Remember that at the atomic size it is mostly empty space, if you make an entire atomic nucleus to be the size of a grape, the first electron would be slightly more than two miles away!
It is hard to grasp that these particals actualy pass through metalics and other stuff...like a 'ghost' say..how does the stuff pass though something any way?? how small do you have be to ''miss'' the particals/atoms of the object you are passing through??
That is a bit wack! but i know it to be true for the simple reason that x-rays do it.
Mad stuff science!..but i wish they would hurry up and get some results soon..all these religious nuts need a bit of whats comming!! TRUTH!!
The more we discover, the more times we can ask the questions "why" and "how." Some people attempt to answer the subsequent by saying "God" where as others continue the search and ask "why and how" yet again. You cannot defame the pioneers of physics without simultaneously proving yourselves ignorant by taking advantage of its applied discoveries ( i.e. your computer)
Furthermore, the discovery of the fundamentals of physics hardly discredits the exsistance of a "GOD"
actually as some scientist Have discovered the intelligent design such as the so called simple single cell as it used to be called, after seeing it takes over a trillion organized well orchestrated functions to happen, they actually became creationist, slapping a few molicules together doesnt prove a big explosion created life & Organization, lol,
a: you can't spell "molecules". b: you dont slap molecules together at the LHC. c: those two gross inadequacies of your knowledge make your critiques of science totally invalid. have a good day, and please. go read a book :) not something by lee strobel either :)
this is the most stupid humans have ever come- instead of wasting our money on this- make food or help other poor people in needs- our human brain cannot over power the intellegence of the real Creator-
why what is the point of this why are we hell bent on nit picking every littel thing and how do thay now that the scanner thay have made are able to pick up the right info and the size of that magnet thats going to throw a lot of compases of corese
If we didn't, we'd still be eating dirt and worshipping the Sun.
Previous theories and experiments have shown how to detect the particles. Theory attempts to explain reality, experiment backs up or disproves theory. It's called science.
And no, the detector is deep underground and shielded. If it wasn't, none of the electronics would work. No compasses will be affected.
so let me try and understand something. they're gonna collide partiles to "recreate" the "bigbang". but the bigbang expanded to, well, the size of our current universe. so isnt this experiment potentially putting at risk our existense?
Nope, they're try to recreate conditions immediately after the big bang. The higher energies of the LHC will allow the recreation of earlier conditions than with previous accelerators.
They're not creating a new "big bang", just studying high energy particles that were present in the beginning, but decayed . You just can't create a universe! it's against elementary physics laws
They're not creating a New Big bang! it's against the conservation of energy, it's simply transforming part of the energy of the incident hadrons to create high energy particles that were very important at the big bang. It's not about creating a new universe!
lol what makes u ppl think that they will show the results and not keep them secret..be serious..ofc they will keep them secret.. CUZ WE PPL ARE TO LOW LIFE'S FOR THIS DUH NERDS
It looks like it could explode. Depending on what kind of partials they shoot down it. Are they going to share the data or keep it all secret? I mean from us commoners... lol
Actually, no. When you clap your hands together, you're not causing any atomic collisions at all. You're just bouncing electric charges against each other.
But the worries about the LHC destroying the earth are quite idiotic.
Actually, the forces between the atoms are stopping the atoms in each of your hands from actually coming into contact. To actually make atoms come in contact with each other is the hard part.
how stupid if the earth is destroyed for the sake of a physics experiment, we will all die with our mistakes unrectified, however this migth pertain to a incident, 5 russian women took cover in a cave for doomsday that they predict will be on may 2008, i hope the experiment would not be somewhere on may, well lets we wont feel a thing anyway
I've got news for u we all die one day and we don't need to stop the scientic research because we are affraid of dying. This experiment actually will prove the mystics been always right.
For you to say that is quite selfish. Your fear of dying might be immune but something like this could put the whole world in risk. Think about the children and all the beautiful life that was produced on this Earth. If we make an excuse like "we all die one day" Okay so thats like saying "Who cares blow up the world, I'm gonna die anyway"
I'd hate to die because of someone elses fault or some ridiculous experiment that doesn't benefit for our future IF we have one after it.
have you seen the cern thing bout the enviroment? its quite great if you have doubts about how atlas could bring the world to an end write them they answer right back :) i did it and now im not that worried i was also afraid of diying because of it but its quite safe (sorry if i miss spelled something im from mexico)
i just cant belive that with such a quality video only got so few visits, i hope that it aint that people lost it taste for cience and humankind progress, any way this is some huge experiment that only is going to leave us with more questions than anwers but thats what it is all about right? :), cant wait for the results
the only thing i hate about particle accelerators is that the LHC construction has taken so long, they've already designed the model which will make the LHC obsolete, and they're tabletop models, able to fit on the average lab desk.
I assume you're talking about plasma wakefield acceleration? It's *at least* 5 years away from being developed into the sort of thing every university has sitting in their basement and it will come nowhere near to energies the LHC is capable of. An accelerator based on this technology that's capable of doing anything interesting would require a very large room, so forget about them fitting on a desk.
Awesome editing and choice of music.

Collision energies and bombs:
Several eV - chemical bomb;
Several MeV - nuclear bomb;
Several TeV - hyper bomb. (Example: SN 1987A)
Chemical bomb - change in chemical structure of matter.
Nuclear bomb - change in nuclear structure of matter.
Hyper bomb - transformation of matter into field mc^2 --- > LI^2.
Magnetic trap is 10^36 times stronger than black hole.
LHC propagandists must be arrested. Otherwise they will explode the Earth.
Stop Tevatron and LHC.
