to use other welders, but TIG seems more complicated than MIG or Arc. any explanation?

  • Thanks for posting this vid. I'm on my second aluminum frame now, and this is really helpful.

  • dang rick, any tips for someone who has just started tig welding?

  • awesome.

  • WOW !!!Tons of respect. been mig'n for about 10 years and just bought my first inverter tig. its alot harder than some people will ever know.steel is one skill, aluminum is in a class of its own. any tips would be great! keep up the good work.

  • nice welding, turn off the horrible music

  • Wow. Much skill! Props mate

  • Hey Rick, Awesome work!!! Couple quick questions, do you ever use 5356 filler to weld 6061, though both are appropriate, the 5356 makes a stronger joint....is the 4043 more forgiving on bike tube structures because it flows better? Also, what frequency are you welding with, and balled or pointed tungsten? I have a Miller Dynasty 200DX, so Im not familiar with the Lincolns Auto Balance function, is it adjusting the waveform asymmetry or is it adjusting the current asymmetry? Again, great work!

  • what song is?

  • that song is?

  • In Fucking Credible. Clean video too. How did you get the aluminum so clean? Can you tell us what Aluminum and thickness, wire used, Gas lens? etc? Kick ass welder. Why are you welding bikes? Should be welding aircraft or something?

  • @JohnnyWeld, Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it, I used to weld aircraft or something for 26 years, been welding bikes for 6 yrs. now. We wash the tubes in a parts washer before welding. 6061, .062 to .187 HT,3/32 4043, 3/32 gas lens,3/32 Lanthanated Tungsten, 130 amps, auto balance on,15cfh straight argon.

    Aight ?

  • @rickthewelder Thanks for the reply. What do you wash the parts in, what solution?

  • @JohnnyWeld , anytime.

I'll have to check what the solution is called, our tackers order it, and maintain the washer, and it is mixed with very hot water in the washer. After the parts come out of the washer, they air dry.

  • @rickthewelder the guy on weldingtricks and tips says 2 percent thor. is as good as any tungsten. what are your thoughts? i am bond and determined to get amy beads upto ur par.

  • @moto9ll Thoriated tungsten is radioactive, so try not to breathe it when you grind it.

Good for steel welding, as it holds up to the heat best.

For Aluminum, I use lanthanated, or ceriated.

  • @rickthewelder thanks , i'll give it a try.

  • Very nice!

  • @jameswswanson , Thanks James.

  • u have a pulse tig?

  • @SvenskFilm2 , Yes, an advanced control panel is on my machine, not using in this video though.

  • NIce welding gloves.

Oh, the welds look good, too.

  • @donkeymorris Only because I use those gloves..........

  • Rick, this is great.

I'm at the begining of the long learning curve of tig welding and this is pure inspiration.

    As a wanabe frame builder.

    May I ask ?

How thick is that doubler ? (same as the DT ?) if it's a monocoque (951) same welding sequences ?

    Thanks ++

  • Rick I don't want to sound like an asshole. I could watch this vid. a hundred times Bro. But we need more. I think your fans out there want more. I know I want to see more. I've watched them all and they don't even come close to your skill dude. Again man, pleasure to watch and Thanks.

  • @StMichaelsCrew , Thank you for the compliment. Soon I'll be posting a vid of me pulsing a monocoque downtube of an Intense 951, real good stuff.

It will be called ''Bike Welding 2'', stay tuned.

  • Thanks man . Can't wait.

  • Awesome man... After practicing for about 3 hours yesterday its obvious how much skill this takes. For a new guy, any suggestings for setting up an Inverter TIG for welding Alum? What Freq, pulse or no pulse etc?

  • @djborden , thanks for the compliment.

What is it you are going to weld ?

  • Looks awesome. Only thing i see is maybe try keeping filler wire in the gas cloud.

  • @JohnnyWeld

    Uh, Aluminum is non-ferrous.......

Thanks for the compliment just the same ?

    Rick.

  • Rick you are an artist. Props man.

  • @MrNattyville Thanks man.

    I appreciate the compliment.

  • your welcome. and yes they are. revco makes some awesome products. all of my ppe is revco. i love their stick gloves

  • very random question but are those revco bsx tigster gloves. excellent welding tig is an awesome process

  • Yes they are, the best gloves i've ever used in almost 32 years now.

    Thanks for the compliment !

  • Hello

I'm looking to this type of welding in my garage. My experience is aerospace and I'm equally good at welding aluminum. Do you do this at work or in your garage and who do you get business. I'm in the Michigan area and use a Miller dynasty 350. Your welds look great! thanks for representing.

    Thanks for your input.

  • That vid was shot @ my job. I weld for Intense Cycles, we make mountain bikes here in the USA.

If you are set up in your garage, go to local machine shops to get work.

I used to but don't anymore.

You should charge at least 1 dollar a minute.

    Thanks for the compliment.

  • What make and modle of welder do you have?

  • Lincoln Precision Tig 275 with ACP.

  • that guy can stack dimes

  • Do you use 4043 rods reguardless of what tubing your using? Whats the best way to clean the welds ? prety to watch

  • Thanks !

The most important thing in Tig welding is matching the filler rod to what you are welding.

It depends on what I'm welding as to what filler I use.

Acetone, and a wire brush works to clean the area your going to weld on most applications. Hope that answers your question.

  • Can you not get 6061 rods? I know a lot of welders use 4043 rods because of the silicon content for flow. I wondered how to clean the welds after the process, stainless you use pickling paste or a wonder wand, I wondered if there was a technique of cleaning the white deposit surrounding the weld to leave a nice clean finnish. cheers

  • well done bro! is it stainless or alloy? do you use argon or CO2, is it a foot control

  • Thanks ! its 6061, straight argon, and yes a foot pedal.

  • oooo make me horny

  • Very Good work -

  • nice work! hands like a surgeon...

how long have you been tig welding ?

  • 31 years, and thanks !!

  • your welding is excellent , i have a tig ac/dc for aluminium and i keep getting black and burning , (3 years of practice) well done and thanks for sharing!

  • @CDbythecross fantastic job. You have to be confident to weld like that.

  • Hi Rick, is there anywhere you can buy just the frame components i.e tubes, bottom bracket and fittings so I can weld my own frame? nice job

  • Yea, try Nova Cycles.

  • rtw, ftw....there is alot of 'tw's' out there! strong work....

  • Thanks man. btw thats a sweet lookin 9er in your vid.

  • nice work

    is that a bmx frame?

  • No, its the front triangle of a full suspension bike, and thanks !

  • Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it.

    RTW.

  • Fucking dude can weld. Pleasure to watch. Man you've got to post some more. Thanks for the show.

  • Ive watched this vid like 10 times now. I just cant believe the steadiness of your hands haha. Ive practiced, practiced, practiced and ive finally built up the skill/ confidence enough to remodell a aluminium hull boat. No where near good enough to do welds that people would want to see/ buy. This bike looks more like art to me.

  • Are there any long term effects on the eyes from tig welding even while using a visor?

  • beautiful welds. i love when people talk shit especially when they have no idea what they are talking about...

  • hey man good work what is the song

  • In this vid, obviously I'm not pulsing.

Yes I have the acp, what is your question ?

    RTW.

  • Hey , i just have a precision tig and just starting working on it .

Are you using the one with the advanced control panel , and using the pulse ?

im just startin in making my own bike frames and i need your advice.

    Thanks

  • Nice work! I love to mountain bike and the ones Ive owned have always had the best welds! I appreciate the work!

  • Looks like aerospace has done you good, from Swedlow till now. The best welder in the biz. How are you doing, Kevin two houses down.

  • nice. machine specs? settings?

  • Lincoln Precision Tig 275.

    130 Amps, auto balance.

3/32 Tungsten, Gas lens, #5 cup.

    3/32 4043 wire. Argon, 20cfh.

    :)

    RTW.

  • I am so jealous of those welds. Great stuff man.

  • haha. soul of thunder got owned?

props on the weld, i've tried tig welding and i got a mess of splattered metal and a trashed practice piece haha. that shits hard to do

  • after watching your "technique" , I wouldn't trust your welds ,man. I don't see how you are getting any penetration by just shoving rod into the weld.

  • Hey bro, since you obviously don't know what your talking about, I'll leave you with a saying we had in the aerospace industry ( where I spent 26 years )

'' sometimes its better to leave your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and prove it "

    Peace, Rickthewelder.

  • Haa..

Man some people do talk shit..

Work looks really nice..keep it up.

  • seeing how I weld high pressure steam and and chrome piping/stainless for a few years myself. I have pretty good experience in my field as well. and your technique leaves much to be desired. if your welds hold , more power to you. but that wouldnt pass where I was taught and where I have to test out on every job I weld on for the last 15 years.

  • So, you weld chrome ?

Hey dude let this go, i'll mop the floor with you.
