Absolutely beautiful! :) I found a grey squirrel eating tomatos in my garden the other day, which I was quite surprised to see. Not that I minded - something's gone wrong with the crop so they're all brown anyway. Just glad someone has found a use for them!
I hope your grey squirrel isnt anywhere near us in Cumbria!!!! I dont mind the greys if they stay in their own place but they are causing problems for he reds - and killing them off - so I wouldnt want one here!!!
It's in Nottingham... I've heard about the greys causing problems for the reds. It's such a shame. In Sweden (where I'm from), the squirrels are all red, and they're absolutely beautiful. So far, I've yet to see a red one in this area. I'm not even sure I've ever seen a red one in the parts of Nottinghamshire I've been to! :(
In the British Isles, Grey Squirrels are a bloody nuisance / pest.
Apart from wiping out native, lovely Reds like this 'lil fella above, they take song birds nestlings and eggs (as do Magpies).
In the small farming/woodland area around Golden Acre Park and (next door) Adel Dam Nature reserve - we shoot about 25 greys a year. The place is overrun with them.
Parks and Nature Reserves (irony in the name) do not control them at all. Sad.
Agreed. But these are (British) European Red Squirrels which are being wiped out by the American Grey which was released. Apart from being more aggressive and successful, it carries a virus/pox fatal to reds.
Cute : ) The squirrels where I am haven't figured out how to lift the lid of the squirrel feeder yet, they just eat the nuts through the wire part :P looks like yours learned quite quickly. Didn't know they like water melons either.
Yeah they caught on quick - but at first weren't strong enough to lift the lid!! Unfortunately the Jackdaws have also learnt how to lift the lid and help themselves too now!! The water melon was just by chance really - it got thrown out there and they absolutely loved it!!
omg tiny :D!

Feeding gróundnuts to squirels is killing them. Too high sodium blocks their skeleton formation.

Its ok - they have a lot of other things as well as peanuts. If you only feed them peanuts then there can be problems but they have allsorts here.

Thanks - they are brilliant to watch - so funny sometimes!

They have a nice way of lifting and
repositioning the legs for good balance,
when settling down to eat something.

Their feet just look huge at this age!!

Like everything else compared to them.
Cones must be eaten halfway on the ground,
too heavy to carry to the treebranch :)
They don't have newborn gray forehead, is it normal there?

If you find a grey squirrel just shoot it trap it or otherwise kill it.
this protects song birds eggs + nestlings as well as the gorgeous native Red Squirrel

I've counted 5 baby red squirrels and 4 baby chipmunks in my yard this year so far!
