I like how Shawn composed and improvised without having to resort to other techniques to any great extent such as tapping, sweeping, hybrid picking, etc. even though he was fully capable of doing all that. Many of today's guitar virtuosos (Guthrie, Bfoot, Bucket, etc.) may incorporate more innovative ideas into their playing they still don't surpass Shawn and the things he did.

I've seen so many Lane videos, but pretty the only time I see him sweep he only does it for about second. I guess he just didn't like the technique much, neither do I, and Paul Gilbert rarely uses it as well.

@IcolossusPSN I read in an interview that Richard Hallebeek did with Shawn Lane that he got so much medication at one point when he was like 20, he got poisoned by it and his body turned against him which caused him to become so huge. He wasn't able to get a serious medical treatment for his psoriasis because he just couldn't afford it. I believe when he was about 39-40 he got the financial support after years and years of paperwork. Unfortunately help came too late and he died way too young..

It was a miracle he could play at all. Shawn also had Pulmonary Fibrosis, so exercise wasn't an option. He died of respiratory failure. RIP Master...
