I really hate how police and other public servants are held to a higher moral standard than the rest of us. They are people just like us, there would not be all of this outrage if i were caught on camera doing what he is doing. It just ridiculous.
If police and public figures were not held to a higher standard, it would be a complete disaster. There is already too much corruption but if you remove that higher standard that we place on public officials, the level of chaos and corruption would be exponentially greater than it is right now. We would basically become a third world country. I lived in West Africa for two years so I've seen first hand how corruption and lack of accountability hurts a county's development.

Actually police aren't allowed to be in uniform when not on duty. As a paramedic, in the case of any controversy I'm presumed at fault until cleared. I think the officer should be charged with public indecency and receive disciplinary action from the police department. He will never be taken seriously by criminals if they recognize him. And what about children? Any child could have seen this, I don't think that is okay. I think it is inappropriate that they are in public AND inappropriate that he is in uniform. Both show that he disregards the law which I doubt makes him a great police officer.

If police and public figures were not held to a higher standard, it would be a complete disaster. There is already too much corruption but if you remove that higher standard that we place on public officials, the level of chaos and corruption would be exponentially greater than it is right now. We would basically become a third world country. I lived in West Africa for two years so I've seen first hand how corruption and lack of accountability hurts a county's development.

I can't deny the infrastructural problems in Africa. But that stems from slavery. That's another tangent though. I'm saying it's not realistic to assume that having a certain job, even a job like president, doesn't make you "higher". Everyone's entitled to an opinion but you're gonna be able to change my mind on this so trying is a waste of time. It's very realistic and necessary to expect better judgement from public officials. Like I said, I've seen the results when it's not done. We're lucky enough to not have that level of blatant corruption here due to an accountability that doesn't exist in other places. Public officials shouldn't take that job if they can't handle that standard.

Actually police aren't allowed to be in uniform when not on duty. As a paramedic, in the case of any controversy I'm presumed at fault until cleared. That's how the system is designed, both of those things being ways to safeguard the public. Even if it's his girlfriend, there is no context in which it's acceptable.

That's not completely true. I have a friend (A Denver cop) who wears his gear when commuting. What are the regulations for police uniforms in Santa Fe?
