  • Thank you so much for this! i just started making videos.

    hope i can improve

  • Now that your videos have made me more critical, my comments are: 1/Trim the first 2 minutes of this video. 2/ CUT OUT the crappy, distracting, completely pointless background music. Thanks for posting.

  • Cool vid guys, thanks

  • I'm chinese. goog job! proud of you lol

  • This was a great help. And I agree wit the whole CG discussion. I've hated CG ever since it ruined Hulk.

  • The rule of thirds guys! Geez, silly mistake. Sort of ironic. Keep it up though i found some stuff useful :)

  • @GrassetteFilms Well, that wasn't the intention of this episode, but yes you're right.

  • u broke the 180 degree rule

  • That's a different lesson. We purposely disregarded that here. Our newer stuff is better :)

  • @elitestar - Aha... So, I wasn't the only person to notice that they crossed the line of action. It's odd how jarring the effect is. Naturally, we don't see a scene from multiple angles but we accept it as natural in cinematography but the moment someone makes a mistake like that, it seems so odd. I've never quite understood why that is. I'm not sure that I would be able to offer a suitable explanation to anyone who asked me.

  • they need a confidence boost...

  • YOU need a confidence boost :P

  • Multiple Single camera setups can be used to shoot realistic and gritty action scenes that keeps every thing in fram and on the same plane

  • Thanks u guys showed everything i wanted to konw about.

  • Really appreciate the tips; u guys are funny in a good way......do u think ur pretty?

  • i dont know if anyone else pointed this out, but in the conversation shots, you did a few things backwards.

ex: first, character 1 MUST be in the right 1/3 while character 2 MUST be in the left third. if both characters are in the same third in each shot then it looks like the person is talking to themself. its called 'rule of thirds'

  • im really sorry if that sounded harsh at all, i didnt mean for it to.

  • Good enough... I've been searching for a decent multi angle, single camera instructional for hours!

  • different directors do whatever it takes to get a great shot...so the three you talk about sounds like ...boring.

  • Hey , you didn't go over the Full & Extreme Close Up shots!

  • Sorry about the many comments.. But could you tell me.. Do film makers actually make the actors do their lines without the other actor responding? Isn't it more natural to have them talking continuously, do a few shoots, different camera angles. And then edit the footage you're gonna need?

  • Oh, I guess that was a little confusing. No, they don't ever really do that. You're right, it's MUCH easier to do the entire scene with all the actors from multiple angles.

We were just showing how things COULD be edited together.

  • Completely agree with your view on the CGI... Was just discussing this with a friend the other day... It's destroying so many movies today.

  • Yeah, definitely. Long gone are the days of massive set design and animatronics.

  • good episode, stopped to make a comment wheni was on play all mode. You did forget a very important rule that you guys went against. When showing shot 1 and 2 combined you guys forgot about the 180 degree rule, which if you cross can confuse the audience very much

  • Well, rules are made to be broken I guess :)

  • yeah true, but for your good the 180 degree rule is very important. The group "videomaker" has an good video on it

  • I believe that as long as the cinematography doesn't distract or confuse the audience, it's fine. I suppose in your case, you were "aware" of the cinematography so it's a different story.

But yeah, the 180 degree rule is definitely important and shouldn't be broken without good reason.

  • yeah much agreed

  • Yeah, but maybe not in a tutorial on how to make films, no? ;)

  • Haha, true true.

  • very great video, so informative, so intersting, and so great shooting, i like your style guys...go on wish you all the best, thanx alot.

  • Thanks for the kind words, we're always glad to help :)

  • So, if I only have one camera, I would have to do Shot 1, and then again do Shot 2 which will needs actors to do the acting again and few things might be difference in both the scenes?

  • Typically, they don't do the ENTIRE shot over again from a different angle. As long as you overlap the action a little bit, it'll give you more to edit with. So the second shot can be different, but it starts the way the first shot ended.

  • how many cameras did you use to make this?

  • Just one :)

  • thanks that's basic.

  • informative and very entertaining

    well done.

  • How did you guys do the editing while in Vegas? Did you cut out each question and answer first then piece them together? Or did you place them on separate tracks and line them up ON TIME with each other and split from there?

  • Hmm, sort of a mixture. You kinda just throw the shots on different tracks, cut them and move them around until it's how you want it. Sometimes you only need one track, sometimes it's easier to use multiple. As long as you understand the basics and know what you want the final product to be, assembling it in editing should be fairly simple.

  • Very informative. Thanks.

  • Sure thing :)

  • ok i have 3 questions, i would be much obliged if you could answer:

    1. how did you cut between the long and medium at 3.50, it doesn't look like you recorded it twice because your voice continues between shots.

    2. what camera/editing software are you using?

    3. why are your hairs so cool?

    ps 5 star video

  • 1. Do you mean when it cuts to a master shot at 4:31? We recorded all the audio during the medium shot and then filmed the master shot later. If I remember correctly, Peter's voice actually IS continuing. We just cut the video.

    2. Panasonic AG-DVX100A and Sony Vegas Pro 8.0

    3. HAH! We both needed a haircut :)

    Thanks!

  • wow thanks for replying so quickly.

Sorry i actually meant 5.30 not 3.50... where you cut from the master shot to a medium shot, and your voice carries on over the cuts.

  • Ah, yeah. The audio that was used during the master shot was recorded during the medium shot that followed.

  • You guys jump the line on your over-the-shoulder shots.

  • Yeah, these old episodes were terrible, lol

  • I still enjoyed it. You guys make a good team. Just thought I'd mention it since this is educational. Are you guys using lavs? The sound quality was very even and nice. People forget how tough sound is.

  • Well, thanks :)

All we have right now is a cardioid that we mount above us. We'll probably end up using lavs or getting a third person with a boom to do audio in the future.

  • Where did you get the music? You guys are good.

  • Thanks :)

We have a complete list on our site: takezer0 . com / music

  • i love your guys vids...

but i think you might find...what is "cg" what "isn't"

    is getting very blurred...

i dont know if its still there but ILM had a think on there site where you guess what is cg and what isn't from pirates....cg is my life....i was surprised....

anyway...thatx for all the tips :)

  • love the awkwardness

  • very interesting. go go go

  • sean, you don't like girls? Are you gay? ; ) or did you just make that up?

  • Haha, no no. Peter edited it to make me look bad!

    I like girls ;)
