Time for an update guys! It's 2012 and there's amateur video on Youtube that shows more current progress. Would love to see some vid's showing how the soil nailing is done, how those large pillars that require cooling are done, how they deck the bridges/overpasses...etc, etc. It's really fascinating to drive through it twice daily (to/from work) and the progress is incredible. Also need vid showing Westbound and how the 121/360 portions interface with the 'connector'. Thanks!
Its all about the Airport!. Think about it Planes In Planes Out, Equals People In, People Out Equals Cars In Cars Out And Goods In Goods Out Equals Trucks In Trucks Out, Add them together and its BILLIONS of dollars!
The old DFW turnpike, used to be a toll road until the mid 70s and when the bonds when were paid off toll collection ceased, the toll booths removed and became part of I-30. Will that be the case here as well, or is it planned to be a toll road on a permanent basis?
@TheProlefeed1 When complete, this project will feature 6-8 general purpose main lanes in each direction & 2 managed lanes in each direction. Before construction, there were only 3-4 general purpose lanes in each direction. Project funding from all sources was used to both expand existing general lanes while also adding managed lanes.
@TheProlefeed1 In addition to adding general lanes, the managed lanes will use pricing to keep traffic moving at 50 mph, even during peak hours. With more than 100,000 new residents coming to North Texas every year, these lanes offer a method of keeping traffic moving in areas where ever-wider roads become cost prohibitive & they offer long-term congestion relief. However, motorists will always have the option to travel on the widened general purpose lanes for no additional cost.

Why was 250 million dollars in stimulus money was used to build the DFW connector, the largest single stimulus project , yet tolls will still be collected to "reduce congestion." How is that not a form of double taxation if the road has already been funded by taxpayer dollars?
@TheProlefeed1 The raod is being built to sell out America. Shipping Asian Goods, IE CHINESE GOODS, through mexico, and into texas, and the distributed via trucks.
@SouthDFWrep, thanks for your comments, however, I respectfully disagree. Anyone living in the DFW area can tell you that being able to navigate around the airport, as well as major arterials including SH 114 and SH 121 in a safe, efficient, reliable & environmentally sensitive manner is vital. That's what this project does. At its widest point on SH 114, the DFW Connector will have up to 24 lanes, including 14 main lanes & six frontage lanes--only 4 of those lanes will be toll-managed lanes.
What many people do not realize is this is not about mobility... it is about profit. All of the money that will come from the conversion of this public road to a private tolled-road will go to a private, "for-profit" company... all thanks to Rick Perry and his foreign lobbyist. The citizens of Texas are being raped in the name of mobility by Captian Goodhair Perry!! It's disgusting!
Thanks for the comment--we appreciate your interest in the project. Our project deliverables is based on funding, and as you may know, it's extremely tight. Everything we do is geared toward getting the biggest bang for our buck.
"Mouths falls open".. We have motorways ( plural: "snelwegen") but not like this... Just a thought though: would it work to go to maximum capacity right away and put whatever can be put underground underground and use the available space for housing, a business centre or a park ?
Construction on the 121 Northbound to 114 Westbound direct-connector will start in September 2010 with a few of the bridge foundations. This movement is anticipated to open to traffic in December 2012. In a design-build project the design may change and because of that these dates are subject to change as well.
The developer is working on another video that will focus on the west, central and east sections separately. A version should be available this spring.
