  • Three years later ... This still raqs !!!

  • Wow, that spin/pose at 1:53 was awesome. Talk about feeling the music.

  • Don't listen to what these people are saying. They are just jealous that you came up with your own style, unlike Rachel, and they are having some problems doing that themselves. Great costume, great dance! Keep up the great work : )

  • thanks;)

  • amazing!!!Pliiis tell me what the musik is?

  • I asked Sigal about this music and her answer is that this is a remix of several tracks with some original composition (the drums part).

    Hope that answers your question.

  • If her tribal style is her own why does she wear Rachel Brice inspired clothing? It ends up looking like a bad rip off instead she should embrace her own style of dancing and wear her own type of clothing. This is misleading and doing her wrong!

  • Loved the costume, loved the music, loved your interpretation of tribal style dance.

  • I love the fact you have developed your own style instead of copying rachel brice like most do. Really beautiful and entrancing. I love the music too, who's it by?

  • Blah, blah, blaah lilsweetme3. Can't you just enjoy her dancing. She is amazing and one of an kind. Why does everybody thinks they know how to dance? No movement is owned by any culture, only rediscovered! (sorry for my bad Englisch, i'm a Dutchgirl. By the way Gilboim, do you already know what the music is? Greetzzz Nagine

  • You should especially work on your upper body: arms and hands generally, lower the shoulders, pull back the arms when they're up, pop-and-locking, etc.

Dancers have tremendous responsibility when presenting art (especially to a crowd that is likely unfamiliar with tribal style belly dance).

Don't just rely on the fact that you're already a professional dancer--Please respect the dance and fellow dancers by presenting REAL tribal belly dance!

  • Dear lilsweetme2

Have some respect for your elders....

Sigal Ziv has been a professional dancer since before you were born (if you're indeed 19).

She has her roots in modern dance, and was the lead dancer of Israel's prime folkloric troupe "Inbal", even before she became a raqs sharki dancer.

She does not presume to dance ATS.

She's got her own unique style and TECHNIQUE

  • Dear gilboim,

I agree with some of your points and do apologize for comments interpreted as disrespectful--towards an artist, not an elder (I am not 19...)

I will attempt to clarify what I should have said. Tribal (Fusion) belly dance has branched off from American Tribal Style (ATS) belly dance. There are many diverse tribal belly dancers, but the vast majority is rooted in ATS belly dance (and also flamenco, a major influence of ATS belly dance)—that is the common ground.

  • This common ground is essential in order to respect the roots of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance and more importantly in order to maintain the legitimacy of this art form. If there are no rules or boundaries, then any one can say that s/he is a tribal or tribal fusion belly dancer; (as an extreme example, I have seen plenty of "dancers" dressed in tribal costume and doing no more than eating grapes and posing sexually). This kind of misrepresentation can cause the public to misunderstand what tribal

  • and tribal fusion belly dance is all about. Indeed, it is called "tribal" belly dance because it entails a TRIBE of women dancing and collaborating together (improvising, switching off leadership positions while the rest follow). Obviously in her performance, Ms. Ziv is in no such tribe, and she is therefore not doing "tribal" belly dance.

  • I am confident that Ms. Ziv is indeed a highly regarded modern and raqs sharqi dancer... I did not attempt to insult her art but merely point out that she should present it as her own style, not as 'tribal' belly dance (just as someone who dances hip hop shouldn't call his/her dance a raqs sharqi performance, for example). Especially as an artist she should recognize the importance of giving different art forms their proper (cultural and historical) respect.

  • I'm disappointed. It seems like you're a classical (raqs sharqi) belly dancer playing around with something you're unfamiliar with: tribal belly dance. Have you received any formal training in tribal style belly dance? By the look of it, no. I bet you're a good classical belly dancer, but if you're going to present yourself as a professional tribal fusion belly dancer, then be one. You should respect the art form by studying tribal style belly dance TECHNIQUE (mothered by Carolina Nericcio).

  • סחתיין על הבאת הסגנון לארץ!

  • Sigal Ziv is one of the most talented performer and choreographer living In Israel today. She re-defines the borders of excellence in her field of expertise. Her last performance at Center Suzanne Dalal in Tel Aviv, (March 25, 2008), was truly a magnificent experience.
