  • I wish there was a lot more footage like this around. Anything with Richie Beirach is worth checing out.

  • GREAT ! MRAZ DONALD and BEIRACH top of musician's musicians .

  • Back in the 80's I sent the VHS recording of this concert to John Abercrombie as he, himself, enjoyed the group's playing very much... I was there...what a a great concert.

    Thanks

  • I liked Abercrombie with a pick. This era in his career was dealin'.

  • thanks so much for posting this - this is my fave of all Abercrombie's bands and I;d never "seen" them move before :-) - they made 3 great albums - wish they came out on CD - maybe EDM will do one of those 3CD boxes they;ve been doing for other bands of this era.

  • I was there, ( just behind the bass). It was unforgettable. Thank you for sharing this.

  • It is really wonderful.

    cool!

  • The Poet

  • Come see the John Abercrombie Quartet at the Angel City Jazz Festival at the Musician's Institute Theater on 10/9!

  • I've taken lessons with John and am family friends with Peter Donald, and they are amazing human beings in addition to be being wonderful musicians

  • Well, I'm glad you guys appreciate this video and John Abercrombie as much as I do.

  • Wow, What a real treat to see this !! When the hell is ECM going to re-release the stuff from this era ? truly Gems. thanks

  • this is so good!!

  • Muito obrigado!

  • I fully agree, Rod.

  • Abercrombie is the poet of modern guitar !!!

  • I had the hapiness of being in this show. The criativity, interplay and the musical concept changed forever my mind and my taste in music. I was 18 years old.

  • No it is actually called "Foolish Dog" not door

  • @mrgone78 in fact it IS 'foolish door' - it was mistitled on the 1980 ecm album 'abercrombie quartet'. on ja's recent self-release 'cradle of light' (available on cd baby), it's given as 'foolish door'

  • Thanks for sharing the tune's title.

  • Superb! The tune is Abercrombie's "Foolish Door."

  • This is totally great - so rare... Arcade and Abercrombie Quartet were two of the most creative and fresh sounding recordings to emerge in improvised music in the late 70s... pity they never (to this day) have gotten anywhere near the respect they deserve. A video from this period is just wonderful!!

  • Great stuff. This music is sad but it is beautiful. All the Bill Evans heritage is there. Great players. Five stars!
