I'm caramel skinned too,I tend to just consider myself dark just so I don't poeple confuse me. I also had real long relaxed hair, but I just recently choped it to a short cut. Now folks are tripping because it is curly and not nappy.
I wish our people would accept that we have all of the colors and textures of hair. It's all good!

Let me ask the poster and any women here - Would you date a guy that's 5' 2"? If you had a choice of identical men, would you choose a guy that was 6 feet tall over the guy that is 5'2" all things being equal? I have personally heard women say "He's cute but he's too short for me to date"! I have heard woman say "I will not date a guy shorter than..." Africans (Berbers, Egyptians, Horners, Nilotic, West Africans, Bantus, Twa, Khosians) are all phenotypically diverse. Features and hair texture very from tribe to tribe. And within each tribe there is skin color variation. Some Sub-Saharan Africans are quite light brown and this has more to do with environmental adaptation/genetic variation than admixture.

Afro hair is amazing 10 times better than it being relaxed because it's stronger. You can wet your natural hair anytime and it don't dry rot like relax hair. Honestly, I do feel a little envious ( a tiny bit) for black people with a lighter skin tone because they seem to have it easier. But I'm not dark at all and sometimes I find dark skin women the more beautiful woman. It's a little frustrating because I'm in the middle and kind of reddish too (native american grandma) but I hear all the time dark skin is better or light is better. Well, were does the leave me? I'm either to light to be with the dark girls or to dark to be with the light.

thank you so much for this video. i grew up down south too (miami) and it was so hard because ur always being judged on ur skin color. you always here a dude call you "aye black" or light-skin girls sayin "yo black-ass". it really is a shame. during my senior year i finally got over it but it is hard especially when everyone around sees your color before they see you. at times i even felt that i was "too" dark. so thank you so much for addressing this issue because no one likes to talk about it.

I'm in the exact same category as you! I consider myself brown skinned, not light, not dark. My complexion can be described as caramel, not that it even matters! I just cannot begin to imagine why there is STILL so much discrimination within the black community... against other black people!! I mean, REALLY?! We are still on this nonsense?!
It is extremely sad! There is beauty in all sizes, shapes and yes COLORS! We really need to do better!

Am I the only one that thinks it's not THAT big of a problem? The only ppl that it is really bad for is the super duper black ppl. They get made fun of relentlessly for no damn reason. Basically I don't think that black ppl keep darker ppl down economically or academically. So it isn't a SERIOUS problem. The media dosent help the case because they always show light women in videos and commercials. If they ever show a darkskinned woman she's always the antagonist or shaking her assets. I'm a darkskinned woman and im always told "you're pretty to be dark" as if my beauty will never equal that of a light woman.

Ne-Yo, Omarion, Yung Burg, and Taio Cruz are just a couple of artist who I have heard make they claim that they don't mess with dark skinned black women. Comedian Kevin Hart said he's tired of broke dark hoes, then retracted his statement. In the black community self hate thrives bad. I'm a dark skinned woman and anytime I was made to feel unworthy about myself it was handed to me by another black person.
