  • Wow, these videos have come a long way in just 2 years. Thanks for the extra effort in production quality, Dave. It really makes a difference

  • @thetreyloo - thx, the vids have been going since '05 though. Look for "Premium" vids on the new ROTW site coming soon.

  • 2:51 CAN'T READ MY, CAN'T READ MY

  • I've watched you live with steve twice, you are an amazing musician and your house is the garden of eden. Thanks for sharing!!

  • Dance Gavin Dance riff FTW

  • what's the name of that song and is it available for download? it sounds very nice.

  • Robot music actually sounded pretty cool ;)

  • Thanks Dave, for another inspiring, informative lesson! Much appreciated.!

  • LOL DUUDE I feel so stupid. I've been watching your videos for a long time, but I guess i never looked at your username? I just realized after reading a comment that you're Dave Weiner that i've been watching in G3 Denver and all the other videos with Vai. LOL good videos, bro.

  • Oh yeah "Dave's Party".

  • how did u get the backtracking? how do u make it?

  • Is the intro tune an original?

  • yeah check G3 Dave is in the videos guys,i just wished he had more solo spots,

  • I'm almost ashamed to say how long I've been trying to learn this instrument, but this was one of the few videos I've found out there that has actually helped. This was a great video man. I've got to check out your other vids to see what you do with other scales.

  • Thanks Dave WOW! The guitarist that plays with Steve Vai is coaching me . Great content and you have my respect as much as Steve Vai and Satriani

    Thanks again! Dave for President!

  • Great musician, i hope that very soon visit Colombia...is a beatiful and nice country.

  • hey dave you have any holiday songs you can teach us?

  • So now your playing with vai?, lucky you! and lucky him ;)

  • I've been playing in Vai's band since 1999. Amazing that people don't know that.

  • Haha, when I said now, I meant currently. Btw I'm new to hearing you, amazing playing!! . Btw, Y discovered you because of a Vai vid, haha

  • well no, not right now. 2010 again, but not right now.

  • @DAVEWEINER That is not amazing....that is sad. That such a great guitar player is neglected. In every other band this wouldn't happen. But with Vai...he absorbs just all attention. That is because of what I don't like Vai because he is the ONLY star. All his musicians are not that important.

  • @DAVEWEINER Dude! That means I've been listening to you before I even knew you were you!

  • but i liked robot music lol, at least how it was weird. i have to say your playing at the end of the video was superb, and some of my favorite playing of yours.

  • i loved this one, awesome lick!! whats more for me this is your best sounding guitar

  • Dave, you're the man.

  • Well Dave it the riff makes sense when played over the backing track where we can here the progression!!!

  • I never like how you play. You rock in this video, AMAZING

  • Awesome as usual Dave. May your generous tip | technique | advice sharing be reciprocated a thousand times by a grateful and appreciative universe. _thumpsup_

  • that was great Dave...the improv with usage sounded very nice

  • Dave....You never cease to amaze me...always keeping it fresh...Thank You Dave...Hope you have a great holiday...cant wait till next lesson...

  • that phrasing was crucial...........did Dave just stay in the same key/scale with different phrasing, if so, what scale was it?

    Thanks!

  • @hmtaylor7

i think he said A minor

  • the improvisation was... i have no words for it

  • beautiful phrasing on the end jam there dave!

  • This was awesome! Reminds me of a solo Jorn Viggo Lofstad doeso n God's Equation, its really ,REALLY good

  • very nice here...I like this because it'll help me advance from scales to musical composition. Thx Dave.

  • awesome riff this week! You are a wonderful player - i bow, sir :-)

by the way... it sounds like it was made to be played on tele :-) tele's are superb - i own own and i love it

  • Dave you are bad a$!. Watching you improv @ the end was such sweetness. Thanks for posting! Btw, watched you with Vai on HDNet other night, pretty friggin cool man, pretty friggin cool!

Best wishes to you and yours this holiday season!

  • hey dave your tele is BEAUTIFUL!! nice vid, thanx!

  • Awsome! Just a question though, when would you be confined to a 4 fret position?

  • you never are, but a mature player knows to use confines to his advantage.

  • Oh cool, thanks

  • merry christmas and some happy new gear!

  • Wow .. the riff in context with the backing track made all the difference in the world. Without it, the riff seemed sporatic and dissonant. I guess I need a bit more training of the ears...

Excellent riff this week Dave. I'll enjoy trying this one out.

    Cheers.

  • high actions are great but a standard 10 gauge action is perfect

  • I love robot music!!!

  • Hey Dave...What is your action height sounds lower than 1/16.BTW I caught you on a cable network playing guitar with Via..Think it was from 2007..Awesome stuff man.

  • The action is actually not that low on this guitar. I'd like it to be lower but it sounds and plays fine as is.

Yes, the new Vai (not Via - funny how many poeple spell it like that, or even think that's correct) dvd has been playing on Palladia lately.

  • Vai yea thats what i meant..didnt check my spelling sorry bout that.Yea thats where i saw it on palladia.Anyway this lesson is def one of my favs Dave.

  • awesome it sounds very Vai like

  • just saying but... the opening and closing music sounds SO much like Mass Effect soundtrack (xbox 360 game) which is not a bad thing

  • Great Lesson Dave! You never cease to amaze me man! Thanks for your generosity!

  • Dave, hands down, you have the best lessons on youtube. Thanks so much for making these videos.

  • Cool. Sounds vector-ish.

  • dave,

just wondering if you have any of your fingernails grown out on your right hand for your hybrid picking?

  • exactly what i was looking for at this point in my guitar journey. Ive learned all the scales and modes on the whole neck, how the connect, etc. But they always seem to sound like scales...thanks dave

  • I love this video! awesome riff and that improv on the end... i bow, sir :-)

by the way... this riff fits the blondie sooo good... it's like it was made for the tele sound :-)

  • sounds cool D

  • You could make a lesson on just the 4:11 - 4:13 part and the last three bars or the improv!! as always, very well done, thank you, Dave!!

  • that is sucha sick tele i really want that one

  • Hi dave. I know you're not really a jazz guy but it would be interesting to see a lesson where you explain your approach to playing through changes. Maybe in the future?

    Cheers

  • i love that aeolian backingtrack :)

  • me too, i think it's the best one from your site :-)

  • Daveрyou are becoming one of my favorite guitarists.

  • That's a great compliment. I'm honored.

  • the robot music made me laugh =))

  • when you played with the backing track it became so beautiful. Great lesson Dave, thanks again

  • ohh and PS.: isn't that type of riff used a lot in jazz???

    thanks once again..

  • Why do you change guitars so much?? could you do a video about the different guitars?? how to choose them etc etc...

    awesome vid..

    Cheers from Portugal..

  • I have a Tele, Strat and LP. I rotate between the 3 frequently, mostly the Strat and Tele. I do have Ibanez 7s but I don't play them too much these days. I'm enjoying the uber-tone of these 6s.

  • Your robot music sounds funny. Sounds kinda like R2D2. :)

  • I like the "robot music!"

  • Really good lesson.. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Good lesson Dave, fantastic phrasing on that improv!

  • got to love teles my all time fave guitars

  • Also some of my students , with a riff like this will sound stiff and maybe mention hitting the strings with more force, another problem they are having, great lesson as always!!!!!

  • That's a great little riff! Sounds awesome over that backing track. Gonna have some fun with it myself.

  • Thanks dave for making this video! I really learned a lot!

  • One more thing, your arm reminds me of Joe Satriani hehe

  • Another awesome lesson :D

  • Hey Dave I tried out that same Tele at Guitar Center a week ago and I already have it on hold...man you were right these things play great! Thanks for the videos!
