  • Beatles rules and whatever but Ringo just isn't that great a singer. This is a great cover. Do not hate! <3

  • I like he doesn't sing into the mic! :-)

    FAKE FAKE :D

  • @CF2840 Most of the artists on Top of the Pops lip-synched. It looks like Marti had some fun with it here! :)

  • @SuperMyfamily01 Artist weren't allowed to lip sync on Top Of The Pops

  • @Kaynas1988 Really, you think so? I suggest you read the Wikipedia article on TOTP (seems as reliable a source as any). Also, why don't you check out this You-Tube video of Oasis on TOTP -- watch?v=oUTL2jSRIgE -- where they're obviously lip-synching (Noel is "singing" while Liam's voice is being played) and it seems all except the drummer aren't even playing their instruments. There are other examples of people deliberately lip-synching badly on TOTP that I could direct you to.

  • @SuperMyfamily01 Well they were supposed to sing live but some artists lip sync if they had a specific reason on why they had to lip sync but like you said Marti was and no thanks I've seen loads that lip sync on TOTP apart from Oasis, there's S Club 7, S Club Juniors (with the exception of One Step Closer), Girls Aloud, Kings Of Leon, Sugababes, Holly Valance, Westlife, Hear'say, Kym Marsh, Blue, Wet Wet Wet, A*Teens and loads more.

  • Serious question.. has anyone EVER seen marti pellow not smiling? It never rains on that mans planet! and if more people saw the same thing, the world would be a happier place

  • oh yes aside from having a wonderful voice...Mart is definitely sexy and hot :)

  • Love this! Remember watching it!!! :) x

  • 10 people like justin "the BELL END" Bieber

  • 18 years old seen them live brilliant cant be beaten better than half the music these days :P

  • No. 1 when I was born...

  • I didn't even know Wet Wet Wet did a version of With A Little Help From My Friends till I saw the music video on the TV the other night, but saying that I wasn't even born when this got to number 1 in the charts

  • 8 people like justin beiber

  • Not bad for cover version number 1 for 11 weeks in May 1988.

  • I actually like this version ",)

  • I know this song is performed by different artists.

I like most of them, all in an different way.

  • marti pellows good wonder what his doin now

  • @bimbimbutterbean Im sure he still writes music, he went solo for while couple years ago.

  • this song pisses me off

  • @bimbimbutterbean It's not that bad for cover.

  • Ringo is good, and the Beatles are perfect. But this is an okay cover :)

  • who cares whos better, the wets raised a helluva lot of money for childline with this cover, their live version is awesome!!:)

  • @pellowsprincess And this got to number 1 too.

  • and this was a no.1 hit single.

  • @ml2001 Yep for 11 weeks.

  • WAW SOOOO LONG AGO

i was just a kid ........i wish i could go back to being a kid again ......

  • @rahooomi Yeah what age were you then, i was just 4, but my dad had this single and most Wet Wet Wet stuff.

  • If I remember rightly Wet Wet Wet did this for Childline.

  • who cares who was better, they both did well in sales so both did well and noone was better,, those who skit need help from there friends.. duech bags,, and im a brit

  • The Beatles' version is way better in my opinion.

  • Im sure this was for children in need

    so stop the whos better

  • I didn't even know it was for Children in Need.

  • I think i made that up :)

    some bell was ringing

  • As stated at 1.05 it was from an album of Sgt Pepper by current pop stars. It was called "Sgt Pepper knew my Father" to raise money for childline. I think the B-side of this single was Billy Bragg singing "she's leaving home"

  • @SuperSpyroFan : i think the wets would agree - they just disliked the joe cocker version and re-introduced it to the british public to raise (a lot of ) money and awareness for childline . . they made it a #1 (likeJC) unlike the Beatles' original :O)

  • beatles version is 10 times better. this is country crap

  • yep unfortunatly for beatles fans, wet wet wet's version was better

  • I like this version. Ringo, for all his qualities, wasn't the greatest singer.

  • im dissapointed thought it would live up to the beatles but they could'nt of course i mean the beatles are rock ledgends

  • I'm so dissappointed that they're lip synching, I know they're an awesome band, but they didn't even seem to be trying to keep up the illusion that they were singing into the mics!

  • the guy playing the drums is my uncle

  • Is it just me who thinks this is easily the best version? Can`t stand cocker`s or the beatles` versions.

  • This is basically The Beatles version, only with some vocal riffage and a change in octave every once in a while. Joe Cocker did a lot more with the song than this version, although his might not be better. Also, the little bit of guitar improvisation behind the last refrain is kind of cool.

  • marty at his best

  • this is nothing as extravagent as joe cockers version and pretty much sounds the same as the beatles version except a little more lame

  • i like this version :D im looking for an upbeat version and this is pretty upbeat but i want a really good quality version, maybe something more recent? anyone know? hmm. id love to hear john mayer sing this song..

  • There's this band called The Beatles, and they're pretty high quality and they're pretty upbeat.

  • este inglés era más bueno que el pan!

  • Marti was 23 that year.

  • Saw Marti last week in Witches of Eastwick, he was fan daby :-)

  • we used to sing this in school assembly - random

  • My school used to do this in assembly too. Also I used to be in love with Marti Pellow when I was a little girl, according to my family I used to either try and kiss the screen when he came on telly or stare at him lovingly :$

  • Bless - he is quite fit though!

  • i prefer marti pellow with short hair

  • Marti Pellow the love of my live when I was 20, we followed him around Dublin one night after he had performed, we were young we had cars and we had access to the nightclub he went to. OOOOh he was soo gorgus

  • I have always called this a "Sesame Street" song. LOL. I like it though....

  • I think this version is a little more loyal to the Beatles version than Joe Cocker's version, whilst benefiting from better vocals (comparing Pello to Starr).

  • Joe Cocker Version will always be the best version of this song!!!

  • gerryMATW- McCartney This, MaCartney That

  • I LICK THAT

  • This isn't as good as Ringo Starr's version

  • It's not (even though Marti Pellow has a better voice). That said, it wasn't a Ringo solo recording, it was a Beatles recording (arrangements by McCartney, production by George Martin, etc).

  • Ringo didn't set the bar too high with his vocal of this. Marti didn't cover himself in glory either. (Sorry for the pun. I'm bored).

  • I worked at BBC TV Center in White City 1987-1991 and I was in the spectator's gallery when this was recorded - Marti is SO sexy! Hard to believe it was 20 years ago!!

  • This was number 1 the week i was born!

  • Same here i just read a comment on another song where somebody said the same thing, so i check the charts for my birth day! 09-06-88 Ireland :-)

  • This is the best song ever!

i'm learning it in my school

  • Don't forget that Paul McCartney wrote it! It's on the Beatles album "Sgt. Pepper" and if you haven't heard it, check it out. Listen especially for McCartney's bass p[laying which is much more interesting than on the Wets version.

Marti sings this very well, though. :)

  • i adore wet wet wet! thank u!

  • MARTI,YOUR THE MAN!!!
