  • Any chance of getting these guys to fly CIVILIAN Big Jets instead of CARGO. Think of the lives that are at risk if they are still flying cargo jets. I going on holidays later on this year and I was just wondering CAN I BOOK THEM ASAP.!!!!

  • Their landing must have been cushioned by their HUGE GIANT ENORMOUS balls! I vote Ballsiest motherfuckers ever award!

  • skillful pilots.

  • Hahahahahahaha you motherfuckers couldn't shoot em down. Shows your lack of skill even though the ones responsible will never see this, fuck you and do me a favor! DIEEEE!!!! Nice flying gentleman.

  • after mobius one left the ISAF, he became a commercial airline pilot

  • If the Flight Engineer was replaced by a computer, I wonder if the result would still have been the same.

  • @SupaCurry Well it does not replace the engineer even though his position is technically gone. yes there is more automation but through crew resource management the pilots can still crossfeed the fuel but you may be right sometimes its better to have two guys up there other times it helps to have a third set of eyes.

  • That is pretty wild. I know that I dont ever want to win a "memorial" award.

  • Not this time Darwin.

  • Guys here is the real shotdown video

    watch?v=ao_LcvJv7io&feature=related

  • The minefield was a nice touch...

  • Thats why you have to keep the 30,000 feet before landing.. trust me.. its one hell of a landing.

  • that simulation was FAIL! thumps up if you agree

  • the xplane dudes need a better pc.

  • @350z350zify Too bad it was X-Plane for Ipad. :/

  • hmmm...didn't know airbus could look like a 777 in simulation, triple boogie?, tail cone and apu compt.

  • Awesome video

  • jesus christ.....learn to relax man!!!!!

  • what are the odds of the missile hitting the plane? I mean the plane must of been travelling at 250 kts when it got hit. I guess they have good aim :S

  • @TheOne131

It was a surface-to-air missile. They are designed to shoot down high speed aircraft.

  • PRO SHIT!

  • great crew

  • I think this crash is 100x better than the Hudson River crash of US Airways flight 1549. This is so much more amazing.

  • I agree with you but this incident will never receive the same recognition.

    1) It was a cargo plane with no passengers to have been saved (removes the "hero" worship scenario)

    2) Happened in Baghdad, far away from most of us.

    3) There are very few images of it available. 1549 has video of the landing and rescue.

Not at all to take away from 1549 (that one was also very cool), but this incident was one of the most amazing feats in the history of aviation.

  • Same

  • @airbusandmustang I wouldn't take anything away from the Hudson incident - especially given that they were in the center of one of the most populated areas in North American with passengers aboard. Both were simply incredible and a FIRST in aviation history. I can't help but notice that both are also Airbus aircraft (I like Boeing equally, but it's especially interesting considering the survivability of the recent Qantas Airbus (A380) incident. Strong birds and good pilots = happy ending

  • @EstorilEm Haha come to think of it, all 3 Airbus incidents were horribly crappy luck; giant flock of geese during climb-out, terrorist surface-to-air missile hit, and exploding rolls-royce engine (end resulting massive hole in wing, fuel leak, imbalance, loss of some hydraulics, etc)

This stuff may freak some people out, but it actually makes me feel safe - modern aircraft are amazing feats of engineering.

  • Thats a bad day for those guys, get hit by a missle, loose all control, draining fuel tank and landing in a mine field.

  • It's total apnty wastes like you that make people actually give damn a reason to leave the web. What?? Are you 5? I'd personally like to rip your ass apart with my gov't issued can opener.

  • @wanibaby Shabafoozan?.

  • Sounds almost like United 232.

  • may name is porra do carai!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is british airways 777!!!

  • man, airbus just doesn't make 'em like this anymore.

  • Thank God, you would think Airbus would have learned something from the DC-10 fiasco at Souix City. Put hydraulic fuses in the system.

  • Aircraft should have a redundancy, a voting logic! It is greed that sends us into the skies without safety-critical systems.

  • Yes, we must immediately build passenger-airlines SAM-proof! Seriously, not even military aircrafts can do that...

  • Haha! I was thinking more along the lines of cables. But in this scenario... counter-measures would have helped.

  • unfortunately as it stands the aircraft with flares would not be allowed near most airports due to the extreme fire risk.

  • How do you figure your post has anything to do with greed?

  • Many aircraft, including most military aircraft, DO have reduntant hydraulic systems, but many lines are often routed together by necessity. An aircraft can only be so reduntant... until it just weighs too much to be effective.

  • wow...o.o

  • Comment removed

  • amazing

  • this reminds me of the same situation that United 232 in Sioux City, but DHL came out ahead. When will aircraft producers find alternative or backup to hydraulics? You lose that you are f'ed! Go back to cables and pulleys

  • The 787 is incorporating individual hydraulic power drive units for all flight control surfaces, so your dilemma is solved.

  • what an incredible story

  • I'll fly with these three any time...!

  • great pilots and tons of blessing maked a happy ending possible.

  • très beau reportage d'Arte sur le sujet !!!

  • DHL probably fired them for damaging the plane

  • amazing...

  • I bet your mom shot it.

  • No... stupid, ignorant, backward, retarded, homosexual, evil and satanic muslims did. In other words... just your ordinary terrorist.

  • Actually, if a Muslim extremist was homosexual, he'd be killed by his brethren. You were close though!

  • Ahhh... I stand corrected!

  • Comment removed

  • wow to the pilots

as for the *&*$"&*%% on the ground shooting I can only hope one day the rocket fails to leave the launcher and happily wipes them all out :)

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing story. But how primitive does a missile have to be to miss a jet liner lol? But seriously, amazing feat.

  • Comment removed

  • The C130 I was riding on in to Baghdad after taking leave was shot at with an RPG. Talk about a wild ride and man were we close to the ground. Great pilots!!

Was a little grumpy after that when rolling out on patrol.

  • so why were they fired upon?

  • Because thats what the bad guys do.

  • since when has an A300 had 6 wheels under each wing !

  • Since NOW Mr. Bond. It seems that some of the animators didn't quite get their inteligence about airliner design ;)

  • Hmm Probably hit it on take off i would say, otherwise. Where did they get an advanced surface to air missile?

    Cough Cough Iran

  • WOW take a breath...

  • I was thinking the same exact thing... WOW!

  • The pilots later took up heavy drinking as their new career choice!

  • @MilesB1975 i would of

  • Terrorist thought it was probably airforce 1 or something, fucking dumb derka derka's!

  • or they think it is a military cargo plane

  • You don't know what a terrorist is.

  • i know what a terrorist is

  • fuck you, i AM a terrorist!

  • terrorists ARE too dumb, they shot a cargo plane, thinking that it's an F-15???

  • That's the reason it wasn't an F15

  • It's dangerous naivety to think that all terrorists are stupid.

  • all terrorists are stupid you dumb fuck. if they had any sense of justice or a grasp of right from wrong they would think about the world that they are leaving for their children. lack of education and stupid brainwashing muslims are the blame

  • Case in point. Naivete at it's finest.

  • Sorry - "its."

  • Yeah right, freedom fighters that shoot missiles at DHL jets. you're a FUCKING LOSER, mate !

  • On the other hand Muslims are no more retarded than Christians or Jews.

Yeah right - so if they're told blowing the shit out of themselves and others gets them a nice house in heaven and 25 or so virgins to defile, they believe it.....sounds retaded to me!

  • who are ALL terrorists? you seem a little misguided in your rant. some so called terrorists were the ones that fought against slavery, are greenpeace terrorists? are the burmese freedom fighters terrorists? was it a terrorist who tried to overthrow the democratically elected president of chile by kidnapping him ( in case you dont know that was an american led endeavour) . people who continually use the word terrorist to represent an enemy are proven to have symtoms of being brainwashed.

  • karmali kaka .

  • Well done to the crew. Stupid terrorist cowards,

  • god these fuckin terorists are sooooooo frekin stupid that its...just i dont know how to explain it. like shooting at a DHL plane?...o wait wat the fuck is DHL?? wats a plane?

  • Crazy! Godlike skills from the crew onboard.

  • fukin terrorists. why would u shoot at an airbus.

  • i doubt they even know wat airbus is....probably think its a flying bus. damn terrorshits r so dumb

  • fukin retards.

  • First Class Crew. What an amazing feat of flight!

  • so thats what happened to my christmas present!!! what airfield did they finally land at? how long was the runway?

and in true DHL tradition, did they get a parking ticket, lol?

  • wicked job by the pilots! Makes me proud!

Also, it gives the finger to the terrorists that did this and says "NICE TRY ASSHOLE!!"

Too bad they couldn't get an A300 to do the animation, and had to use a 777.

  • Pilots are some amazing Mother F**kers.

  • you couldn't have said it any better man!

  • WHOA

  • That's quite a resume, don't you think?

  • dam that was a mouthful

    also, what was the cargo?

  • mail

  • dead terrorist !!!

  • are you trying to be funny? if you are, then keep trying.

  • your reply to my dead terrorist comment is a waste of your time ! my wish is that the terrorist who shot this airplane would be hunted down and killed and their carcuses thrown in that airbus for the rats to eat ! as of about 1 year ago the airbus was still sittin where it came to rest minus some parts.

  • "Fucken savages." -Walter Sobchak

  • Landing a plaen that is on fire, with no controls, leaking fuel and then having to avoid a frigging minefield?! Shit this looks an awful lot like an episode of family guy...

  • Sounds a lot like UAL 232 at Sioux City in 1989.

  • My thoughts exactly. 232 all over again.

  • The pilot of this flight had seen a presentation made about thrust vectoring being the only means of controlling UAL 232... it was that which gave him the idea to try it here.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes! Exactly! I was thinking the same thing. Almost duplicate situation to United Airlines Flight 232. Captain Al Haynes of that United Flight called Captain Sullenberger after the Hudson River crash landing.

  • bloody baghdad for u

  • 1000 dollars for the first on this page that offers a valid Airman Certificate Number. I'm that sure that there is not one comment here by a certified pilot, A&P or IA. I have made that offer at least a dozen times and still have the money.

  • I can. I know you won't pay up, though.

  • Your not on this page??

  • why would anyone put their cert number up i certainly wouldent

  • What do you think could happen? Most of the people on YT couldn't find the bathroom door from the inside. I'm not worried. If you have a ACN, message me with it. I'm doing this because I would like people to know that 99% of what is posted on these aviation pages is bullshit.

  • Here you go: Commercial Pilot Airplane single&Multi-engine Land, Instrument Airplane, CL-65 The number is 2721003 last issuance on May 27 2007. So where would you like to send the $1000? I'll gladly take a donation : )

  • Your not on the page, well now you are. The instructions were clear, sorry my friend. I had one particular person in mind and that person has closed his(or her) account. If your number is good you get 2 hours free or instructor time in an Extra 300L. message me for details.

  • 99% of what gets posted on every youtube video is BS...not just aviation vids! i'll just comment that if this is a true story, these guys are geniuses for understanding the problem, solving, and mastering it in such a short amount of time. i remember a fews years back when some commercial jets had a freezing problem which caused a solenoid in the elevators to reverse...and it took two crashes till another pilot adapted and reversed his normal correction to save the plane and passengers.

  • perfect example. Some really strange stuff happens from time to time and as you said It's rare for a flight deck crew to get it right the first time. Better to be lucky.

  • Partially right... it was rudder actuation not elevator. :) It was a poorly designed solenoid for the 737 that actually allowed fluid to flood both ends of the valve if the rudder pedals were struck too hard. Once the fluid had entered the wrong side, no amount of strength on the pedal would reverse it.

  • kickZtailout- wow you have solved the rudder problem that boeing couldn't!! and on you tube!!! there was me thinking the 5 AD's so far that have been issued would make a difference!

  • I can assure you this story is true...colleagues of mine...happened on nov 22 2003 with aircraft OO-DLL

  • Amazing flying. Whats more amazing is that the narator doesn't take a breath for 4 minutes.

  • see iraqi is safest country in the world.wat goes up must come down.

  • Iraqi? you mean Iraq :P

  • About as shock-and-awe as it gets.

  • I think I would have bought a lottery ticket after that.

  • GREAT video!!

  • Talk about a bad day. Struck by a missile, loss of fuel, loss of hydraulic power, structural damage, and then crash landing in a mine field. Some one buy those guys a round or two. Good job!

  • xplane rocks lol

  • forget X-plane. this is something ive never seen or heard of. um wow! amazing landing.

  • Sounds like they had the same problem a certain DC-10 had a few years back, lousy design and engineering. Total loss of hydraulics, how unacceptable.

  • Did you not watch the story? The plane was hit by a bloody missile! I dont care how good its built, thats gonna cause some damage! lol

  • You missed my point. A well designed hydrualic system has "fuses" built into the system. These " fuses" act as shut off valves to keep a total hydraulic fluid loss from happening in case of exstensive damage to a section of the system. The DC-10 didn't have the fuses and it looks like Airbus dosen't either.

  • those valves are called checl-valves, and I can assure you that they're installed on A300/B4 today

  • yeah Airbus planes are pretty well built alright

  • And when they got out of the airplane and kissed the ground, they all said,"Thank you, Captain Al Hayes and company for giving us the knowledge to do this."

    Incredible airmanship.

Side note: Only stupid Haji terrorists can't shoot down a JETLINER with multiple heat seeking missiles...

  • great video, well told and x plane sim footage

  • The professionalism these fellows showed is nothing short of amazing. Their display of problem solving skills under severe pressure is admirable indeed.

    Thanks for the video.

  • schweizer müsste man sein, denn die haben die dhl-maschine KONSEQUENT NACH UNTEN GEHOLT! (allerdings frisst der verantwortliche fluglotse jetzt würmer aufm zentralfriedhof)

  • God bless them

  • Amazing.

  • 10FPS almost normal? This guy don't know what he's talking about 200FPS (feet Per Seconds) is called a greaced landing. 10FPS is god on an airplane!

  • Mate... envision a 200ft/s sink rate. Do it now. As a hint I´ll tell you that this is a bit less than the top speed a human will reach in free fall.

10 ft/s however equals 600 ft/minute which is a vertical speed any modern aircraft has to be able to survive with landing weight.

The GREASED landing you speak of is around 200-250 ft/minute.

  • I'm pretty sure you mean 200 feet per minute. If you drop 200 feet in one second, that's quite an impact.

  • good work guys

  • Too bad it wasn't you getting shot down, that would have been good.

  • Thats the only thing you could do... insead of dying.

  • "...but earning the right to keep on living was probably reward enough..." amen to that!

  • those are some awsome flying skills. WoW. steering the thing with the engines. nice, great.

  • Jebus.. I want these guys flying my plane next time I travel.. Too bad it was a cargo plane, otherwise they would of been big time heroes.

  • And that DHL plane still sits at Baghdad International Airport, on the ramp. All it needs is two working engines.

  • how do you know?

  • I was just there May-September 07 at Sather Air Base, which is at Baghdad International Airport. That DHL plane has been cleaned of decals, although you can still see the paint fade of where it said DHL. Just before I got there, they had two new engines placed in, and fired them up, but forgot to remove the wrenches and destroyed the engines. So there it still sits.

  • are you into planes or do you work for DHL?

  • I am firefighter for the U.S. Air Force. So I guess I am into planes. Plus I fly an ultralight aircraft.

  • good stuff, have you seen the air thompson emergency landing at manchester UK on here?

  • you crazy horse lol

  • and how about the wing?

  • 0ohh
