  • The bass line of metal gear OST is clearly inspired by Carpenter movies' ones.

Thanks to make me realize it !!

  • This is awesome! BTW, why isn't there an Escape from New York video game?! It's one of those movies that's just perfect for a game.

  • @JapaneseJoe101

    Thank you very much.

There were talks about a planned video game on Snake Plissken (around 2003), involving Kurt Russell, Carpenter and Debra Hill (with Namco in charge) . Due to Hill's death the project was cancelled. She was co-producer of EFNY, the computer voice in said film, and co-writer/co-producer of EFLA.

  • Kick ass \m/

  • Man, this is a great video. I'm liking your work!

  • FINΞ VVϘRK !°!

  • For a moment when I was watching this, i thought John Carpenter had done a Quentin Tarantino and starred in the movie! I mistook Lee Van Cleef for him. Well, they kinda look alike (don't they?...).

  • @naedanger123 Indeed - Lee Van Cleef was the model for Revolver Ocelot :)

  • @SPeacock I didn't know that! Wow...

  • kurt russel is the original solid snake!

  • Exellent video. I Love it....

  • escape from new york trailer

  • your god

  • thats it im buying escape from ny and la now

  • Good idea, but the last two music is not so atmospherical. :S And at the beginning the "Discovery" track from MGS ost would be better. (it's just an opinion)

  • Awesome!! Well done!

  • Thank you!

  • Last thing to say, even if you disagree , there is no need to be disrespectful and rude.

  • 2.Kojima acknowledging the importance of EFNY on MGS, sought the "blessing" of Carpenter by sending him a letter.

    3.Furthermore, Just a few examples -

In MGS(first game) there is a time limit of 24 hours, the same as EFNY. Solid is injected with FOXDIE, Plissken is injected with a virus. Plissken captured and "tortured" by the Duke, in the MGS the torture motif is known to all.

4.The James Bond influece only existed in MGS3 as a mood and style definer, nothing more .

  • @Metashock

Yes, MGS series indeed has a lot of influences. However I strongly disagree with your view. 1.The MAIN characters of the game both Solid Snake and Naked Snake AKA Big Boss are practically based on Plissken, and as main characters they are an integral part of the Storyline which defines the symbolism of the games : an ex-soldier who is used as a pawn by the government and the "system", and tries to fight his way against them while staying true to his own beliefs and ideals.

  • ....MSG is based on Escape from New York? I missed that memo, though it feels...SO right.

  • Y'know I like anime & Escape from New York.

    Part of me is thinking...

"I could mess this up REALLY bad, if I do it wrong!"

Of course the fandom is telling me...

"It can be done but it needs to be done in the right way!"

Because, using the same atmosphere, character silhouttes & general salvage vs. high-tech is a no-brainer. It all comes down, IT CAN BE DONE but HOW???

  • Somehow the the metal gear solid themes are perfectly fits this movie!

  • @LukeBorolsBack the reason you thought escape from new York was escape from LA is because escape from LA was the sequel

  • nice work.

  • I've just had a smoke, and this was excellent. Thanks for uploading:)

  • And this movie is a film adaptation of a board game I knew about a few years before the movie came out.

  • Really good job. Just really good job on this. Hit the mark perfect.

  • Really weird! i seen this film as a kid.. some reason thought it was escape from LA, i think it's two different ending..:S but yeah i always though wow! ? this story seems to link with metal gear solid.. snake.. and recueing the president and so on.. just really weird! didnt know it was acutally based on the film:)

  • i think what snake of EON and snake of MG they are seem person

  • excellent dude, into it from the start,,,, music is fantastic,, good job :-)))

  • big Boss real

  • 1:36 that injection could be fox die's inspiration

  • In this movie Kurt Russel was really sexy !

2 beautiful men, great actors (Lee Van Cleef and Kurt Russel ) and a good story !

Thank you for your creation and the good choice of your music !

    Beautiful !

Thank you very much for posting

  • Great video bro MGS LIVES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lets face it, Solid Snake is just a wimpy version of Snake Plisskin.

  • Just gotta let you know that this is an awesome compilation. Great music pics, too!

  • 5 STARS!

  • #1 GAME OF ALL TIMES

  • Metal Gear Solid Snake: I'm Snake. Snake Plissken: No I'm Snake. lol

  • @codehackerzane That would actually be amusing to see/hear :)

  • Big Boss ~!!!! Kya~!!!

  • Plissken is so hot

  • when i was really young i thought that snake from escape from new york was solid snake. because then both had an eyepatch (though not on the same eye) and a 5 o'clock shadow and sorta long hair. so basically i they look similar and have the same fucking name so yeah....but later, i realized that snake changed his name to hoss delgado and became a character and billy & mandy....and solid snake got old, grew a mustache, and shot himself....that's just prime....

  • @NICKREAPER316

Sorry to correct you but, Solid Snake didn't shoot himself. Complete MGS 4 and you will get a great surprise.

  • 1, dont do the whole "@username" thing it's just pointless, and 2, i never played any of them, but i wanna get the first mgs

  • Never liked the movie. You made it brilliant.

  • fucking president

  • "Warhead Storage" track fits perfectly. . .same exact kind of synth music.

Everytime I play MGS4 I always use the MAC-10 with a supressor 'cause Plissken and the Duke used it in the movie. . .lol

  • Everything fit so perfectly.

  • Thanks ^_^

  • in mgs2 snake's name is iroquis plisken

  • The first time I saw this movie I thought in Metal Gear Solid xD

    Good game and good movie!

    :)

  • this is one of the best videos on youtube.

  • Thank you! ^_^

  • Snake, what happened? Snake! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!

  • BIG BOSS XD

  • its funny because the first metal gear cover art for solid snake was based on MICHAEL BIEHN. I wonder if snake has some KYLE REESE IN HIS BLOOD BESIDES KURT RUSSEL

  • *Does too

  • If you're a fan of both franchises you'll notice maany references in MGS from character concept and traits to actual plot structures, the basic arc and key points of all the games, and many other subtle things

Oh and to that guy, in MGS2 - the psuedonym Iriquois Pliskin that Solid used, It was Iroquois that means snake in algonquin..funny too since they crash into manhattan, the native region for algonquins haha, but perhaps the altered name pliskin

  • Cool...

  • best movie ever

  • SNAKE IS BAD ASS!!!

  • this is great, it fits so well...wonder why :P

  • Great MSG and Escape from new york

  • cool vid music suits it

  • Brilliant job, really! I applaud your efforts...you picked the right tracks and synched it good. Thanks for an entertaining video.

  • Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

  • that was great ,had no idea MGS was based on this great movie.

  • Kojima annoynced in a interview that he was obssesd with the way Plissken broke the normal rules of being a hero and based his Solid Snake character on him. In fact if you ever played MGS2 snake uses the Alias Plissken to hide his identity...

  • pretty good info, interesting, love this movie btw.

  • yeah i never saw Escape From New York until i read that interview then made a effort of watching this movie XD

    I now love this movie...

  • is dated of course but is highly entertaining, this is one of Russell's best performance.

  • its took - jus the concept for the main character

  • the music is very fitting I think

  • Haha... ocelot 9:11

  • Oh yeah! This is my fav movie!!!!

  • i am sure if youtube would let us upload bigger videos this could of better but it is good tho

  • man thats nice work dude

  • Hideo Kojima is a movie buff, if you pay attention to the MGS series alot of characters and missions are from related movies, the whole MGS series was made to be like the 80s james bond movies, so MGS is just like all the badass movies put into one great video game series. thats it. metal gear is my favorite series of games btw.

  • A lot of the names in MGS are names from 2001-A space odyssey , which Kojima has said is one of his favourites.

In the bad ending of MGS, Snake and Hal end up on the skidoo and Snake reveals his name is David. Hal says:"Dave and Hal", and Snake replies:"Hey, maybe we should take a trip to Jupiter one day." In 2001 the movie, the commander is called David Bowman, but is called Dave and the computer Hal9000 is called Hal. Also in MGS2 the oiltanker is called Discovery=(the spaceship in 2001)

  • Well, Revolver Ocelot is more a tribute to the 60's western movies with Clint Eastwood. Also Ocelot is very fond of classic westerns, and uses a Colt SIngle Action Army, a typical western gun.

Anyway, Metal Gear Solid 1 and Escape from New York has a very similar plot. Ex-warhero sent on a mission he has been forced to accept. Infiltrate an hostile area, to rescue a president he doesn't care about, and then there's the time limit too in both...

what 80's James Bond movies exactly??

  • Metal Gear references Bond films in general, like how Snake deals over the top villians with secret bases and hoards of disposable henchmen, nuclear waepons, femme fatales, and uses cool gadgets it also has touches from 80's action films like Rambo.

  • i've had a taste of a few of the Metal Gear Solid games. But they still differ from Syphon FIlter, to me.

I guess it's mainly cuz Gabe and Snake sound alike. i cannot be convinced that SF is a ripoff of MGS. their release dates are only a few months apart.

  • except one thing, metal gear is awesome and james bond is extremely tiresome

  • yes, but Bond's gadgets always were over the top and ahead of time, whereas Snake mostly uses real weapons

Bond always has wise cracking remarks and always looks great in the end, like it's another day's work for him, not to mention he always showed great interest in all women, whereas Snake is a loner that has no friends save for colonel Campbell. Rambo never used stealth sneaking but stood in the open moving down thousands of enemies. Rambo cared for politics, Snake hates it.

  • what else feels like mgs i say

    under seige

    die hard

    sudden death

this movie and ghost in the shell

  • check out what movies Hideo Kojima has as his favorites

he made several references to those in the MGS games

none of his favorites include Under Siege (Steven Seagal is a douchebag anyway) or Sudden Death

  • yea but im just saying theyre more die hard clones than hideos favs they feel like metal gear i dont care if hideo likes them or not that his problem

  • yea and the terminator

  • except that there is no machine sent from the future that hunts snake throughout the game, then yes they are similar... lol

  • just look at the front cover of the old metal gear game he looks like reese from terminator and theres stealth plus a few other things as to why i think its almost like metal gear

  • baddass 5 stars!

  • The president lookalike the Armstech president, Kenneth Baker from MGS1 :D

  • lol? never knew about this

  • it was good except the writing was spaced too far a part until the end

  • I remember finishing Metal Gear Solid and then watching this movie a while later, awesome stuff!

  • BADASS

  • Warhead Storage always sounded like a John Carpenter song to me.

  • he only dose that deep voice like snake once in a while in that movie

  • Metal Gear and Escape From NY in one giant collab? I smell badassery! Great job. 5/5

  • that will be kojima and escape from new york. mgs and escape from ny are two worlds very different, and the only thing which is extremely similar between them is snake (solid is based in plissken)

  • Sooo..what does that have to do with me saying the video is badass? :|

  • Sort of - I saw many things about the movie that could have inspired the premise of Metal Gear... Snake's battle-hardened, distrustful personality in MGS, the premise of a single, extremely skilled warrior going into an armed fortress alone, having to find supplies and help on the way, the idea of it being better to sneak past the guards instead of engaging them all head-on, Snake being lied to by his superiors - even FOXDIE. They are very different; but one def. gave birth to the other. ^_^

  • lol big boss

  • nicely done matey =]

  • top!!!!!!

  • Good stuff. Great use of soundtrack.

  • Hideo Kojima has listed this as a favorite movie of his. The name "Snake" became the reason for Solid Snake's name, and the name "Plissken" was used in MGS2.

  • excellent

  • This is awesome keep up the good work.

  • very nicely put together.well done.

  • Good job man ~~ keep up

  • ace!!!

  • Great! My 2 favorite series mixed together. Snakes for ever!

  • i thought you couldnt put movie maker videos on youtube....

  • Well I converted the video from wmv to avi before uploading it to youtube . However, as far as I know , you can upload wmv videos to youtube :-)

  • yh u can

  • 1.35 Oh noes! FOXDIE!

  • That's what I said, too - even though the Plutoxin-7 virus from "Escape From L.A." sounded a lot more like FOXDIE in that it was a virus, not a bomb!

  • lol 3:16 "chock full of nuts"

  • The new movie will not have the same feel.... not the same music

  • 8:54 PWNED!

  • wow i remember this movie i used to love it, i rmemeber iot by the basket ball and decapitating and stuff

  • Apologies for overusing the f word here, but... fuckin brilliant film, fuckin brilliant game & music, and of course: fuckin brilliant vid.

  • Thanks!

I appreciate your comment, including the F word ;-)

  • Well done.

  • i think the old guy who was breifing snake at the start is a double for ocelot/liquid in cod4 too

  • Yep, see my comment below

  • oh right i didnt know you meant him and i didnt mean old snake i ment liquid

  • actually ignore that i was lookin at kuwangas comment

  • Coincedentally, Old Snake is based off of Lee Van Cleef, Plisskin's superior in Escape from New York

  • Yes, both characters Old Snake and Ocelot are based off of Lee Van Cleef .

  • if they made a movie for mgs they should use sam elliot for ocelot

  • He's a great choice for the role of Ocelot. He really bears a physical resemblance to him :-)

  • Has Kojima ever said that he loves The Escape from movies because there are too many things in this movie he got ideas for the games.

  • Hideo Kojima is a big fan of Escape From New York and has never hidden the fact that the film influenced his MGS games. He even sent a letter to John Carpenter when Metal Gear Solid was first released... and Carpenter absolutely loved the game :-)

  • THey desperately need to make a metal gear solid movie. Too bad David Hayter dosent look like snake. That would be perfect.

  • Yes, you're right. David Hayter IS Solid Snake in terms of voice.

I've always thought Sean Bean would be excellent as Snake. The only problem is that he's English, though I'm sure he could change his accent for the role.

  • EXCELLENT OUTSTANDING truly a "mind blower" You did such a great job putting this together, thx! :-) Valerie
