  • thts not self assembly your moving them together =/

  • it's not self-assembly if you are using tweezers to put them together!

  • @mamadi123 : the objective of this video was to demonstrate capillary interactions for self-assembly... note that the tweezers direct the components in the general direction of their wells however, the alignment and attachment occurs automatically.. the interactions are reversible.. think of a vibrating base and a number of micro-components floating in a suitable medium, in principal over time they should align and attach..

  • .....cheerios dont look the same anymore

  • @mathifry hmm if you changed the diameter of the capillaries so that only parts that are meant to correspond would match could you then have this entire thing self assemble?

  • @multiplemes101 : surface free energy contributes to the interaction between the components and is proportional to the total wetted perimeter, controlled by the diameter.. the interfacial free energies, the densities of the liquids and objects, the wetting of the faces (coatings can change contact angle), the size and shape of objects all influence the strength and directionality of the interactions between the objects.. for further reading look up papers by george whitesides..

  • look up cheerios effect

  • Surface tension???
