They have become a joke and no one in the band is an original member - go play to your emo teenie fanbase "in flames" and I'll listen to everything before clayman, when you were creative masters
Lunar Strain, The Jester Race and Whoracle will always be the best (and dont forget the Subterranean EP, its awesome!) but I have to admit, you can hear some of the old qualities from this stuff in some of the newer stuff. The newer stuff is very hit and miss, I think Come Clarity and Deliver Us are good tracks, with some really great melodic solos from Bjorn Gelotte but stuff like My Sweet Shadow and Take this life I think is pure shit. anyway, thats my two cents on it
All this criticism of In Flames adopting a new sound has less to do with the music and more to do with veteran fan's egotistical insistence that only THEY have a right to appreciate the band and dictate which music is "good" and "bad". Get over yourselves.
@Saturos007 True indeed. It's always a mistake once we start saying "they need to return to their roots and play music that's meaningful", for any band (even Metallica; that was a bitter thing to admit lawls). Hate to break it to you, but they don't. You have no say, no matter how much you object. They play the music they want to play and that's that. Doesn't matter if you're a fan, it won't happen. All you can do is either appreciate what they have to offer or stay deaf to it.
@SupaGrowby I like all of it, the old, the new, the screamo. All though, The Jester Race has been my favorite, and will most likely be for a long time.
@o6one9o lol I like Come Clarity as an album as a whole but 'take this life' is arguably one of In Flames' worst songs. :P
I can understand the appeal but it lacks any kind of virtuosity or even any signs of musical competence, whereas their older music was truly phenominal.
@videogamerselite270 lol no actually Deliver us isn't that great but it is 100x better than take this life.
I saw In Flames several days ago. I knew every lyric to every song they played, headbanged like mad and sang along to every song....until they closed with take this life. I stood there and shook my head lol I was like "son... I am disappoint".
I like it. I wish I was in hollywood. I would flip the script on the bullshit coming out. I would have a action movie with this playing through an intense scene. Just picture some shit blowing up and awesome action in your mind with this song. It seems right.
In Flames has some of the best instrumentals in all of metal IMO. Just the way the melodies make me feel... it's like heroin for me. I have to get my fix or I freak out.
@SimpJee not really the entire thing is to speradic (excuse the spelling) for it to be good for that try just some random scales or something but leave this kind of orgasmic music for when you just want to have some fun
I'm confused isn't this Everlost Pt. 1? I think you may have mixed up the song titles. Or maybe my cd track list is wrong. Anyway In Flames is the best!
If you look at the first albums of all the melodic d metal founders: Carcass, At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, and In Flames, this album is the only one that's actually all that decent.
At the gates (with fear I kiss the burning darkness) was an incredible album. Dark tranquiltiy(Skydancer) is a classic among the melo death scene back then. You can't forget Eucharist(greeting immortality) a chef-d'oeuvre. And in flames (lunar strain)was a decent album yes but not the only one! and beside they did their apparition on the melodeath scene an year after all the others.
Yes I know is their second and mention this one cause I think it's better than the first. As a debut album Lunar strain is flawless I must admit. The sound quality of skydancer makes it a bit undeveloped I give you that, but at a melodic level I think it was pretty nice. Salute!
SuperColossal33..Jesper didn't ''solo'' make this album lol. You forgetting about Glenn & Johan are you? To clear up some things..
Jesper is the only original member left today yes.
Björn & Anders both joined in 95, though Björn joined some months earlier. And Anders was actually still in Ceremonial Oath when he joined IF, but he later left.
Peter joined in 97 (Niclas Engelin joined 97 too but left the same year)
Daniel joined in 98 cause Jesper asked him. And this is only the short story.
its not the same band at all....there is only 1 current member left in band atm which was in lunar strain. All the In flames members atm are different but the guitarist Jesper...Vocalist was Michael Stanne from Dark Tranquillity
anders friden did vocals on the jester race too, unless your counting lunar strain and subterannean as individual albums, but subterranean wasnt really a full album...anders was good until lately. i liked everything til a sense of purpose, and it took me awhile to get into cm clarity.
i would say from lunar strain to clayman is their best, but after that it went a little down hill, with (for me) a few exceptions like dismiss the cynics, take this life, cloud connected, march to the shore, move through me, free fall, and a few on soundtrack to your escape

@Saturos007
I'd a pretty new fan of In flames. I started listening to them 3-4 years ago and i've been to 2 live shows.
They are great live.
But their new style is so much worse than the old.
Everything In flames did in the 90s is superior to the later albums!
Especially the last 2 albums are not much better than the usual random metal band could make...

this album was pretty much just something jesper made...i consider the band to have started at black ash/jester race
SuperColossal33 2 years ago
oops i mean subterranean, not black ash.
SuperColossal33 2 years ago
Stanne wasn't the vocalist.
He was hired in-studio to track vocals,
and I believe he did some touring,
but he was never the official vocalist and was never an actual member.
Anders is the original vocalist who was actually a member.
And besides, this album only had three people, lol, of course there is only one original member, now.
