  • The Queens Nose is another good one

  • 2 paedos on a train

  • Haven't seen this for some years. My children, now in their 40's were glued to the television each week to watch 'The Box' . Sad how |BBC has declined so much.

  • quite simply the finest Christmas series (and BBC Children's) series ever! Watch it every Christmas; about to start watching with my eldest daughter: she's 5 so judicious editing required for "scary bits"

  • No! Don't trust those men! They're creepy! D:

  • I do wish that bbc would go back to doing more adaptations of classic books.

  • Very Harry Potter..... Loved this backin the day, opening credits stil freak me out.

  • My most favorite Christmas movie of all time!

  • OMG! Slyvia Pouncer is Magenta from Rocky Horror Picture Show!!! And the old man Ramon Lully is Doctor Who! I'm sure I recognize Abner Brown from something too.

  • Utterly magical. I agree with you Petesstuff. The BBC Christmas serial was an institution. I'm in my mid-30s and the festive season just isn't the same without them.

  • The book was clearly an influence for Susan Cooper in her 'Dark is Rising' series; it is, alas, too late to wish that the people who adapted that book to the screen could have seen this series and been equally inspired.

  • Good memories....

But I'm SO glad we got over that awful 1980's obsession with synthesizers!

REAL instruments are so much better.

  • Amazing high quality. So well written, acted and filmed. Great costumes and period evocation. Since I write for all ages, I find this fascinating and very cool! Youtube is wonderful. So little on TV these days. One really has to search for anything of quality. Neat to see the panorama of what has been produced through the decades.

  • the two men on the train were an early version of suits you sir from the fast show.

  • Wonderfull the BBc should show this magic every christmas!

  • I wonder what has happened to Flora Page, who played the pretty Susan in this series the girl with ginger which was short. I would suspect Flora Page is more than likely well and truly out of the acting profession by now, and is most likely working in a bank, a building society, a library, running a pub, running a restaurant, working in an offfice, working in a shop or even running her own business who knows? It is often the case many child actors and actresses leave the profession after a time

  • @AndreHiltre let's hope your kids don't inherit your pig ignorance

  • @runforthehills707 Ahhh! So you like children to become sexualised do you? You sicko pervert.

  • @runforthehills707 I think that statement says more about you than it does me. We're living in a world where adults buy their kids pole dancing kits and T shirts with inappropriate slogans. So you can leave 'homosexuals and wogs' out of it as I think you are sexualising kids pretty well without anyone else's help. I don't think your comments are appropriate for this site or show any kind of maturity for someone who is supposed to be a parent

  • I have always loved this piece of music by Hely Hutchinson it reminds me of my childhood, sitting by the fire listening to children's hour lost in another world...I'm so glad the same music has been used here.

  • A new version of Box of Delights is in post-production apparently.

    I fear the worst though.

  • Wow, that opening was more frightening than the twilight zone. Which still gives me chills to this day!

  • Thank-you we've never seen this!

  • cool thank-you . its so cool to see cool shows from britain .

  • OMG!!!

  • as a children's drama this has never been surpassed....so sad nothing like this is made today

  • Thanks for uploading this! Brings back some amazing memories... what a cool atmosphere this whole series encapsulates..

  • Man i love this , thank you lcult!

  • @Futre4 I know but the end credits with close up of the Wolf showing its eyes scared me when watching this for the first time

  • Magical actor, Patrick Troughton. He excelled in mysterious and sinister roles. I would have loved to have seen him as the irascible Davies in a production of Pinter's The Caretaker.

  • fantastic loved this a kid!

  • sweet memories... :)

  • I think you mean Book Tower with Tom Baker?

  • Bring back Chocky!

  • always feels comforting to watch this, i loved this as a kid x

  • the watch tower remember that?

  • @kissingcandy1 Dont remember the watchtower ?.... remember one program where some kids were trapped in some sort of labryinth ?... in the very last episode they did find their way out but cant for the life of me remember what it was called ???? anyone ?

  • @petesstuff Sounds like HTV's "Into the Labyrinth" which has just been released on dvd. Enjoy the memories!

  • @sonofherne thats the one!, Thanks for that , there is a a few vids on here ! ,theme tune just brought it all back!

  • @kissingcandy1 I remember that, the girl who went to stay by the sea & discovered ghosts. I've got the first episode on tape still somewhere but I can't remember how it ended.

  • Whatever happened to the BBC ?.... in the mid 80's as kids we had Box of Delights, Children of Green Knowe, The Tripods etc..... what have the kids got now ?

  • @petesstuff Apparently they watch Rasta Mouse. I feel so very sorry for them.

  • @petesstuff

Or even the adults. No more I Claudius or The Singing Detective. Mostly drivel.

  • @petesstuff eastenders lol

  • @petesstuff

computer games, the internet and hundreds of channels..In 1984 we simply didnt have much else to keep us entertained

I instantly fell in love with Harry potter when I 1st saw it because it instantly reminded me of the look and feel of TV like Box of Delights and Children of Greene Knowe that I loved as a kid

  • @petesstuff Doctor Who of course!

  • @petesstuff True that

  • @petesstuff "whatever happened to the BBC?" It's still making quality television for youngsters ('Sarah Jane Adventures', 'Tracey Beaker', 'Horrible Histories' etc) and it's the only broadcaster that's doing so in the UK. Perhaps you should be asking why ITV(who gave us some wonderful childrens drama in the past like 'Chocky', 'Tomorrow People', 'Children Of The Stones' and 'Feathered Serpent') no longer make any children's programming AT ALL.

  • Love it!

  • brought back amazing memories. Must get the DVD for my son to watch at xmas.

  • brought me back to when i was 10 i loved this at christmas thanks for posting

  • Comment removed

  • I think this christmas I going to have to watch this series again xx

  • This was such a magical drama christmas 1984, but the end credits was so scary with that wolf looking you xxx

  • Love the special effects at 2:26 - consist of a tingling noise to make a ticket appear. Box of Delights brings back my boyhood.

  • 4 weddings and a funeral, garbage! not the version i saw. I haven't seen any of the potter movies.

  • Christmas wasn't the same without this show each year.

  • Thank you so much for putting this here. It brings back such good memories. This mesmorised me back then, I couldn't miss a single episode. I have the DVD set of it now, and my children love it just as much : ) It's good to read that it was so well loved.

    Thank you!

  • Memories, such good memories watching this on tv between 5pm to 5:30pm in around November 1984.

Very pleased to see there are people out around who still enjoy the old classics of children programmes

  • i will never forget this program.

  • Loved this when i was a kid, never missed an episode. Brings back memories. Thanks

  • three programmes forever locked in my psyche - this - the witches of the grynnigo and Chocky !"!
