Seems you can't listen to Radiohead these days without comparisons to Muse. So here's my comparison: Muse is to Radiohead as The Monkees are to the Beatles.
my favorite parts of the song is the guitar from 0:29-0:37. but i love the whole song in general. Radiohead id say is today's Pink Floyd, and thank god for that because majority of music today has gone to shit.
There are few band that can make me feel the way that Radiohead makes me feel, I can't really describe it... euphoric? Orgasmic? Even those are understatements.
I can't help but get the feeling that at the start of this film Thom Yorke was hating every minute of it. From some of these frames you can just imagine someone telling him instructions and he replies "What, like this? I feel like a fucking idiot."
Anyone else get that feeling.
But supremely cool premise, Thom Yorke stumbling through old English fables. Loved the cat wedding, i see that peter rabbit was attending.
I immediately thought of Human Behavior by Bjork, which is not to say that this video is a copy of that, but it certainly has the same sort of feel. Which is great, because I love them both, and of course the music in both videos is of a very high quality.
I love the idea that he's observing these little animals in these affectionate human-like scenes but because he's a human he can't very well be a part of them. A anxiety-suffering depressed and alienated person might view others this way - as would someone who has been alienated from normal life through fame.
Then the forest devours him and he becomes another tree. Gives it a very fairy tale nightmares ending.
Personally I would have loved to see Thom have friendly interaction in this tho.
I hate this version of the song, the live acoustic version recorded in paris is my favourite radiohead recording of ALL time...its on youtube, find it
I think it was inspired by Bjork's song - Human Behaviour. I think Thom once quoted that her song Unravel was his most favorite and a big inspiriation.
....But if u ask me i say if u watch the video it may help because of the symbolism but "Just 'cause you feel it doesn't mean it's there," i think its outside influences telling you not 2 believe as 4 when he said "There's always a siren Singing you to shipwreck, (Don't reach out, don't reach out Don't reach out, don't reach out)Steer away from these rocks, We'd be a walking disaster" outside influences at times try 2 make you feel as if your intentions r misconceptions,
Perception is entitled 2 each individual, as 4 2 individuals could look at a painting & have completely different opinions, this we all know. The only that way we mite know if we talked 2 the artist themselves, but music is like parables 1 person could at one time feel one thing and at another time feel another with the same song, this we all know. But who is 2 say one perception is wrong and another is rite, or all of them is rite, or sum of them is wrong, this we all know.....
They are all perceptions of truth and correlations of information assessed by relations of truth created through repeatedly perceived patterns. They are all correct.
what sets radiohead apart is that they dont give a shit who muse is and it should be vice versa just enjoy both groups as seperate bands and maybe life might get a little easier for im not a bullshit youtube critic im out gangsta
Muse is great and I'm a huge fan but what set's Radiohead a part is the lyrics. Yorke's lyrics are freakin genius. Some of the best lyrics ever written. He's talking about stuff that's..... godly.. Similar to Pink Floyd in that it's all about evolution and becoming mentally powerful. that's why at the end of the day Radiohead may go down as one of the best ever and Muse will be far behind.
Whatever that last muse hit was with all the cowboys and shit in the video... the melody was straight stolen from the end of paranoid android... Muse is a joke...
@poopyscoopy5 It is similar, but it is by no means "straight stolen" you are silly. Muse and Radiohead are both phenomenal band, and it's foolish to compare the two, because they are two completely different bands who only shared an inkling of a relationship at the start of their careers, both have branched off to entirerly different planes now, in short both are fantastic.
@ErikGrizzly i've never heard anyone remotely like radio head before or since they are definately something worlds apart from everything in music, tom should be in films he's be so amazing.
Radiohead's lyrics are a clear cut above Muse's. In addition, I believe that Radiohead's songs, by and large, seem much less pretentious than a lot of Muse's.
But regardless, I have a great deal of respect for both bands. Hope that they keep making great music for a long time.
Muse have some absalutly awsome songs (exogenisis, the whole album of of Absolution) but really, what where they thinking on the new album? Exogenisis was the only bearable thing on it, the rest was simply pop songs and sellouts. And a really shite Queen homage.
Muse can only wish they had half the talent that radiohead had when they came out with pablo honey......there's no other band out there that can compare with the talent level every member of the band has now.....don't believe me, watch scotch mist the 52 minute whole thing.....
in fact i think even though muse was inspired in rh's pablo honey, that showbiz was a stronger album than "honey" but radioheads and muses music took different choices and id say theyre both genius in theyre own way... and if you think muse sucks youve probably only heard the most poppy mainstreamy songs.. (supermassive bh, starlight) hear some absolution... (blackout)
it's the radio edit. repeated parts of sections are usually cut in half for music videos for two reasons. one: it helps with the flow of the visuals so they don't have to repeat similar shots throughout a section and two: to retain peoples attention when "less catchy" parts of songs are drawn out. great songs fall victim all the time
But search THERE THERE LIVE here on YouTubes to see Thom sing and play this song so lusciously on acoustic guitar, it makes the original electric version seem secondary.
Radiohead's songs invoke so much imagery. If you close your eyes you feel like you're in the woods. In Weird Fishes, you're underwater. It's great stuff.
Was never big into Radiohead. Then I saw this video when I was really stoned, back when it first came out. Since then I've gotten into them in a big way. I could write a thesis on how amazing they are.
thom Yorke looks different in all of his videos. In "Just" he has orange hair. In Creep his hair is blonde. and in this his hair looks blackish-brown.
