Sounds good, I can tell it has had good care. It looks just like the one I inherited from my dad but, it's a 7.5. Mine has the same red, black, and chrome colored bezel, I think it's the sharpest looking of any Mercury.
@browntp2 Naturaly always check for carbonated spark plugs that won't fire correctly, If they are coated with soft black carbon then it begs the question as to why it's running that rich. It could simply be a case that way to much oil mixes were being used and foweled them or a overfueling problem as I already mentioned. After ruling out bad/fouled plugs to be sure then it could very well be the ignition system itself like dirty points. Luckly parts are still plentiful for those beauties.
@hoffman4506 Well, considering the cost of new at maybe $1100.00 roughly, I'd say it's worth something in excellent running condition, and not all used up. I'm guessing again but, a nice one should be worth at least $400.00. This excludes those that are all beat up in physical appearence by being tossed in th back of pickup truck beds and ones that are mechanicaly worn out.

i have this exact engine-1970/1971?
just been serviced and new diaphram, impeller, spark plugs, fuel line etc.
runs perfectly.
whats one of these worth 40 years later?!!
