Bad choice of guitar equipments and sound for this band, this is not a African or a 80's blues band for god sake! I hate those Roland amps when it's used for rock.
Kaleidoscope, this is NOT their first trip to Asia, the continent--Asia performed at Budokan in Tokyo in 1983, but Greg Lake had replaced John Wetton at the time--this was MTV's first live concert from Asia, if I remember the advertising right. If you mean this is the group's first visit to Asia with the original line-up, you're right.
I saw them last night with Yes. John's voice sounds much better than this. This must have been a bad night. Asia was great last night, but Yes was still my preference. Geoff's keytar finale and Carl's drum solo were awesome, though.
I think his voice has aged fairly well. I hope is hasn't gotten any worse since then because I am going to see them with Yes in a few weeks. Why did my mom have to wait until '91 to have me?
This was ABSLOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! OMG!! It could not get any worse!!!!! I am so embarrassed!!!! Give it up..... You sound like a bunch of grandpas rather than the cool dudes I once knew!!!
If you are going on prog drummers then you have to consider Alan White as well. Not as flashy as Peart but solid while busy in most Yes songs. And Steve Howe, was, is and always will be the man! If he was born 150 years ago, I bet we would consider him one of the great guitar concerto writers of all time, like Giuliani and Mertz.
Peart / Palmer is a toss-up. I'm a professional Musician, and the stuff that ELP did was off the charts. I'm a big Rush fan, but they never did anything as complicated as Tarkus.
there's a BIG difference between being "complicated" and "musical". Everything Peart's done has been BOTH, and while I like Carl Palmer, he just doesn't match up. As far as Palmer's playing is concerned, deliberately rudimentary, which is a good thing, but still lacks the "MUSIC" theory that Peart has (Make Up Something Interesting and Complimentary).
Jenn? You belong in that back alley. Carl Palmer is a classic prog drummer. Can he touch Peart? My opinion is no. But back in the day, a serious Rush fan- bud thot John Bohnam was the best rock drummer of all time. 25 years later, still cant sort that. Steve Smith was a great rock drummer with a serious jazz influence. Nothin wrong with that :)
Steve Smith probably had to drink himself to sleep when he toured with Journey; he did his best to liven up things within the constraints. He sounds like he's having some fun on "Chain Reaction"; worth a download.
Steve Howe wins my vote for Prog Rocker most likely to fall into a pile of crumbling ash and dust in mid-gig. Like that German soldier at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
it's so sad when a once good band goes from crazy good to all old, bad performance, and some other dudes that might be the same dudes from the 80's but you really can't tell because there older and don't look gay with their makeup.......anyways, i guess they sound good for being out for over 20 years, so thats some credit
Not really the best performance - John Wetton has lost some elasticity in his voice and playing had become a little pedestrian. But at least Geoff Downes had cut down on the keyboard clutter (thank god for midi and usb/firewire).
Bien, hemos tenido la suerte de tener a ASIA en Tenerife (Islas Canarias) el pasado 25 de Mayo, Steve Howe sigue siendo un maestro y Carl Palmer con su operación de corazón, un buen percusionista :)
these guys where before my time, but I am truly happy they came into being with Steve Howe instead of Trevor Rabbin, Long live Asia, and The most awesome bands that made it up!

Asia should've called their debut album "Dumbing Down". Look at them up there acting like moorons. This song is okay, but they act like they're lowest common denominator Bon Jovi.
I just made my order to amazon last night 4 this concert!! can't wait next week 4 receiving it! I have the cd and it's Great!!! HOWE MAESTRO as sophiegromit pointed and I might add HE STILL KICKS ASSES!!! GEOFF sounds wizard! CARL is a powerfull and skilled drumer..one of the best!! (Allan, Bill and Neil are in this club too!) and John haven't lost his unike and superb voice and bass playing!!..Hope these guys write together an new studio album
I'm glad that John is taking care of himself now. It wasn't too long ago that he was overweight and showing up sloppy drunk to his concerts. Not the case these days!
Arena and Aura were not Asia albums. This is the real deal. They are amazing! It's a blessing having them back! Wetton, Howe, Palmer, and Downes! Accept no substitutes!
I absolutely love Downes' work on Yes' "Drama" and on the first Asia albums (plus "Arena" in 1996 and "Aura" in 2001), but that "keytar" part is quite cheesy... :-/
Lol I never realized that the pianist plays like four different keyboards!

You're right. Palmer's on an upper, outer galaxy altogether. Peart's still got time to make it to Palmer's system....eventually. ;-p
