I, too, spent a good many years of my childhood in Claremont. I went to the Public school, and I spent most of my early-mid teen years here. A gorgeous place, it damn well better not get zoned for the airport. This town has been developing beautifully for the past twenty years, and it would be a slap in the face for them to destroy it. I still drive trough it every once in a while just to take in the magnificence.
By the way..the first part of this video...Barkey's?
Yes I heard about the general store...very sad. Back in the 70's it was the BP Gas Station, the Co-op and the General Store and we had what we needed.
I live twenty minutes from there. We thought about moving to Claremont but the pending/possible new airport put that plan on hold. We'll have to see what happens.
omg, i live in claremont now and i saw the gen store burn to ground. I cried the whole time. There were fire trucks from all over though, they put in a real effort to put it out. Stoufville, pivkering and york all pitched in to help out...so sad
I live in Chile....as a child I remember we had a small old house near Claremont in 1966. A man named Mr. Pugh lived at the bottom of the hill. There was an abandoned ski resort behind the house. Beautiful country.

I was born in Claremont, infact, William Michelle, the man who founded the town in 1838 was my great great great great fandfather.
I bet you already know, but today the general store burnt down, what a shame, it was the oldest store in ontario that was still operating...

Yep, cant forget the hardware store, my grandfather worked there for over 40 years.
Its sad to see all the new houses going in the town, theres a great big subdivison going in northeast of town.

Yep, too sad that its gone now, but im glad its being rebuilt.
The houses next to the store seem to be gone too, so the new one might be quite big.
