I remember this storm. It was the BIGGEST thunderstorm I've ever seen. My backyard was three inches underwater. My garage door was being lifted up by the wind (this was before we got a roller door). It was INSANE!
hahah its funny when hes like ohh i hear thunder :D, oh like yay we got rain all excited! because we never get big storms like this in Perth but when we did man it was brutal! but awesome!

'Batten down the hatches' would be possibly an English term, but no doubt would have been said in many different contexts in many different languages before hand.
But from what I know it is referring to the structure of a ship, and preparing it for a storm to hit. So battening down the hatches would mean securing all the doorways and hatches to prevent excessive water from entering the ship.
So batten down the hatches would mean just prepare for trouble.
" oh i love thunder" what in the earth you will react and make fun about the possible ciaos could happen whats so funny about it? but instead you pray that theres nothings gonna happen to your family

Great video! I was just leaving uni up in Joondalup when this started. It was spectacular to watch but my God it was scary driving in it! The hospital you mentioned was our local one. A local school had damage to 70% of the rooms. My car was written off due to hail damage. Our patio roof looked like someone took a machine gun to it! lol we actually had water coming in through the air con vents and the lights! It was pretty intense!
i am in perth it started in erth at 4 .00 pm it was a freak humagous scry storm you are glad yoour not in it like i was { in house} saw it on the bus home thow
Living in Perth myself....this is a pretty good video BUT it does NOT give justice to the fierceness of that particular storm...Nicko is right....it was an amazing storm and I don't think any footage would have done it justice..... And yes it was freakin scary....
@DayneMunt i can agree... although where i live only got the rain (thank god) but it was a wicked experience... i love storms and that was the best ive ever seen... i do feel sorry for all the families who lost cars houses and whatever else they may hav lost...
Living in Perth myself....this is a pretty good video BUT it does NOT give justice to the fierceness of that particular storm...Nicko is right....it was an amazing storm and I don't think any footage would have done it justice..... And ye it was freakin scary....
Kind of funny, i guess?? I understand not being use to it, but lord florida daily afternoon storms are worse than this, i guess I'm just use to severe summertime dailt storms. our hail gets to the size of softballs!!!
I dont think the people that weren't here in the storm understand how much lighter the camera made the clouds. I was up on the roof at the time fixing a cracked tile, before the storm hit, and i watch it, in the 10 or so minutes i was up there the storm had moved so fast, it was scary.
I then had to go to work, and within 10 minutes of the rain hitting the car park was flooded, like almost deep enough to swim. Truly was an amazing event, and sadly the most exciting thing in Perth in a long time.
‘To batten down the hatches’ means to prepare for pending trouble. It is a nautical term from the early 19th century. When a ship was about to enter rough seas, the captain would order the crew ‘to batten down the hatches’. The crew would close all the hatches (doors) on the ship’s decks and use lengths of batten (rods) to secure the hatches in the closed position.
Hope this helps and it seems to be a world wide term.
Oh the Perth people, i love them so much, anyone would think that it was hurricane katrina that had hit Perth with they way people was acting, anyway it wasnt so bad down at Rockingham, but still bad for Perth standards.
@AshChapman777 it was f all down in Rockingham that is why you say it wasn't that bad. You got no ha, not much rain ( my mum lives in Rockingham ) but I can assure you it was fucking crazy here in the city.

then hail straight away smashing everything i ran like i was running from the cops that sh1t hurts i still have bruises and today (Thursday) i am still cleaning and drying out the carpet!!!! but i must admit it was quite an amazing downpour we had!!!! my mate was at joondalup emergency when the ceiling collapsed.

Great video Nicko, I am only 180km south of you in Bunbury and we had nothing like what you had. I am not sure if you are north or south of the river but all we had was lots of lightning, thunder and about 10mm of rain...no hail or wind.. humid as hell down here too!
Weve got it worse in albany nicko the lightning is insane and yes it is true... When an aussie see rain.. Its somthing we only see once in a lifetime.. So we go insane lol
Actually, Melbourne gets it weather, anywhere from the North to the South, but yes, generally from a western orientation, generally. Just to let you know, this was a completely different storm to the Melbourne storm, well same characteristics, but different trough line, etc.
