drifting in this car is like eating spaghetti with a knife. it's not for drifting, it has a good grip so it must handle corners very smooth not slide into them.. :)
In Australia we would get shot for driving like that on the roads and also get the car impounded under hoon laws for making excessive engine noise hahah
@flyboy385 Not a coincidence, all have V10 engines. Add to that the fact that the V10 in the R8 is the same V10 from the Gallardo. Just a little side note: the best sounding V10s are from the Carrera GT and the Lexus ISF
i wanna drive like him, powersliding so fast, long and beautifully. i wanna have the audi r8 v10 cus its my dreamcar. also i would like to go driving in those mountain roads getting the tail oversteer from it in those tight bends but unfortunately, im too young to drive and i cant afford one :(
@gamezandmore ok it's all relative to the capability of the car. Throw Michael Schumaker in a Model T... It is not going to go around that corner like that.
10 years ago, there was a contest on the Hockenheim ring, with a drift demo, and a man managed to take the hole curve sideways in an Integra Type R, which is FWD, without braking, simply with enough speed, then steer and countersteer. Maybe you don't call this Drift but it's the same for me!
I have an Integra TypeR, on a constant radius turn its natural over steer balance at a constant speed is very evident. It's quite unlike almost any other FWD car. Also the LSD helps as the inside wheel spins slightly faster than road speed the outer wheel has grip and delivers power to the road. It's like having the outer wheel front powering you forward more than the inner front one, pushing the nose in. Awesome.
It's a shame most manufacturers set their cars up to under steer on the limit.
Also to clarify the term "drifting" for the ignorant people commenting here:
It's derived from the term "4-wheel drift" meaning that all four wheels are sliding and the car is balanced, neither under or oversteering. It doesn't matter how you get into this state, whether thru weight transfer, braking, applying power to the rear or all wheels. If all four wheels are sliding equally, it's a "drift". You can drift a fwd Diesel van.
Enzo Ferrari uses the term 4 wheel drift in the 1930's!!
"In this way he put the car into a four-wheel drift, making the most of the thrust of the centrifugal force and keeping it on the road with the traction of the driving wheels" Enzo Ferrari circa 1930's
Drifing isnt "oversteer" like wiki says.
Drifting isn't the preserve of awd or rwd cars.
Drfiting is not Japanese.
The term has been high jacked and has now been twisted into meaning something quite different to most people. Oh well!
It's an awesome car, and there are not many things you can do to improve it! I really enjoyed it in the past. Manufacturers set cars like this because customers want their car to act like this, if you want a sport car, with a neutral balance, you have to very well choose your car, whether it is a FWD, RWD or AWD
my R8 is the best out of all my cars i drive it where ever i go and i dont let any1 touch it i even hand wash almost every day to keep it nice and shiny
Oversteer and drifting are different things, You cannot drift a front wheel drive car unless you are on ice. The idea is that the power through the rear wheels push the rear of the car to the point where it wants to overtake the front and spin. However you catch it with opposite lock and modulate the power so it sits half way. Front wheel drive cars cannot do this as they send power to the front of the car. If a front wheel drive car oversteers, its usually under braking, its not drifting.
actually it sends no more than 30% of the torque up front, I recall it being 15% at minimum. But amazing vehicle! I'm on my fourth Audi and my dealership has an R8 V10 that sits near the showroom in the delivery area. Stunning and the engine sound truly is intoxicating! Its a car that really displays Audi's heritage and engineering.
nah... the r8 can DRIFT. This thing is just absolutely nasty with traction control off. The cool thing about the quattro in this car is that it can send almost all of the torque to the rear.
Drowe an Audi R8 V10 two weeks ago. The only issue I really had with it was the gearbox. Not very smooth with the automatic gearbox. When attacking a corner and shifting up it jerks pretty bad (slow shift) and the chassi gets upset. I believe a manual would be better for "hard" driving as it's more predictable doing the shifts on your own manually.
remember that the R8 requires the driver to shift the gears in both semi automatic model and manual model, the semi automatic requires gear shift from either the gear stick or the paddles from the steering wheel, if the shift wasn't smooth then probably you didnt press the button at the correct moment, it happened to me as well until i learned how to shift properly
so sick how when he downshifts it automatically revs the engine like an f1 car or something... I want to have sex with this car

It's not 4wd, it's AWD. Totally different. The reason the R8 can drift is no more than 15% of torque goes to the front wheels.
