70% RH is a bad humidity level, in my opinion. I like my stogies at or around 65%RH for best burn and draw. 70% burns poor and uneven with a tight draw. If you don't like the way your cigars are burning time to time, drop the humidity to 65% (no lower).
OK, silly newbie question... While waiting for my humidor to come up to 70%, is it a bad idea to keep my cigars in the bathroom, which is the most humid room I have? A shower gets steamy in there once a day...
i just became a member of the thompson cigar club and not and expert by anymeans on cigars help me out!! im looking to get a humidor dont have a lot to spend and want to buy from thompson. any recomendations? and i do this process too the one that i end up buying correct? if you could help me out itd be great. i want a cigar that isnt too strong and is smooth too smoke.
Hey, I've got a big problem. I've been using a Ci-gel humidity regulator in my humidor and now all my cigars are covered in a salty chemical residue inside and out that has completely ruined my cigars. I was told by the guys at my local store that this ci-gel which is a crystal gel regulator works well and i'm supposed to refill it once a month with a humidor wetting solution once a month which is what i did. any ideas what the hell happened?
4 corrections: (1) Wiping the wood is NOT a good thing for wood grain! Take the time to do it right and simply set a container of distilled water inside and let it evaporate and get absorbed by the wood before adding your cigars. (2) There's no velcro on that sponge... that was a magnet. (3) Cellophane is a choice and does breathe well. That's a personal preference issue but don't tell people it doesn't breathe. (4) That analog hygrometer will not last; I recommend everyone go digital.
any difference in what you use to soak your humdification device? is distilled water better than the glycol solution or the beads/gels, or are they all the same?
also, if the salt/water mixture that people use to calibrate their hydrometers gives you a perfect 75% humidity all the time, why dont people just use a small jar of salt and water as a humidification device instead of fussing with all these gadgets.
@petp There is no drastic difference in what you use to soak your humidification device but we recommend that you use only distilled water or, 100% Mystic or 100% Thompson solutions. As far as maintaining the correct humidity, Thompson Wonder Gel is able to release humidity “on demand,” continually, maintaining a perfect 70%. Each of the small jars are able to service a 100-count humidor for a minimum of 90 days before recharging is required. The salt/water mixture is not capable of doing this.
What is your problem? Why are you nitpicking what this man is saying? He's taking the time to make these free videos to help people. He doesn't have to be doing this, it's a passion and the fact that he's even doing it in the first place is a great thing. Keep making excellent videos Al.
If you follow what he says in this video, you know what you end up with? Dried up cigars, just like the crap they sell on thompson's website. Every cigar smoker knows that it takes at least a week to properly season a humidor. Secondly, that analog hygrometer, that's not accurate. get a digital hygrometer and do a salt test.
@ thompson's : thanks for the catalog.. grape swishers? really? that's what you're enticing cigar aficionados with? for the record, i never ordered from you.
@AltuzAudio - Thanks for the support, AltuzAudio! Contrary to other opinions, an analog hygrometer can be very accurate and will ensure your cigars stay fresh however digital seems to be the most popular as it is easier to read. Personally, I like a digital hygrometer because it's easy to read when I peer into my humidor in the mornings. Have a great day!
@robsta1208 We did delete the video so Al could take the time to explain to cigar newbie's why what you saw in the video was indeed plume. Stay tuned! New video coming soon! Have a great day robsta1208!
@robsta1208 - You seem to be having a bad day! Obviously, we're going to delete negative reviews with profanity as no one needs to be subjected to irrelevant, profane language. We value your opinion however, Al Remp is an extremely knowledgeable cigar aficionado who has dedicated over 50 years to what he describes as an obsession and an extreme passion.
