It is hard to grasp that these particals actualy pass through metalics and other stuff...like a 'ghost' say..how does the stuff pass though something any way?? how small do you have be to ''miss'' the particals/atoms of the object you are passing through??

The more we discover, the more times we can ask the questions "why" and "how." Some people attempt to answer the subsequent by saying "God" where as others continue the search and ask "why and how" yet again. You cannot defame the pioneers of physics without simultaneously proving yourselves ignorant by taking advantage of its applied discoveries ( i.e. your computer)

Furthermore, the discovery of the fundamentals of physics hardly discredits the exsistance of a "GOD"

And no, the detector is deep underground and shielded. If it wasn't, none of the electronics would work. No compasses will be affected.

so let me try and understand something. they're gonna collide partiles to "recreate" the "bigbang". but the bigbang expanded to, well, the size of our current universe. so isnt this experiment potentially putting at risk our existense?

Nope, they're try to recreate conditions immediately after the big bang. The higher energies of the LHC will allow the recreation of earlier conditions than with previous accelerators.

Actually, the forces between the atoms are stopping the atoms in each of your hands from actually coming into contact. To actually make atoms come in contact with each other is the hard part.

the only thing i hate about particle accelerators is that the LHC construction has taken so long, they've already designed the model which will make the LHC obsolete, and they're tabletop models, able to fit on the average lab desk.

I assume you're talking about plasma wakefield acceleration? It's *at least* 5 years away from being developed into the sort of thing every university has sitting in their basement and it will come nowhere near to energies the LHC is capable of. An accelerator based on this technology that's capable of doing anything interesting would require a very large room, so forget about them fitting on a desk.
