A local chap said the entire whale gets cubed up by the locals, hauled to their homes then later hauled to the dump and abandoned to the polar bears! He said the whale hunt was ritual but they don't consume the meat!??
We werent there when they were hunting... but many times when i was in AK i was offered to eat whale fat by the locals... im so sad i cant remember how they called it now...
@NorthernMostTours aoutch im glad u realized that wasnt directed for me lol
ur answer to porterrockwell is a little hard... true but hard... i think its so difficult to find information or should i say the correct information on any subjects now... anyway thank you for the information.
@noemiebb You don't know what you are talking about. Educate yourself - learn before you comment and put down another way of life - Look at the video - they are munching off of the bones. Enthnocentrism - look it up. You are another world away and cannot possibly fathom or understand the way of life so high in the Arctic. No offense - just that you are wrong.
@porterrockwell That's not true! What you see here is polar bears eating off of whale bones - gristle and cartilage etc. - NON -edible parts - Your accusation is based off of hearsay - you should go there and see for yourself - When hamburger is ten bucks a pound and same for milk - you cant afford to eat from just the store - We eat and love whale meat and maktak.
Now THAT is a bait station!

The whale fat is refferred to as 'muktuk' - not sure if that's how it is spelled.

that was meant for porter rockwell - oops
sorry moemibb -

its properly maktak in proper grammatical Inupiaq but muktuk is a common way to spell it as well...
