In Oklahoma where I live we have conceal carry. But can't carry in courts, city, county federal buildings. Or in a school. We passed open carry with permit but our last govenor vetoed it. I try to see both sides of the issue. But I belive a license holder has been cleared as "not a criminal" and should be able to walk in a school leagally, When the school shooting all happened if a lawbiding citizen would have been there with a gun it probably wouldn't even happened.

Don't think the confrontation was as much about them openly carrying, but WHERE they were openly carrying. They were at the Georgia State Capital building, and firearms are not allowed on or with in the vicinity of there unless you are a P.O.S.T. certified Peace Officer. In the State of Georgia NO ONE including Police Officers (except the ones assigned to the courts) are allowed to carry a firearm inside of a Courthouse. Yes, Even the Police have to remove their firearms.

Most also have Criminal Justice college degrees, years of training, and monthly seminars and weekly in-service trng updates. So they're not dummies. These cops are enforcing some local ordinance which requires firearms from being within certain distances of political rallies, civil demonstrations, etc. We citizens made those laws, and these respectful public servants are enforcing them for us. Hello, A friend's grandfather died a few weeks ago, and he has a vast collections of guns and ammo. Were talking about probably 50-80 assorted guns and rifles and maybe a few thousand rounds He also lives in California and would like to know how to get rid of them and probably get some cash in return. He hates guns and would not keep any. 2 local dealers does not want them since according to them the guns are in horrible conditions. Local P.D does not want them either. Any suggestions?

They are the group that is established by the fed to make sure that those who carry the badge have been properly trained and checks up on backgrounds before we get hired. This is why you carry a paper on your persons some where stating the laws as they are written in the books. When this shit happens you show them these laws, and the consequences for prohibiting you from exercing your rights. You then listen to what they have to say if they continue to tell you, and then you take them to civil court for taking your rights illegally. @lanebatts26 The constitution does state that you cannot disarm a citizen unless committing a criminal act. I do understand the reasoning that public gatherings of multiple persons carrying could lead to an issue. You do not have to have a weapon with no bullets. You just have to have the weapon unloaded. From experience the time it takes to load a clip and have it fire ready is around 3-10 seconds depending on practice. In that amount of time you could have a very serious problem.
Most cops don't like open-open carry because they realize they aren't the only ones walking around with a handgun anymore. Doesn't matter what non-gun enthusiasts think here. The LAW enables us to carry. End of Story.

While open carry is legal in many states, most states have regulations as to where firearms can be carried openly (agree or not). It appears to me that a demonstration is taking place, there are folks across the street gathering at the corner as well as behind the gentleman who is being "detained". The people behind him have flags and signs displayed so it looks like a demonstration/protest to me. Cops should definitely know the law but they usually leave it to the court to interpret/decide.
I live here in GA and its a great state if you like guns, with or without your license to carry... Unlike California, here you can walk around with all the ammo you can carry and with your license there is no limit to how many guns you can carry!!!!

Don't think the confrontation was as much about them openly carrying, but WHERE they were openly carrying. They were at the Georgia State Capital building, and firearms are not allowed on or with in the vicinity of there unless you are a P.O.S.T. certified Peace Officer. In the State of Georgia NO ONE including Police Officers (except the ones assigned to the courts) are allowed to carry a firearm inside of a Courthouse. Hello, A friend's grandfather died a few weeks ago, and he has a vast collections of guns and ammo. This is why you carry a paper on your persons some where stating the laws as they are written in the books. When this shit happens you show them these laws, and the consequences for prohibiting you from exercing your rights. You then listen to what they have to say if they continue to tell you, and then you take them to civil court for taking your rights illegally. @lanebatts26 The constitution does state that you cannot disarm a citizen unless committing a criminal act. I do understand the reasoning that public gatherings of multiple persons carrying could lead to an issue. You do not have to have a weapon with no bullets. You just have to have the weapon unloaded. From experience the time it takes to load a clip and have it fire ready is around 3-10 seconds depending on practice. In that amount of time you could have a very serious problem.

Most cops don't like open-open carry because they realize they aren't the only ones walking around with a handgun anymore. Doesn't matter what non-gun enthusiasts think here. The LAW enables us to carry. End of Story.

People like Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer should be all the examples we need to look at to understand that "law makers" generally have NO CLUE if the new laws they are passing are Constitutionally sound or not. NO form of gun control is Constitutional.... or do I need to explain what "shall not be INFRINGED" means?? Just because some morons in GA passed a law, it doesn't mean that it has legal standing

The key words are a well regulated militia the right of the people to bear arms. Back when this country was born the militia was the civilians there was no police no military. Today we have both so there is security for the free state.

@Highflyer841 i live in a small town in maine. the police response time is 50 minutes. though, i agree with what you're saying, in some cases that isn't realistic. However, this gentleman being close to a federal building, in the city, i do agree with what you're saying and in this circumstance.

@blahblahoww123 I use to live in Jackman Maine and I understand what you are saying help is not always near by. But most people do not use good reason or well though out plans for their carry. Im not gonna show up at the mall with a sidearm. But when I was in jackman I kept my sidearm close but not really for people or animals it was just a tool in a area that was so remote. @Highflyer841 My right to keep and bear arms existed before the U.S., existed before the U.S. Constitution, before police, before the National Guard ( formed by Militia Act of 1903 under Title 10 and Title 32 of the U.S. Code, ) before the State Patrol and before my neighborhood watch. The 2nd Amendment places limits on the FEDERAL government, not me. The 2nd Amendment RECOGNIZES my right- not grants me a right. The Constitution is a piece of paper. My rights do NOT eminate from THAT!

While open carry is legal in many states, most states have regulations as to where firearms can be carried openly (agree or not). It appears to me that a demonstration is taking place, there are folks across the street gathering at the corner as well as behind the gentleman who is being "detained". The people behind him have flags and signs displayed so it looks like a demonstration/protest to me. Cops should definitely know the law but they usually leave it to the court to interpret/decide.

I live here in GA and its a great state if you like guns, with or without your license to carry... Unlike California, here you can walk around with all the ammo you can carry and with your license there is no limit to how many guns you can carry!!!!

Great attitude and demeanor by the grey haired guy in the glasses. Way to keep the conversation pleasant. I would have to read the Georgia laws to know if any "statutes" or "codes" were broken (these are not "LAWS" by the way). These officers seemed to comport themselves well enough during this encounter, whether they were right or wrong. Molon Labe.
