  • this is so..like rocky

  • RIP JOE.

  • DOWN GOES FRAZIER! DOWN GOES FRAZIER!! DOWN GOES FRAZIER!!!

  • This fight went on at least two knockdowns too long.

  • what year was this fight?

  • Inhumane..not 1 oz competitive was either fight..

  • RIP Angelo Dundee. You can hear him frequently in Cosell's call, especially at the end when he was screaming for them to stop the fight.

  • Ali was immature & at times cruel in talking about Frazier -- but one black man calling another black man a gorilla can't be racist in that both men are black. That was simply Ali being immature & calling Frazier a childish name -- suggesting Frazier wasn't very bright

As far as Frazier having "integrity" --where is there any evidence of this? A great fighter, yes, but that doesn't mean he had integrity. He never displayed any compelling integrity in his personal life. If so, tell me when

  • @9162vb48 he was man embedded in his community, a man of his word, a man who loaned that dipshit ali 10 grand when ali couldn't keep his bills up--he ran a gym for fighters, he ran it free of charge to underprivileged, he was always honest and humble in his words of others and nothing but accountable. As far as he can't be racist to another man who is black, please, I am not sitting here taking race relations from you, he treated him in a terribly racist inferior way, simple as that.

  • @jabb69 you shut that mother fucker up real quick

  • @adamelliott11 lol yea some people refuse to give the man his due credit for living a life with tremendous honor. the movie rocky was written with frazier as the core fighter, afterall frazier hit meat in freezers and was a man of the people in philly

  • @9162vb48 Well, he never called Ali names back even when Ali called him every name in the book. He actually HELPED Ali when they took his boxing license by giving him money to get back on his feet and helped him get his license back. If that's not a man with integrity then what is?

  • DOWN GOES FRAZIER I LOVE THAT

  • two great geniuses

  • "Down goes Ellis" is not as catchy as "down goes Frazier".

  • Cosell -- "Mister Obnoxious" -- just couldn't resist calling George Foreman a "boy."

  • @9162vb48 Cosell called everybody "boy", regardless of color.

  • @jperez9805

Not so. Cosell had a condescending attiude toward Floyd Patterson, Willie Mays and several other black athletes.

His attitude was that of, say, F. SInatra -- meaning: "You okay if you're black as long as you stand within the orb of my celebrity." That was the attitude Sinatra took with S. Davis Jr. and it's the attitude of several people in Cosell's generation.

Ali didn't let Cosell get away with anything -- and Cosell knew it. Which is typical of a closet racist.

  • @9162vb48 ali was a racist as well, go by his own words, called frazier a guerrilla, a man who had more inegrity then ali in one pinky then ali in his whole body

  • "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!"

One of the greatest calls in sports broadcasting history.

  • Frazier vs Norton and Lyle would have been very interesting.

  • R.I.P. Smokin' Joe

  • God bless Joe and his family....Will be GREATLY missed....

  • @jennifersman NICE COMMENT MY MAN VERY NICE COMMENT I LIKE IT

  • There never was nor will there ever be an announcer like Howard Cosell!

  • @FleetFeet1

    You speak truth.

  • With apologies to Howard, UP GOES FRAZIER! UP GOES FRAZIER! R.I.P. Smokin' Joe, you were one of the best

  • RIP Joe, I will go down as one of the greatest fighters of all time. And a beautiful human being. God Bless You Smokin Joe

  • Rest in Peace Joe Frazier

  • DOWN GOES FRAIZEEEYUH!!!!!

  • Smokin Joe Frazier...RIP A World Heavy Weight Champion, A Very Tough Man!!

"DOWN GOES FRAZIER"! Probably three of the most famous sports anounced words in History! Thanks Howard Cosell

  • THE AMAZING THING IS THAT THEY USED TO SHOW THESE FIGHTS FOR FREE ON REGULAR TV (USUALLY ON ABC) BACK IN THE DAY.

  • @eddievenegas So true, I remember years later when Cosell covered a Sugar Ray Leonard fight on a Saturday afternoon and he knocked out his opponent in like the 3rd round and when Cosell interviewed it looked like Ray had barely broken a sweat!

  • rip your down but never forgotten

  • class act

  • Saw Joe at the MGM in September signing autographs. Class act, gave everyone the same attention, took pictures with them, made them feel special. What a true champion and great human being. RIP Smokin' Joe.

  • RIP to this very courageous man, to stand up after 6 ko in 2 round is something a few have done, maybe no one... If the referee didn't stop the match, Frazier could have fight until he die. Respect ! And Foreman was and still remain an absolute wonderful fighter. I hope he will die at the oldest age possible, respect to him..

  • @FuckViacom4thJuly well said man well said i give you a thumbs up because this should be the top comment

  • Full marks to Joe for getting up after that crushing second knockdown!

  • RIP Joe. I still get chills

  • Joe Frazier: a true class act!

  • RIP Joe Frazier

  • Best call in sports history.

  • @dkbrain3434....Al Michaels "Do You Believe In Miracles?" and Milo Hamilton calling Hank Aaron's 715 HR..were pretty exciting to listen to as well. I do love Cosell's emotion though.

  • RIP Joe, now your no longer down. You are up high!!

  • @MrDriveIn Amen

  • @MrDriveIn

Man, shut that shit up. He's even lower than he was here, because there's no getting up from where he is--and we're due sooner or later in the same dismal place. Shove heaven and God up your ass, get some balls and face reality, and just let the man's memory speak for him.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Your a fucking puke! Go fuck yourself.

  • @MrDriveIn

    Ah, the Christian spirit!

  • @Pizuzuzimmer If you ask me, I hate the shit out of both Spoon fed Religious people and Angsty teenager Atheists equally. One is no better/no more a intellect than the other. Which means that 99% of the worlds population can go fuck itself by my book...

  • @MrDriveIn remember when he fough pac man?

  • DOWN GOES FRAZIER! RIP to one of the legends of a dying sport.

  • RIP smokin joe!!!!!

  • Rest in peace, Joe.

  • That Joe Frazier was able to walk back to the dressing room after that ass beating was nothing short of amazing.

  • I remember seeing a documentary on Cosell. There was a camera on Cosell as he was calling the fight. He was so frantic with adrenaline, his hands were trembling as if he were convulsing. You can hear it in his voice. An absolute great call while trying to keep his emotions in check.

  • The classic moment. Right before the second knockdown, Frazier takes a gigantic left hook that George just barely dodged. I think that was really his only chance in this fight. After the second knockdown, it was pretty much over.

  • Say what you will about Cosell but in this fight an on this telecast he really displayed great boxing knowledge and a great deal of skill in broadcasting an exciting LIVE event. He should have been boxing commissioner.

  • hahahahahahhahahahhhhhhhhhhhh

    like father hit his son

  • man i hate ta take up the whole goddamm comments section but shit everytime i watch this fight i gotta say somthin! smoke got so much heart an determination and thas what its all about in boxing-thats why..what smoke do innis fight, brave or godam stupid, is what we fighters do-the thrill an that rush we drawn to, an that feeling where you jus gotta get back up coz all eyes is on you so you gotta show em whutda fuck you made a... you gotta show em what the fuck you made of.

  • thas why they call smoke "the black marciano". the rock never back down from nothin, like frazier, dem too, you go toe to toe you BEST knock him down, an keep that mothafucka down coz he gnna get up an try an knock ur jaw clear down to ur ass!

  • GAAAAWD DAAAAAMN, JOE!! man joe is brave, but one might argue that he STUPID. foreman knock ME DOWN?-i aint goin right back into 'im, god damn me! ima dance round that mothafucka, do somthin! but goddamn that foreman jus gunna kill someone-i sure felt bad for ol joe but like ali say he cudda been smarter bout this'n...haha dudee-"staaaawp iiiiit! staaaaaawp iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" i dinet know that lilmothafucka cud scream dat loud! lol

  • ...AND FOREMAN IS AS POISED AS CAN BE

    Awesome call.

  • @Fripitto Spot on call.

Ice water flowing through Foreman's veins at that point. He looks as calm as if he was working late shift on a monotonous assembly line in a factory that makes toothpicks.

WHo didn't think that Foreman wasn't going to brutally murder Ali in The Rumble? I would have bet the house on it, if I had owned a house at that time.

  • You can see that Frazier lacks any real skill in dealing with this. Like a retard, he just keeps doing the same thing that got him knocked down. He had no idea how to hold, or move, except for some amateurish running.

If he had, it would have had a chance. Foreman was getting tired. I don't know how a boxer with his style can be so incompetent about knowing how to hold and recover. It's basic stuff.

  • DOWN GOES FRAZIER! DOWN GOES FRAZIER!

  • @bethhlozan Arguably the greatest sports call ever.

  • Frazier showed awesome courage in the face of one of the most devastating displays of punching in boxing history, but in my opinion Yank Durham should have called it after the first round. Frazier was lucky that six of his best friends weren't carrying him out of the church by the handles after this one.

  • GeorgeForeman a great fighter.

  • Howard Cosell was the best play-by-play boxing announcer who ever lived.

He should have freelanced among all the networks; whenever one of them did a boxing match, they'd hire Cosell to call it.

  • @altfactor Also the first person to let the world know during a football game that his close friend John Lennon was pronounced dead.

  • Terrifying fight. Great commentary.

  • with fraziers style you have to give away a bit in order to take some.thats ok when someone like ali is punching you whit the strength of a light heavyweight.he virtualy cant be knock down no matter how many times you punch him(thrilla in manila).but when that someone becomes one of the, if not the greatest heavy hiter of all time,then... well see for yourself. sorry for the bad english

  • 3:11

Foreman nails Fraizer in the back of the head has Fraizer limps away. He asolutely made Frazier his b*tch

  • One more knock down would have Frazier`s coffin nail..Never can forget that MASSACRE

  • A bad matchup for Frazier. Can't swap with a guy 6 inches taller and twice as strong as you.....

  • i saw it.... I SAW IT. foreman reaches the matrix 3:05 his right arm is effing Agent work. what chance did frazier have??? think of it!! one man vs effing George Foreman Also An Agent. that's just......such a downer.

  • Good heavens, this wasn't a fight. It was a massacre. Foreman beat the living snot out of the champ. Foreman was a man on a mission that night.

  • So it's been...what? 38 years since seeing this? Nice little stroll down memory lane to see a classic.

Foreman could've KO'd an elephant with punches like that. How Frazier even got up from some of those is almost as incredible as George's punching power.

  • I'll never tire of watching this country-style ass whippin'

  • It is exciting and a little sad to see a HW champ or any champ get DEMOLISHED like George Foreman did to Joe Frazier did back in 1973.. I was 16 years old and after seeing Foreman in the olympics I said it would not surprise me if he gave Frazier a tough battle I remember most ppl laughed at Foreman`s chances... wish I had a dollar for all the Frazier (can`t lose) ppl.. lol

  • A lot of people today don't realize how huge this was. Frazier had beaten Ali and was considered an unstoppable machine by many. What Foreman did was not only beat him, he destroyed him. He made Frazier look helpless, and knocked him out with some of the hardest punches anyone had ever seen. No one had done anything close to this with Frazier, not even for a few seconds.

After the Roman and Norton fights, people feared that Foreman might actually kill someone with his fists.

  • down goes frazier

  • foreman absolutely pulverized frazier

  • What a time it was. Ali, undefeated, and Olympic Gold Medalist of 1960 is beaten by 1964 Gold medalist and undefeated Frazier in The Fight of the Century in March, 1971. Here in 1973, Frazier runs into the undefeated, 1968 Gold Medalist Foreman, with a style and punch that spelled disaster. On top of that, Don Dumphee gave the call over Closed Circuit while Cossell gave his timeless, legendary call for the following Saturday's ABC Wide World of Sports. Never was the division so great.

  • Probably the best job of announcing a boxing match ever. Cosell was awesome.

  • The famous chant "DOWN GOES FRAZIER, DOWN GOES FRAZER, DOWN GOES FRAZIER", delievered by the immortal Howard Cosell as only Howard could do it. I Love this man. Been waiting for someone to post Howard's announcement of this fight (With all respect to Don Dunphy) Howard is the best!!

  • An absolute demolition which had to shock fight fans of the time. That fourth knockdown where Frazier gets knocked to his knees still gives me chills no matter how often I see it.

  • @dablommer2010 It was such a shock that Newspapers around the Nation took a beating on the Evening News ALL across the country because President Lyndon Johnson died the same day and The Coverage of the Fight was front Page News on practically EVERY newspaper in America!
