The Roger Moore films were like parodies of Bond. Apart from the Connery films, this one is the best in the franchise. Also, it has a great cast! Savalas is superb as Blofeld, and Rigg is also a stunning Bond girl. Gabriele Ferzetti is also a great actor. He also played roles in Antonioni's Italian arthouse movies, and in spaghetti westerns.
@dhutchinson86 I could not agree more. I love this movie because we see so many new sides to Bond which him much more relatable. And what a relief to hear that others think Dalton is the best. I so agree. His scowling and tight jawline made him a true killer but he also broght a sadness to the character that was spot on and which I believe is in the books as well.
Lazenby was good enough & could have grown into the part. Roger Moore has never been my favorite Bond, but in all fairness to him, the stories and scripts he was given to work with were pretty pathetic. Making Bond some sort of jet-setting playboy-lightweight who also fights super villains, along with ever-increasing comedy (even slapstick) was the fault on Eon Productions & Cubby Broccoli. Glad the late Ian Fleming never had to sit thru "Sheriff J.W. Pepper's antics" or "Jaws Falls in Love"!
This about it, if Lazenby would have stayed on as Bond, Moore probably would have never played the part. Not to mention, Connery probably wouldn't have done Diamonds.
OHMSS is my all time favorite Bond film. I don't believe Lazenby is my favorite Bond, that one going to Dalton, but I could not see another actor playing this script as well as Lazenby did. Connery couldn't have pulled off this flick, he was more of a determined agent with the mission always on his mind.
Even tough Roger Moore is my favourite bond, i wish Lazenby would have done ONE more film before Moore, I wanted a dark, brutal follow up to this film, were Lazenby is chasing down Blofeld and in his wrath killing everyone he meet and actually gets to put a bullet in Blofeld, his death in FYO was just redicolous
I wanted to like this one more, I mean it had a great story and some great sequences and all, my main problems were that the guy playing Blofeld wasn't very convincing to me (Pleasance was far better) and I personally thought some of the cinematography and editing in the action sequences was dreadful which somewhat ruined the experience for me. Otherwise, Lazenby was a fairly good Bond but this film was only decent.
Man, I just saw this movie, I'm still in shock. I though Bond always defeated the villain and got the girl at the end, nothing farther than the truth.
Without a doubt one of, if not the best of the series and for all those who keep slating Lazenby...why? He was excellent in the role, much more aggressive in the fights and much more human than Connery ever was (and Connery was my fav). He was certainly a billion times better than the wet, limp and all round awful portrayal of Roger Moore. ESPECIALLY when you put The Man With The Golden Gun, Moonraker and A View To A Kill into the frame...-shudders-
Good story, Bad cast, bad direction, missed oppertunity. A plastic Action man would have had more charisma than Goerge Lazenby. The score was good though.
I agree. Just wish the ending wasn't such a downer. Would have been cool if he became obsessed with getting revenge for her death. That could have made a great sequel, but doubt it would have been greenlit at that time. Now that I think of it, thats what happened in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
@aYsDigital Watch the movie and you'll laugh your butt off because most of the parodies in Austin Powers came directly from this movie. That is how cheesy it is.
@Nosensefornonsense He had a contract for 7 movies, but his crappy agent conviced George to quit since his agent said the Bond movies wouldn't survive through the 70's now there's another actor instead of Connery. After the succes of Live And Let Die George fired his agent and he now regrets quiting as Bond.
My boss read your comment and said your a tit, he wouldnt like me to repeat this but hes a real life james bond and served in the childwall chains as a commander.
Theguythatsawesome... how can you say moore was the worst bond when he was the best...he done the most 7in all, he was first choice by ian fleming to play bond, unlike connerys films the moores era were high budget and brought the films back into the public demand as they were filmed brilliantly, i suggest you look up you history on the bond films before you talk complete crap !
Connery did 7 too (Including Never Say Never) and don't forget one of Moore's 7 films was 'Moonraker' (roles eyes). Too much Sci-Fi generally ruines a Bond movie.
I don't normally think this but I think they should remake this movie having Daniel Craig in the role. Lazenby should have done more because fans felt he was just a back up for connery. While Brocoli tried to agree a large deal with Connery to bring him back. I've always wounded what it would be like if Connery did this film. Also I think Connery did enough films by the time he made Diamonds Are Forever you could see a lot of gray hairs.
@TheGuyThatsAwesome I agree with you 100 percent. sorry Sean wasent in it. but it wasent made for connery. Lazenby was pretty good. growing up with sean connery I had to get use to Lazenby. He was better then Roger Moore ever was. I hated him playing bond. A view to a kill. WORST BOND MOVIE EVER''.
@1969joeyd Roger Moore is easily the worst Bond out there. And while A View to a Kill is pretty bad, I think The Man with the Golden Gun is the absolute worst.
My dad took me to this movie when I was a kid. I had seen "You Only Live Twice" and "Thunderball" previous to this one. I remember how disappointed I was that Connery wasn't playing Bond. Lazenby just didn't do it for me, especially in the scenes when he used that ridiculous fake accent playing the part of the pussified Genealogist. Lazenby couldn't hold Connery's nuts up out of the sand. The best part of this movie is the title song, or instrumental is more accurate, since it has no lyrics.
It's odd how the announcer disparages the previous Bond films by emphasizing how OHMSS is different because of classier women, a better plot, etc. OHMSS was different, but not necessarily better. Lazenby - whose only acting experience was doing commercials - was not as compelling or likable as Connery. Yes, OHMSS was more serious - which was good - but was not as engaging as its predecessors. As a result, the film was a financial disappointment, which was why Lazenby was dismissed.
OHMSS was a huge hit, easily one of the biggest of the years. Lazenby cocked it by saying he wasn't going to do anymore Bonds and he alienated Brocoli and director Hunt.
OHMSS was a huge hit, easily one of the biggest of the year. Lazenby cocked it by saying he wasn't going to do anymore Bonds and he alienated Brocoli and director Hunt.
George Lazenby says "THANK U SO MUCH Ronan O'Rahilly(AGENT) FOR CONVINCIING ME TO LEAVE THE BOND SERIES in 1969 BECAUSE THE POPULARITY OF 007 FRANCHISE WOULD NOT CONTINUE!!!...."THANK U SO MUCH RONAN 4 ENDING MY MOVIE CAREER!"...YOU C.U.N.T!...WTF
I just found out that George was offered a contract to do 7 more BOND films but he was convinced by his FU_KWIT of a agent Ronan O'Rahilly that the 007 franchise was finished and would NOT b a SUCCESS in the future so on this terrible advice George opted out of the bond series in 1969!...WAT A F***!ING MISTAKE THAT WAS!...I WOULD'VE SHOT MY USELESS AGENT IN THE F***ING FACE!
Though I really enjoy this film with George Lazenby...the ending is absolutely terrible... so disappointing to end an upbeat film with miserable anti-climactic finish!
Im a big 007 fan! & I think George Lazenby was a GREAT & different mould of James bond...I think the critics who slammed his performance were very unfair! I saw OHMSS 4 the first time the other day & Its NOW one of my favourite 007 films... Well done George.
Lazenby would've made a good Bond had he continued, but this film would be the best in the series with Connery. If you read the 1965 Playboy interview Sean says he is contracted to do TWO more movies, so this one was to be his last. I'm not sure why he was replaced with Lazenby. I assume he wanted out and the producers obliged him.
if the main reason this movie doesn't get the attention it deserves is because of George Lazenby than that's just disapponiting, i watched this the other day and still holds up today, it should be on any Bond fan's top ten list atleast.
great underrated bond movie. Diana Rigg best bond babe. Tough, sexy, and charming. Funny part of the trailer, Louis Armstronging singing love song while skier is plunging to his death. Quite odd.
They could do like with From Russia with Love game where they used Connery's Bond and have a game with Lazenby's Bond and even have Lazenby to voice him.
