KK: I'm still trying to figure out if I really have synestesia or not.... it doesn't always show up. When I hear most music types and instuments, and some words and numbers, I can also see colors. Sometimes I can kind of feel sound too, like a song might be 'soaring' to me. Anyone care to clear this up?
Haha, I'm a spatial sequence synaesthete and this really gave me a good laugh :) I can see and feel music, but only shapes and textures, no colors for me :c
Inhave it too. Mine happens with food, numbers, letters, music, people, sound, smells. Yeah its hard to ask other people what color they see th number 2 or the letter A cause then they just look at you weird but hey i see it as a gift.
I have Synesthesia, the color type, and i just found so many documentaries and experiments about it, it really made me realize that some people are really passionate about studying it...it makes me feel special(:
me too. i also have synesthesia, like twenty kinds, really strong, usually stronger than the people in the documentaries, so it makes me feel bad that people think it's bizarre. i'm thinking, oh god, wait until they meet me! but it does make me feel special, and though it sounds kinda silly, it hurts somewhat when people call it 'weird' or 'bizarre'.
I know what you mean. It sounds weird when people just get 1 color from 1 note. Mine's like this:
I get some colors from a personality, musical note, instriment, and the feeling of a song. If I see a muscian I know or relate to, these all meet to form a shape that enters into my normal vision. Otherwise it's just distortion of my vision.
I also hear anger. It's high pitched and dislikeable, I am therefore rarly angry.
Also: The background song has too much orange, it distracts from the mood.
No matter if I've heard the song or not, I see color when I first hear it. Music is so powerful for me that is changes my emotions. It's got more depth for me than I think for other people. Do you feel like music carries you places, like all of a sudden you're just enveloped into the song? That's how I feel with music; like I'm a part of it.
But I have colors for pain, numbers, letters, words, anything musical, voices, days, months, etc. I also have some taste ones & the personality ones. I have so many I can't even remember them all.
I have all of the ones that you mentioned except for the taste ones, as well as number form and the letter one. I hear other emotions, but anger is just the most prominent. Concepts and things like time or days of the week sometimes have textures as well as colors. I even have some with temperature. And yes I feel very connected to music that I listen to, I normally don't care about genres or anything, so I tend to confuse people with strange playlists. Before youtube made me run out of letters.
synaesthesia is not a mental disorder, it is only a neurological difference. it doesn't hinder me in any way, as a true disorder would, and if anything it's advantageous in numerous ways (such as memory, visualization).
lol, that's so great! :) oh synaesthesia, you make my life so interesting. i have to argue with one thing though, and that's the fact that you used this for a presentation on mental disorders. it's a very common misconception, but synaesthesia is NOT a mental disorder. it's a neurological condition. sry, but most synaesthetes - myself included - are a little sensitive to the whole disorder/disease thing. i've acutally had people ask me if there's a cure. AS IF!!!
LOL! That made me laugh so hard! I loved it, you guys are brilliant. I'm going to have to freak out my friends by reinacting now (not all of them know I have synesthesia, buahaha). Thanks for the laugh!
..i want to hear colors and see music that's more interesting.lol

He said, "ahh...I see...COLORS!" It reminded me of the movie, "The Sixth Sense," where the little boy tells Bruce Willis, "...I see...dead people!"

I do agree - synaesthesia is NOT a mental disorder, just a physiological condition. I think it's pretty amazing.

that's great! so funny!
very clever, but i have to agree with kateri85:
synaesthesia is not a mental disorder, it is only a neurological difference. it doesn't hinder me in any way, as a true disorder would, and if anything it's advantageous in numerous ways (such as memory, visualization).
but A+ aside from that!

Hi there,
i must agree on this one. Its a funny thing to quote the movie. Please make it clear in the video description that synaesthesia is NOT a desease.
Thanks!
