  • Great quality from the the great Nithyashree.I love Charukesi.

  • A GREAT RENDITION.

  • when sung with more mastery of the ragam, charukesi becomes one of the most beautiful ragams ive ever heard. this is just my humble opinion. Of course if you have heard the song "raagathil siranthathu raagam ethu?", you would know the answer to which is the most excellent ragam. :)

  • What a voice, what a tonal quality in bringingout the feelings absolutely amazing making people like me unknown he language she is singing. The voice is ear pleasing and at times exhibiting her absolute control on tonal quality and her ability and mastery over Karnatic Classical music. She shines like a diamond star in Blue Sky.

  • I agree with Aravind4230 - this is an average version - some laya issues, and she isn't flowing like Charukesi demands - pretty uninspiring frankly.....

  • don't mean to be offensive (i love gay men!) but i was wondering because that's what i heard!

  • Madam Thamizhisai, 'pal koti noorandu' is the correct version. It has since been maruvified like you say.

  • A popular artist's version is taken as correct. My intention is that others should not take it as right. I have verified 1883 edition of naalaayiram. "pal kodi noorayiramum" is the correct line. In Tamil "kotti" means lunacy. This word is still used in Madurai. This pasuram was rendered first in koodal nagar.

  • My opinion is that she didn't pronounce it as kotti but as koti.. tamil language per se doesn't differentiate in Ta and Da and inclusion of the "word" koti is from sanskrit itself meaning a crore.. sahityam is important in vocal rendition but important are things like swarsthanam and talam

  • charukesi raga swaroopam has been covered in a nice manner.

  • She sings "pal kotti noorandu"

Correct version is "pala kodi noorayiram"

The song is better tuned and rendered by another group in you tube. Don't be carried away by popularity of the singer.

  • could u pls direct me to another version of the varnam as u mentioned?

  • this is crap. y is she singing like a amateur. Well, god bless her. she used to sing so bloody well

  • I like the varnam and the rendition, but as others have said, the talam is off. Charukesi will always be in my favourites! :)

  • It was a usual Nithyssree's rendition. But 'palakodi' was pronounced as 'palkoti' :-(

  • she butchered that varnam... what a shame....

  • Maybe u dont no how to enjoy the song and get to no the intricate phrases sung by Nithyashree...Commenting can be done by any1 but when it comes u,u will suffer the pains urself...its actually shame on u to say that she had butchered the varnam...

  • She actually did butcher the varnam. She has was terribly off thalam, probably due to the mridangist speeding up. Also, she mixed up the order of the lyrics of the second chittaiswaram after the charanam. She sang R, G, SRGM before singing RGMNDPM.

She puts herself on stage as a professional singer, therefore we as the audience are allowed to criticize her. We are paying for the shows, we have every right to say she's wrong if we have reason to back up our statements.

  • Y do u contradict urself when u say she was off talam due to the mridangist speeding up???? Well r u sure that she had actually mixed up the order of the swaras???(R U THAT CONFIDENT TO SAY THAT???) u hv rights onli if the performer deserves to be criticized...and not because u dont like the song... think a thousand time bfore u criticize any professional....

  • She is off thalam. Even if the mridangist speeds up, it is her job as main to retain the speed that SHE wants. And I am purely confident to say that she mixed up the order of the swarams. And I criticize only because she screwed up, not because I don't like the song. In fact, I think melodically, lyrically, and musically, this is one of the best carnatic compositions written to date. I also enjoy Nithyashree, I'm just saying that it is a shame that she screwed up the varnam so much.

  • read above.

  • Could you please point out the place(s) where she is off thalam? I did not feel that she was 'terribly off' anywhere, but I could be wrong.

  • @Cha0s29

Krishna is bhoktaram. The whole presentation is actually meant for Krishna's pleasure. God is the one who is to be pleased, not the audience.

  • ...

  • you are right, quite right. however, i enjoyed this rendition.

  • god bless you nithyasree & carnaticopia

  • Realy superb padha varnam....

    thanks

  • Indeed the Varnam is by Lalgudi Sir....whilst the virutham is a Pasuram by Periazhwar (Aandal's "father")

  • i love charukesi...yum yum!

  • A novel effort. But it is a tradition that the two pasurams "pallandu" and "adiyomodum" are offered together.

  • This is actually a Varnam(Charukeshi) by Lalgudi Jayaraman Sir.

  • Can you elaborate on that? Are you saying the song was composed by him? Surely, the viruttam is older than that.

  • the virutham is traditional, whilst the varnam was composed by Lalgudi Sir.

  • Thanks. Updated info. Also noted that coincidentally, the Hindi film song "Shyam teri bansi" is similar to "kuzhaloodum kaNNan" and is also in chArukEsi.

  • also the Yesudas classic "Krishnakripa Sagaram"
